With the linked accounts, you now update all of the imported posts and threads from the old forums to the new PWE accounts. Ok after a suitable period of time to allow a number of users to link their old Cryptic Account to a PWE account.
When are the all of the old posts going to be updated to point to the new PWE account for the poster?
I am aghast at this whole CF...
I cannot remember when I have seen anything so completely ganked.
This is surreal. I keep wondering when I'm going to wake up.

I've lived through this exact sort of thing before, and it could be much worse. Second Life (as an example) at one point transitioned their site from vBulletin (I think) to some custom product made by some specialist company in customer support. The result, was that the entire old forum, and every single post, had to be spun off somehow into a huge searchable database, that was completely disconnected from anything that went forward.
The new forum started with 0 posts, and a whole new set of threads and forums had to be created. Everyone's postcount, signature, join date, avatar, all of it was gone, and we had to start over.
While the anonymizing of old posts is truly bizarre, I can't see how they had any alternative since technically, they're using a completely new player database that's being added to by each person who links their STO character to a PWE account. If they kept all the old usernames attached to posts, NONE OF US could have gotten our old names back. It sure would have been nice though if they'd found a way to at least post the name of each original poster, in the body of each post.
At least those old posts are still searchable within the existing forum setup, and those threads are even still viable for posting and continuing if needed. I'm honestly a bit surprised that all old threads weren't locked.

Unfortunately, no. The old posts will always have "Archived Post" as the author. We thought we had a solution to be able to at least show the name of who authored the post (Ex. PWE_BranFlakes (Archived Post), but it posed a security concern (it was showing login names and not displaynames). Even if that did come over and worked with display names, there would still have not been a way to edit your old posts. I am truly sorry.
You guys should have used Invision Power Board, far far better than this junk. I also dislike that I now have to have a number after my display name because I apparently already have taken my username or something. All in all, just annoying.

Well, why weren't we told the forums were going to be completely changed, so we could have time to copy our posts, or gather the links to our subscribed threads? Do the old forum accounts even exist anymore, with that data?
Also, even having the old names displayed without a way to edit would have been better than this mess. And what are people new to the forum going to think of the older posts?

i think we were lucky enough to get what we got. Seems like they had a lot of issues with the import to the new site.
I;m being polite here.
