hi all, i need mid to experienced users with the foundry to help give me their 2 cents on my 1st foundry mision idea.
i need to know if what i want to do is vesable in any way, notes on everything, and what not. here it is as follows:
i want this to be a joint (endgame) rescue operation to save someone from the clutches of almost every speicies in the galaxie so as not to start an interstealler warthat could decimate all. that someone is closley linked to my character. i want him to acompany the player(s) through out the mission. i want this to be able to play w/ or w/o a fleet. i am thinking about having a small 3-5 ship taskforce serch for the person. i want it to span at leaset 1 sequal.
focusd around rescuing an unknown VIP. it turnes out that the VIP is (SPOILER CENCOR).
this person went missing scence the borg attack at the beginiong of the game. wearabouts unknown till now.
want to have ground and space combat.
thats all i can think of for now, modifications are subject to change.
P.S. i didnt want to give away spoilers so as not to ruin mission if i can do this.
Good luck. It is certainly possible, though the story might be a bit convoluted. This mission is yours to tell as you see fit. I wish you success in your endeavour. God speed! (from whichevery deity you believe in, if any)
Just remember that the EULA for the foundry says its a no no to use canonical characters and their likenesses for missions, depending on who you want for your VIP
First improve your spelling and grammar. There are tons of grammar nazies (some with **** poor grammar) in this game who rate based on the number of errors.

That's grammar TRIBBLE, thank you very much.
(Although I really don't like the association between applying solid spelling and grammar skills with those evil beings and their twisted ideologies. Welcome to the world of idioms and memes... although I'd say "Grammar Police" works just fine. )
The EULA forbids actor likenesses but this also applies to canonical ships as well. Such as the defiant and the various Enterprises (including the latest Ent-F).
But I suppose that technically wouldn't apply to a Joined Trill character as the likenesses and personality changes with each iteration.
I think as a general rule of thumb you're better off just making up your own completely new characters. Then there's absolutely no chance of a EULA violation.
I find that I hav eno foundry slots. It says I can get them from the cstore but I can find them. Where are they?
I'm a silver member, I know I need 10,000 rd per slot.
In the character screen, there's a "Create Content" tab. Click it, and you'll see a button in the lower half of the screen that says "Buy Foundry Project Slots" (something like that).
And it's 10,000 for a starter set of four slots.
ive only loged on to holodeck and ive hit the create content buttonn but whebn i do, the kilgon and fed buttons blak out.
i kno i need to create a character to test play, but i cant if the buttons are blacked out. do i have to have 2 playable characters to unlock the foundry or can i just have my 1.
can someone please help me fiqure out how to get to creating a character for the foundry? i dont have enoughp rd yet, but in a 1-4 days i might. ill check tonight.

There is the mission of "Will and a Barclay" where she has you on a holodeck and says the images are messed up. But claims they are Captain Picard and his crew all in the form of her. This was very funny, but I am certain if someone wanted to make a federal case out of it, they could.
I am sure there is a grey area on this rule, but this rule is in place to keep Cryptic out of court with anyone like CBS or Paramount who could sue them. Since this is supposed to be 30 years after the last movie, all the characters would be dead or dying anyway. So personally I prefer to make up characters in the costuming.
Of course I don't think anything stops you from using likenesses (it's pretty hard to make one anyway) of any non-Trek actors to 'play' the role so to speak.
You may not use New Game Materials to infringe on the rights of privacy and publicity of third parties.
I would interpret this as prohibiting you from using anyone's likeness without their permission.
ST, that mission you're referencing is actually fine according to the EULA. As long as you do not use the likenesses of the actors, you can use the characters. I.E. you can have Barcley in your mission, but he can't look like Dwight Shultz.

It has been my experience, they are all fine with the EULA, until a lawyer gets involved. LoL Then nothing else matters except getting that bullet proof butt shield on tight.
Seriously though, I don't think you can make up a character who "looks like" a real living person in this game. Costuming is top notch for this MMO but still very limited.
For example, I just played a Farscape mission today, it was well done for a rough, but his characters will never look even 80% like the crew of Farscape. It would be a shame to run rough-shod on all the missions like that one. He is just trying to be creative with the tools at hand.
My position is, do what you can until someone yells foul. None of my missions will ever need the likeness of Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. But then again, it would be hard to prove who they are unless I blatantly called them by name. If I was in Cryptic's shoes, I would be more worried about the possible content or theme of a mission more over than who the characters may or may not look like.
Meanwhile have fun, it is a game. Stop jumping on the furniture!!
You can't use any actor likehood, but iirc, there was a Q&A thread about this rule. It was stated that you could use the characters names, but the names only. Not the actor's face.

I didn't want to go to far, like how far can I go on a specific race but it not be anything that's actually canonical.
Plus also I wanted to include the enterprise-f into my bio bio I don't think I can du to time difference.
I also wanto to see if I can tie in some other foundry missions I've done in a small way.
If anyone knows the exact date when it was launched would be grand.
What is the E.U.L.A?

Think legal document which must be agreed upon to use the Foundry.
The E.U.L.A. is available within the Foundry itself. You'll see a button for it, right after logging into the Foundry interface.
in case anyones wondering, no, i personally havent read them yet so i dont know.

Personally, I prefer to work in bounds so I don't have any headaches down the road.
God, lvl 60 CW. 17k.
