Character Profiles

hi, i have a question on the character profiels. are we ever going to see them being fixed?

mine shows all info EXCEPT the bio ( which im still working on so its a null and void thing) and the captins log which im not shure where you do that. plus my list of boffs are going off into the alienware logo and his (character) rank is wrong. why didnt they make it a scroll thing when it gets that long?

also, when i click to see other peopls stovatars, it takes me to mine and says it couldt find the person. they need an entire area for this thing on the main page. i am in the proccess of making an entire website for these reasons. it may become a fleet website by the time i get it to some decent fourm of working order but as of 5-24-2012, this is my main goal.

if anyone has any info of the profiles on when they will be "fixed" for good, please let me know. admiral out!!!!!

I recently contacted the webteam, for permission to create a module for drupal to fetch the data.

Private correspondence is not something that I can post, but the response indicates that the char profiles on the webpage have been discontinued.

It really is a shame that the character profiles are being discontinued, since there's so much potential for them to be implemented as a community building and game-oriented social networking tool. Having an active and vibrant character database, with enhanced features such as the ability to friend someone from said profile, would not only facilitate the forging of in-game friendships, but might be a boon for Fleet recruiters as well. Not to mention it being a wonderful resource for all those in-game RP folk. Hell, it would be delightfully amusing to simply read other player's log and supplemental entries. Getting rid of these profiles would be a sad waste of a fun and simple community building tool.

i know, the devs could have taken the profiles to new hights and make them into so much. they could have fleet profiles and have statuses for people and fleets like "married", "divorced", "single", recurting, fleet is full, etc. respect***lly.

they could have worked with the fleets and help to create a space for each persons profile and it would take you the fleet's webpage( if they have one) that the person is with.

i have created a site where people could share their sto-vatars, ships, vids, pics and whatnot with others. but unfortunatly, its under construction and their are complications hindering me from finishing it and form it becoming what i wanted.

I need to emphasize that it was not the direct message... Just indicated.

Since I am not on the webteam, obviously I can't say for sure.

I just started doing a manual one.

Yes, it needs a lot of work. It started out as a way to figure out which Assignment Chains I was still missing and developed from there.

Well, hopefully the implications of your prior communications have been misinterpreted Anazonda. It just seems baffling to me that the devs would squander such a simple and useful tool for enhancing a sense of community within this game; especially with all the upcoming focus on Fleet activity enhancements, like Fleet Starbases and such.

If this feature isn't fixed or worse, if it's nixed altogether, then I can't help wondering why I should even bother writing up log entries, if no one, other than myself, shall ever be able to read them. Seems as though there's a dim hope that character profiles may be restored to proper functionality, as the profiles (whilst faulty) are currently still accessible in a round about sorta way.

we just spitballin ideas and speaking our minds. although i do agree that sto sould be more social out of game and the profiles could be step 1 in the social end game. most of the social goes on in-game. we only have the fourms outside.

the profiles could be a stepingstone to a sto social networking site specifically for sto players. now that could be something major to people who are like me. their starting to spend = time on the fourms and the game as well as to people who do role playing and other stuff like that. everyone oculd communicate better and it could lead to more people to play/ like it better.

maby if they could somehow be able to have in-out game talk between the game and the site. with enough overall effort, it could become someting that rivels,=, or surpasses facebook one day. now that would be an accomplishment for the ages.

I concur wholeheartedly with your sentiments Train41. Though, I suspect there's a snowball's chance in hell of an STO social networking site ever rivaling the likes of Facebook.

Yet, your comparison to Facebook did give me an idea that could provide incentive for the devs to develop an STO social networking community. Advertising revenue. Pure and simple, Cryptic and PW could make money off of sponsoring ads on such a website. Sure, ads are a nuisance, but a mild one and one that I would gladly tolerate if it afforded the opportunity for STO players to connect with each other and more readily share their in-game experiences.

i know, the dev site i used has the option to add google ade sense to the website and if google deams the site meets their criteria, after x time, you will recieve $$$. i tried this w/ my site but it was rejected due to it not having sufficiant amount of info for the "correct ads" to appear.
