Alternate solution to official Mission drought

Obviously with all the effort going into the upcoming F2P re-launch, work on new official missions has been bumped down the priority list by the powers that be. It's something that just can't be helped given the current state and size of the development team.

Something that could ease the pressure, and bring a lot of new official missions into the game quickly, would be to convert many existing top rated Foundry missions into official content complete with offical rewards.

The work is already done. Most of them have had massive 'playtesting' already. All that would be required is to smooth out any rough edges and fit them into the official Cryptic storyline. This would be a far cry, and a lot less effort, from having to develop new missions from scratch.

Most Foundry authors I think would be thrilled to have their missions chosen to be included as official content, though there might be a few who would turn down the offer. Still, with literally hunderds of missions already written, even just converting a dozen of the best to begin with would be a welcome and much needed shot in the arm to STO.

The beauty of this system is that Cryptic could continue to make great Foundry missions into official content on an on-going basis supplementing and augmenting Mission creation from the dev team. Seems like a win-win scenario for everyone. We get to see maybe 12-20 new missions added wih every update, instead of the 4 (or none) that we see now, and Cryptic gets to boast (sell) the fact that many new missions are added with each update. :)

Love this proposal, every time it comes up, they really ought to do it, saves them time and money, gives us more missions. Win-win. Heck if it's to much trouble to all the way with making them real missions (Don't know why, there would be, except for possibly CBS complaining) they could have a contest where players design more maps/missions to add to the list of missions we can see in exploration clusters.

    meh....

the foundry missions are already inside the game, so they would not be *new* to begin with...

but yeah Cryptic should bring the "Spotlight Missions" back and on a more regular basis.

adding rewards would mean that the author would loose editing rights to the Mission
Cryptic would have to take care of the mission to stay playable and update it
i am sure many authors would not want to loose the option to keep their missions in working condition or update them with the latest shiny functionality.

    that probably won't happen.

...also if they get turned into official missions they need to be signed by CBS
