I just started the game this week but notice that my original selection of hair (completely shaven) for my male joined trill was fine in all respects except transporting at the end of a ground mission, a hair-shaped patch of black would form on his head just before beamout. On his body armor, there was a patch where the rank is kept that would do the same. Anyone else notice this?
I finally changed my hairstyle because it was annoying me. Hopefully I can change it back.
Happened after season 1 changes (strangely it was working great until then so dont know what prompted the change). This affects also armour and kit pieces .
Additionally there are isues with ground weapons that linger and my KA borg's laser eye that seems to stay behind on every mission (Pirates of the Caribbean style).
When I beam up my character's hair, 'stache, and rank panel on his uniform turn into big black...voids for lack of a better term.
My character has a mohawk, and pencial-thin moustache, but when he beams up he suddenly turns into Cleveland Brown, complete with full on 'fro and Lt. Dangle 'stache
I think it's your transporter tech just having some fun at your expense. It gets pretty boring, standing by the transporter console for 8 hours straight, and I believe my transporter operator does it on purpose...:)
Either that, ot they are just inept. My transporter operator sometimes beams part (or all) of my away team 580 meters away from my captain's position on the planet surface...at times I swear I can hear him snickering across the comm-line.
unfortunately, this is because of the way graphics engines handle transparencies, when they overlap, such as during transport, the top one overrides the bottom one. As much as I'd like to see this fixed, I doubt it will happen any time soon.
That's been an issue ever since they stop having characters fade away during the beam out sequence, and instead grainily point-by-point dematerialize.
I don't mind the grainy deconstruction, but if the price for that was messed up transparencies, I'd have preferred just a transparency gradient like before - that didn't cause problems for me.
Right now, the transporter effect plays out in a particle dissolve effect. This particle effect looks like it breaks the art tech and doesn't know how to handle head or facial hair.
It wasn't always like this.
Prior to the particle effect, the transporter effect used to use a fade dissolve, more in line with the TV show IP. When the game launched, there were no issues with funky hair. But an embarrassing problem developed when skirts were launched, as the fade dissolve would constantly show the underwear of the wearer every time she beamed up or down. So to "fix" that issue, the devs switched character dissolve tech.
But in fixing one thing, they broke another.... So, the Dstahl has always put "improved character hair and cloth tech" in his Engineering Reports. I really hope that improved hair tech fixes this very annoying bug. And I know they're aware of it. As it affects a LOT of players, and anyone with any kind of facial hair.
Actually, it's a mini-transporter specifically designed to give hair, ears and similar a gentle vitamin boost while transporting.
... >.> ... Whatddaya mean, you're not buying it?
Okay, that might have been not the fully truth. You caught me. But let me poke Matt about this; I am sure he will support my claim.
*gives the zombie some brains because the (necro) thread still is indeed needed*
If I can just add in here? This seems to be in a lot of places on a lot of things - hair, some comm badges, rank pins etc. I would imagine it's something to do with where different art elements and textures join being loaded/unloaded at separate times. I'd always assumed it to be a tech limitation rather than a bug and never reported it.
Now the trill skin gaps on the other hand :P But that's another thread.
I've also started a thread about this a while back. Got the same responses, sadly the devs never explained anything. Maybe it would help to include this bug in an FAQ somewhere. Since it's been around for quite a while and it's probably hard to fix.
Yeah this "feature" has been around and reported/posted about for eons... My "bald" captain gets black hair and beard or worse on ever beam out.
I use the TOS uniforms so it's the rank braids (basically a large section of the lower sleeves) and the area of where the insignia patches are that turn into blackness.
And I, too, remember that it wasn't like that at launch, it happened later.
This has been a major irritation of mine as well. Really breaks the flow when my hair beams out first. I try to look away during beam out.
I think the transporter chief stole my watch as well.
ROTFL Oh my ! I'm sorry to laugh! but the visual in my minds eye is hilarious as I try to imagine it!
I'm thinking that must have explained what happened to Kirk !
Then that comment about your watch made me lose bladder control a little, I was laughing so hard!
Thank you, I really needed a laugh after the day I had today!

Think of it as yer hair beaming up after you do......

LOL
I think it has to do with dynamic lighting. if you turn it off it goes away.
Nope... I have that turned off and it still does it.
Its really bad on the Catatian.
Maybe your transporter chief has a feline allergy.

However, if it is a simple fix (and I do mean fix, not work around) I hope they just get it done.

And sadly it's still very distracting.
Which makes sense if the alpha channel is disabled during the effect.
I have often wondered if it was the Shatner effect: Boldly beaming out toupees first (the girdle is always second).
And I, too, remember that it wasn't like that at launch, it happened later.
I think the tailor sold me defective uniforms.
Makes perfect sense.
