The future I see with Tric Spread and HY Trics is a dark one... one where we are once again FAWing up the screen to keep all the shield stripping science tricobalt boats from actually causing any damage. They can still be shot down, right? These are probably the most easily countered OP abilities they have thrown at us recently. Then you add in the friendly fire, and all of a sudden, tricobalts in any form are just obsolete. They are too slow to use from a distance and pack too much punch to use up close (once FF is live). Overall, I'd have to say I'm not too worried about it... even with the broken CritD calculations of Torp Spread. Monotanium anyone?

Tricobalts would have to get a speed to target increase if friendly fire is put into effect. Even if FF is not put into effect, Tricobalts need a speed boost (they've needed on for a while , imo)

If they are given a respectable speed increase to make them less the tortoise and more the hare, that allows them to (with practice) be shot from outside the FF AoE zone under the proposed changes, (TS/HY).

If they are given a slightly shorter CD/GCD they can be returned to active status quicker for refire and hopefully if BFaw shot down the first volley then a faster fire rate can overcome that combined with good tactics to see the second volley strike home.

How big is the AoE of a tricobalt/plasma explosion gonna be? If its only 1-2 km, then I do not see the issue.

Agreed, give them a speed increase and they are more viable, but due to the destructable nature of the torpedoes themselves, they are still much more easily countered and defensible than say, anitmatter spread or Torp Spread 3 with quantums.

    Last night... I gave in...

Some sad pandas and I were doinking around and trying out this "pvp" thing because it's new to us. We met very hearty, stout, brawny lads who sported the awesome powers of scramble 3 and cruiser scramsole. So then, I decided... hey! I can haz scramlol 3 too!

I... can still hear the cries of younglings in my head master! I went in and scrambled their brains out all match long... :(

That's just doing it better, not really countering it :) Honestly, I've given up on trying to be an "upstanding" pvp citizen and I will use whatever Cryptic throws at us (as long as it fits my playstyle, I won't just load up on cheese) when it is appropriate. Basically, if you bring a carrier, I will use FAW and Torp Spread. Why? Because I'm tired of spam, and also tired of living with it because the best counters are "OP" or "Broken" Scramble is borked, but I use it now, sometimes. Why? Because confuses are an essential part of PvP, IMO. Especially PvP with huge buffed/unbuffed disparities. Sometimes you just gotta take the heat off, even if just for a second or two.

I've recently been calling for PvP players to take the shackles off, use it, counter it, defend against it, Mostly, though, adapt. I steadfastly refused to use broken/OP powers for months and months, frequently leaving me defenseless against those that stink like moldy cheese from a half parsec away, and I'm tired of it. It is far easier than being angry with cryptic all the time and will lead to fewer grey hairs on your scalp and slow down their retreat from your foreheads I'm not gonna abuse it, stack it, or chain it, but I will use it.

True, they could still be shot down as a side thought by BFaw but I am hoping a faster speed would give "the little Tric that could" a better chance at 3-4 km then having to be at 1-2km.

maybe a hitpoint buff for them as well?

Otherwise its drop them (never to see them again) and go Quantum HY (or TS to fight fire with fire in the pugs)

I can't fault anyone who feels the need to fight fire with fire. I just hope that the decent players will continue to be decent and not incite the type of broken power abuse we've been seeing. We don't need to work any harder to ruin PvP than the Developers seem to be when they release this stuff.

My point exactly, the cheese and its abusers are here to stay, adapt or die. We don't have to abuse it, but unswerving dedication to not using them, even when it makes sense to use in their intended fashion is not an option for me any longer. We'll never talk everybody out of it, there will always be the "win at all costs" players. That said, I think that a coordinated team using these powers in a timely fashion can be effective against a team spamming/chaining/exploiting the same powers. It's adapting, and that's always canon :)

I hope nobody expects the cheese to get any better when thousands of new players log in to the game for the first time at F2P launch. They haven't been here for a year or more arguing about and analyzing game mechanics, like us Vets. They will use what helps them win, and they won't have any preconceived notions about ethical STO PvP.

And think about it, wouldn't you love to scramble a few certain teams just as they fire off 4 gravity wells at once?

All Federation Cheese is Government Cheese, for that matter so is Klingon and Romulan (all three are various forms of socialist economies).

Lactose intolerance is recognized by the VA as a disability. It's so common among soldiers who have been deployed, that you don't even need documentation to claim it if you've been deployed. Deployed soldiers get a lot of shelf-stable milk, and even if they don't drink milk they get it as an ingredient in their meals, but shelf-stable milk kills off the bacteria in your intestines that you need to digest milk.

Unpasteurized milk can help prevent lactose intolerance, since it includes the same bacteria you need to digest it. Those bacteria slowly die off when they do their job, so adults who spent a lifetime drinking pasteurized milk eventually lose the ability to digest it. The bacteria are supposed to be gradually replaced, but that can't happen since there is no bacteria in government-approved milk.

The ironic part is that large numbers of adults can't eat government cheese because the government gave them lactose intolerance. About a hundred years ago there were lots of diseases transmitted through milk, and two approaches were found to be equally effective in ensuring milks was safe. One approach was to make sure milk was only collected from healthy cows, and was kept in sterile conditions from bucket to bottle. The other approach was to heat the milk to destroy any micro-organisms in it. Both were equally effective, but pasteurization didn't require milk to actually be clean or cows to be healthy or well-nourished, so it was a lot cheaper.

But now in the modern age, we apply health and cleanliness standards to dairy farms, but still burn the beneficial bacteria out of milk. The government actually gets in the way of people attempting to buy raw milk for health reasons, so the government dooms people to eventual lactose intolerance.

Yet they still have their government cheese.

I wonder if I can get the VA to pay for my yoghurt? The live cultures in yoghurt help with digesting lactose, so eating a couple of cups a day helps to deal with cheese. STO really needs a bit of yoghurt, to help keep the cheese from causing cramps.

Of course, now that cows are loaded with growth hormones, lactose intolerance may be a good thing.
