...Seriously, it is. The old and better animation is still in the game though, but only if you're holding a weapon and running. Please consider reverting it back to what it was.
If I had to guess, I'd probably say that new combat system required changes to the way the the animations handle things like upper body blending. This might have forced them to make new jumps and walks to avoid spine twisting or some other technical issue. So while they're now less than ideal, they might have found themselves painted into a corner and forced to compromise. Stuff like that happens when you're working with systems as complicated as these.
