Hmm interesting indeed. For a F2P those graphics aren't too bad haha.

    Oh and first!

What's the point of "first"ing HERE of all places?

    That does look pretty good.

Man Grand Nagus. It looks like STO's biggest competition might not be TOR, but a F2P in browser flash-based Star Trek game.

If it turns out to be better than STO I'm going to be laughing my head off about that for years.

both of those thoughts crossed my mind the second I saw it.

Wow, for browser based, that looks pretty sweet. Of course, if the gameplay sucks, it won't matter how pretty the ships are. Hope it doesn't suck.

I highly doubt it will "suck". Granted, it might not be quite as fun as some other games, but then again it IS free. That being the case, I plan to give it a go. Its not like it will cost me anything :o

True. I followed the link on the facebook page to see the 3-d models - but every pic is labeled as concept art. Hmmmm.

You can see what the models will look like, using the 3D plugin, at the official site:
The meshes are lower-res than the screenshots indicate but they do a nice job bump-mapping the textures.

Bird of Prey actually looks very similar to the one in-game.

Not a fan of the halo around the ships but it's remarkably well-done for a browser game.

The thing about it is even though their not a high poly as ours, when your are zoomed out to the normal distance most people are in combat it will look about the same.

Potentially - we still haven't seen gameplay footage. These could be higher-res, non-combat versions for promotional use.

I wish them the best but I'd also like to know what the gameplay is like.

    ST:IS looks REALLY good.

Cryptic better beware. Mind you, they've got about a year to really improve STO...:p

Hmm, even if it is really good, its hard to imagine a browser based F2P game displacing STO. There are already too many things STO does well that would be hard to pull off in the constraints of a browser based game I would think.

Yeah i don't think so, i think people that have the job of improving a game for their primary source of income are generally going to do better work then someone who is donating their time.

I would have to disagree. People are generally more passionate about their hobby which they are doing because they want to than their job which they are doing because they have to.

passion is all good, but when you need to work for a living you arent going to have all the time in the world to work on a game you aren't going to profit off of.

The Camarilla is a fantastic counter-point to that. You don't need all the time in the world.

Before we go any further, what are you talking about? If you mean the people making Infinite Space, they ARE going to profit from it.

I look forward to trying this. Supposedly it's in closed Beta. I wonder if there's any leaks. :P

Hillarious how people rave about a game they know nothing about. :p

All we know is the setting, and a couple of sample models.
We have absolutely NO IDEA of what ANY of the actual gameplay is going to be like.

Yeah, somehow we got from "nice models...." to something with only concept art stills up on the website as being a possible STO breaker. The models do look nice...but if all they do is hop from square to square on my browser, I'm not going to be too impressed. :D

    QFT.

I'd prefer to see gameplay footage - not prerendered cinematics and high-res, standalone models.
