Crew Quarters tab.

Hello...

So I was talking to a displeased player in the TTS channel, and this player was displeased because they had a full roster (100) of DOffs all of which the player wanted to keep, while also wanting to rank up his / her recruitment commendation XP.

So after trying to help I got to the route of the matter, which I'm pretty sure was that when completing the recruitment assignments that reward the player with more DOffs, the player could not turn in those assignments because his/ her roster was full.

So to compensate for this bug / annoyance / inconvenience I propose the following...

Create a new tab within the Duty Officer UI called Crew Quarters.

This new tab will simply house a limited number of DOffs, but prevent the player from assigning any DOffs in this tab to any assignment. This tab is primarily for allowing players to receive and house DOffs when their roster is full so players must not be allowed the ability to swap out DOffs from this tab to the Roster tab for other DOffs, because this would basically allow players to use the new tab as a auxiliary roster, which in canon it would be but in game, that breaks things. So this tab just needs to allow players to receive DOffs as rewards, how will this tab continue to work as intended if it becomes full? Well how about the implementation of Doff death and by that I don't mean you lock them in their Crew Quarters until they die, but I do mean that if the player doesn't make room in their roster within a certain amount of time, then the crew member will leave the ship to find a new position elsewhere.

Technically speaking the DOffs items could be on a new assignment in this tab, when the assignment time is up they leave the ship, and if the assignment is cancelled and there's room in the roster then the DOff moves to the roster.

Perhaps Crew Quarters isn't the best name for the tab, but I hope you find this proposal worth your time and if anyone wishes to contribute their ideas please feel free.

Thank you!

ye thats it Alecto u nailed it

i would just make a small note

instead of the doffs to die, once they would go into this extra tab u could decide to assign them or not into roster,if u didnt, they would be discarded.

    Best Regards

What about making them associated with the ship itself. You then would have the option of taking them with you to crew a new/other ship or leaving them behind and starting a new compliment of personnel. Might make more sense for the duty officers, but could be applied to them all.

Hoping to get a little feedback on this from the one and only Heretic! :)

Some questions below that anyone can feel free to answers...
    1. Was this typed up clearly enough to understand the objective of the proposal?

    2. Is this an idea that you personally think will be useful to players as well as resolve the "issue" at hand?

    3. Has this thread been read, marked for internal consideration / discussion? If yes then I'll just leave the thread be...

This type of approach has been brought up before by players, and while I do understand the desire for it, it seems a lot of gymnastics when you could also solve the issue already simply by maintaining an effective roster of 90 and using the remaining 10 as a buffer.

now we can just buy more
i think 200 is a good number for a big ship
lets you keep 5 of every type
BUT i have a KDF BoP that i only keep 30
    (the listed crew size)
now THATS hard as there like 40 kinds of doffs

Crew Reserves perhaps would be a better name. I mean they on notice that they could be transferred to the USS/IKS Whatever and...

Ever since DOffs went live I've always thought it might make good sense to have the number of DOffs available directly related to the crew compliment stat of whichever ship you're flying. It's be a pain to program, but it could really add a lot more depth to the game. As a side note, I'd also like to see DOffs gain experience when they complete assignments. Just pie in the sky daydreaming though, I know it's asking too much.

I had the same idea, only problem I could see is that for players that likes to switch ships alot (now since the ship specific skills are gone) it would cause a problem going from a Galaxy to a Defiant.

    really?

what dont u understand in " i got full roster and dont want to discard any assigned doff to replace it from a crappy one that is awarded on the doffs recruitment assigments" ?

it seems that you just dont even want to try it.

is very simple, full roster, turn in the assigment, get XP but dont take the doffs if i dont want to.....
as it is,im FORCED to take the doffs in order to turn in the assigment.

I take Heretic's point but frankly that seems to me more like a workaround for players than an effective solution.

The idea that someone can have a full crew of people he largely likes but is still on the lookout for someone better in a particular field or two seems to be perfectly reasonable.

What I would ask for is the ability to review the candidates, and turn in the assignment, but not necessarily accept them. In all probability this would make all of us a bit more savvy having to decide which ones to keep on recrtment is much easier than sorting through that massive and somewhat MAD list once you hit 50 or more...

Ewww... no thank you. It would be fine for Cruiser captains with a complement of 1000 and Science vessels would work out ok with 300+ but it would really, really suck for Escort Captains who have a complement in the 50-200 range. If you're going to buff Cruiser and Science Vessel Captains by giving them a large roster, what do Escorts get in exchange, especially those who are having their roster sized halved?

You probably really don't need all those 100. Unless you just like to keep that one guy around because "I might find just one mission where I really need that white-quality extra laying around!"

I went about clipping out a bunch of DOFFs and even running around 60-70, I still have like 30-40 sitting around doing nothing all the time anyway.

On Tribble (where you can't expand your roster space), I use 93 duffs, and 7 as a buffer. Worx purrfectly for me.
