It was a dark and stormy night (well, kind of, it's always dark in space...)
Captain Kerngan and his crew are sleeping soundly, with the IKS Ridorrin parked in some backwater planet full of goombas.
Suddenly, they heard the sound of the ship's klaxxon, indicating red alert status! Federation ships are in the vicinity! What's more, they fired some sort of virus into the Ridorrin's computer, locking out all bridge officers from controlling the ship!
WIth the crew and captain helpless, they awaited their fate, because staring them in the face was a Federation fleet with no less than TWO state of the art battleships!
The crew managed to restore some sort of control to the ship, having use of thruster and impulse engines plus limited weapons capabilities. They could not balance their ship's shields nor could they send out hazard or engineering teams to damaged portions of the ship, as emergency force fields were suddenly put in place due to the Feddie virus.
Oh well, it is a good day to die, afterall! Boldly, the Ridorrin -just a humble science vessel with less firepower and hull armor than any ship she's facing- charged into battle!

And this is exactly the point. There IS no bar of competence required for normal difficulty. Only that you autofire, that's it. Anything more like actual usage of skills and one gets labeled elitist.
And the only thing that's upped in adv and elite is HP and damage. On elite one's required to actually balance their shields, and maybe use 2-4 abilities to save their skin.
Cryptic's bar of pve is set so low that one does not have to actually play the game in order to advance in it. This is the definition of casual as it is now, so casual you can literally get up off your computer and allow it to play for you. 1-51, the playstyle is the same.
EDIT: I would add that the only elite difficulty that continually challenges someone is through PvP.
And yes everybody who thinks that advanced or elite requires some skill ..........
