I teach small children for a living, one of the advantages of this job is the fact that my classroom is full of lego bricks and I have to admit, I have been distracted from marking many times by the urge to build things. Even as a 24 year old man I find the things irresistible, which begs the question,

If you could go back and play with a single toy from your childhood, what would it be?

The U.S.S. FLAG from G.I. Joe......a 6' long toy aircraft carrier. Might have been my best x-mas from childhood.

I am looking forward for my 1.5yr and 2.5yr old boys to grow up for Lego :D

Make sure to get them the 6,000 piece Taj Majal, and the 1,408 piece Star Wars Blockade Runner. (Also might be under the iconic ship's name "Tantive IV")

That last one is really fun to build, although me and another big lego fan, we build our own custom stuff for fleet battles out of the sets, so I didn't bother on the battle damage details on the Blockade Runner, saved me about 100-250 pieces worth of time with all the little detail pieces.

For now, get them one of the Lego: City sets. They were really fun to build. I remember my first one: A cargo plane!

    -mancrush- :o
My Jetfire was broken and my brother glued it in place. :( It was awesome back when it moved though.

So my favorite toy was probably... um..... ..... hmmm.... this is tough. I guess the Aerial Attack E-Frame from ExoSquad. I saw the first commercial for those E-Frames and had to buy all of the ones I could find. :D

Mostly I had hand-me-downs from my brother and garage sales, I didn't buy too many new.

    Runners up:
    X-Wing
    The Lego Allied Avenger
Various Battletech toys, like this one.
    Runabout
    Apeface
    Waspinator

I was like 7 when my family got one. I am one of the younger people on this forum. Not even old enough to drink yet.

I had a toy that I called a wuzzle. A quick google search indicates that it was likely not really called that. it was a purple ball of fur with a teal beak, and teal lizzard claws. and a scaly teal tail. It was my favorite toy ever, and i know I brought it with me when I moved, but for the life of me I cannot find the poor thing.

Also my teddy bear that I've had since my first Christmas.

My TRS-80 Model 4P my aunt gave me back in the early 90's, with all the old BASIC games such as STARTREK, Lunar Lander and ADVENTURE.
Or my all pewter/some kinda cast metal Galaxy Class with separating saucer section.

I want both of those back. :(

Bah, no skimping! Get the 1700+ piece one Blockade Runner. Though that one is a bit more of a display model than a toy, hehe. And then get the big Star Destroyer to chase it around

The big AT-AT is cool too.

But yeah, for me, Lego would be it. The fact that you can build so many things with it makes it timeless.

Second to that and not really a toy would be Dr. Seuss books. They are fun to read to kids.

    Lego.

Although, saying that, I lived a (fairly) isolated childhood; basically, it was any toy I could use on my own. In fact, I still tinker with Lego to this day.

    <AFOL in disguise.

And while we're on the subject of lego....link

The US is screwed up like that. At 18 you can:
    • strip
    • get married
    • go to war
    • smoke
    • vote
    • drive (actually that starts at 16)
I'd rather people be allowed to drink much younger. Then when they're in college, they won't overdo it like so many tend to do. I was antisocial enough that it was never a problem for me, but I knew a couple people who ruined years of their lives with it.

My favorite toys were Legos, GI JOE and Transformers.

However there is also a special place in my heart for my sister's barbie dolls and fire.........

They still have not forgiven me for destroying their dolls......:D

In some places, it's getting to the point where you have to be 18 to drive without supervision - Virginia and DC are at least two places (last I checked).

    I would have to agree.

After Hasbro decided to reduce costs and go all plastic....they are full of suck.

Classic Transformers with die-cast and good solid plastic (except in some places...like Optimus's stacks, and Megatron's shoulder joints) is way better then the inferior TRIBBLE they have now. These things fall apart if you look at them hard.... :/

I never got into the Transformers craze until Beast Wars was into its second season. For me, the toys started to go downhill around Armada, when they sacrificed articulation (a big advantage of the Beast series and RiD toys) for gimmicks like "Minicons" and "Cyberkeys."

My first ever toy I can remember ended up being my favorite and spurring on a lifelong hobby.

Was an American G-Scale Santa Fe steam engine set that had like 6 cars with it. All my action-figures growing up rode that thing at least once and the cat's tail was run-over a few times. Oh, and the rug set aflame by Ol' Sparky when I was 13. That loco started throwing sparks like a welder from over use.

I too enjoyed my legos. I had this one moon rover that came with a bunch of stuff for it, eventually I managed to make like a hybrid of a Type-2 Shuttle and Delta Flyer out of it, it all but had the shape already, sans the Nacelles.

I also had a wealth of Jurassic Park action figures, and frequently Dr. Allan Grant would team up with Boba Fett and Han Solo and thwart the train robbing Raptors before the T-rex would come along for the final boss fight.

Also had a lot of TNG and Voyager figures along with the ship. One of my fondest memories from childhood was Tom Paris flying Fett, Solo and Doc Grant in like a Blackhawk pilot before they all went HALO jumping in to stop some cheap-o McDonalds action figure from some nefarious deed I can't remember
