Also, Devs =/= perfect world. PWE are evil asian overlords, Devs are a lot more.........locally based?
We should refer to PWE as Mr Crabs, Always trying to make money, and not always doing well
That is too harch! Just need them to think twice before changing stuff. Give it a test-run and get peoples feedback before you launch. That way, a lot of headace would be spared.
Not to mention the lost income just over the past few hours...
I honestly think most of the complaints people are making come less from things that aren't working, and more from people who do not want change. Sure I admit that the forum changes are a little disconcerting, but same could be said to a change to youtube, or facebook. People always complained at first, then got used to it and stopped complaining.
People on the internet hate change. They flip out at the even the smallest change on their favorite website (I think the reaction people had to SOPA embodied this more than anything else). Sure, some complaints ARE valid, but these are the kinds of things that are usually fixed in a few days. Right now, I am seeing very few complaints that are actually something to complain about on the forums.
Seriously people are overreacting to the forum change. Nothing that is guaranteed to ruin your experience has actually happened. Sure, your avatars have been changed, but that is small potatoes. Eventually you will get used to it or the devs will make changes so that it is more like what it was before the change (hopefully the latter). And if you feel that it IS such a big change that makes you want to stop playing STO and other Cryptic/PWE games, then maybe you should stop playing all MMOs altogether and reevaluate what is actually important people. Seriously, this is a forum for a video game. Get over yourselves.
Nothing that is guaranteed to ruin your experience has actually happened.
I don't mean to jump down your throat here, but we've actually lost a lot of functionality. A small example is the quick forum directory button /menu we used to have at the end of a thread - now we need to scroll back to the top to get back to the forums, or back click our way home.
Not to mention no longer having an option to set the forum to our local timezone.

Change can be good or bad, depending upon one's point of view. Many of the changes to websites are designed to benefit the host rather than the customer. Hotmail is a good example. It was a simple e-mail system and became increasingly bloated once Microsoft took it over. That was change that wasn't so great for the user experience, unless one likes to be forced to go to MSN when logging out, load multiple pages before getting to the inbox, et cetera.
With most website evolution, the result is increasing complexity and increased ad exposure. But, it is true that some overreact to things that are new and not objectively (for them) worse.

Actually, some of the changes are terrable. One of the main things you have to do with an online community is nurture it. There are alot of things that are done to play with the users psychology. these include join dates & post counts, which are used to give teh user a sence of ownership, they are also used to set up a social status as well. These things are important because they are what actually keeps your forum users returning at a sub-consious level. For them to remove the original join dates, remove the post counts and detach our old user names from our old posts, they have effectivly deleted the old forums. This isn't about changes (I'm fine with that), this is about an extremely poor and badly thought out forum merger.
Maybe I am over-reacting, but after 4 years of been on these forums, to see my old stickies have my name removed and to have my join date reset (and my post count) makes me feel like the last 4 years have just been deleted in a foul swoop with no actual reason for it. Also, there are huge ammounts of styling issues with the new layout, it makes me feel ashamed as a web designer for the people that pushed though this new skin.

For some time now I have imagined PWE's content release policy like that:
-" Sir the devs have just completed changes on the new feature X"
-" Good. Release ALL the features" (reference to the ALL meme)
- "But shouldn't we test this first?"
- "Nah.. just give them some buttons to click."
Same with the forum, same with the ships, same with the balance changes.

No advanced notice.
No customer relations on hand to discuss or explain the changes.
Drastically reduced functionality compared to the old forums.
Forcing people to use a different name because someone else's PWE account from some other game has already taken the one you had on the Cryptic forums.
And finally, MASSIVE bugs in the implementation; anyone who created a PWE account as a result of this switchover can't buy Zen, can't use the "earn Zen" option, can't change Zen into CPoints, and can't get any assistance because the Cryptic devs sodded off home last night and the PWE ticket system is borked to the point that it won't even load the page for many people. On top of that, UK players get the shaft when they finally are able to buy Zen since we're now forced to use Euros(which we have to add 20% extra to for Value Added Tax) instead of Cryptic's system that let us pay in Pounds Sterling(no extra charges), meaning we pay more than we used to.
But yeah, totally, we're just annoyed because we're crusty old internet grognards who hate change

I hear you. I really do. But you got to admit that when people are on the forums instead of buying C-points (wich keeps the game afloat) and where led here while trying to do so, something is very wrong. Ofcourse it?s a matter of "it was better before" and "I don?t like the change" but this is more than that for some of us today. The lost functions, being unable to buy stuff or just understand basic things is a very bad thing. And We all know that change and bad responses in conjunction with buggs go hand in hand. We?re just voicing our oppinions that any other Trekker would do. We are the game, and we have to be able to change it into our likes to a certain degree. This is (for many people) a bad change. But I really understand what you are meaning.

Never ascribe to malice that which can adequately be explained by ignorance. I'll give PWE the benefit of the doubt here, and guess that they weren't aware that not all EU countries are on the Euro.
A lot of the forum feels very broken: non-matching buttons, pure white text-entry fields and tooltips, on a pure black backgrounded site, the whole "dev posts" thing seems to be broken, etc etc. Given how long the site was down yesterday, I'm going to once again give cryptic/PWE the benefit of the doubt by assuming that something went wrong in the installation, and after an incredibly long day of work yesterday, the www-team finally managed to get the site at least functional, and went home for a mediocre burger from a drive-thru, and few hours sleep.
I think some of this stuff will be fixed. I'm sure their hands are less tied in terms of forum settings now, so we may see the bbcode-in-signatures thing turned on, or possibly other things activated as the next few days progress. Honestly those sorts of things are just perks tho, and getting functions like mail and buying zen working properly are much higher priorities, I'm sure.
As for our lost identities, changed names, postcounts, join dates, etc.. I'm sadly not expecting those to be fixable. They might be able to do something about the displaynames, but we'll probably have to wait for a PWE-side tool for requesting a display name change.
I'm also hopeful that we'll see the ability to upload custom avatars turned on as well, but sometimes forums can be stingy with their image hosting.

The Euro has been worth jack-TRIBBLE for how long now? If they're going to be an international company they should know the international market!
