Alright, I want to state first off that when I bought the Collector's Edition of DC Universe Online I really thought that I would no longer play Star Trek because I am a Super Hero and DC fanboi ... but, after playing it for about an hour, I realized why I love Star Trek so much and how much potential that this game has. I think it has so much potential that I am dedicated to sticking with this game through its course. I just can't get into the corny mission sets DC gives and the missions are not what I expected. Graphics, and everything are great, the game iteself is great, but I realized I am a Star Trek fan more, and this game really provides the game I wanted all along. Anyways, point of this post is, is that I'm glad I'm back to playing Star Trek Online

And ... I only played DC for a day, but you can tell after getting to level 20 how a game is gonna be I think ...
Comments
i was thinking of taking a look but ill probably wait until a month or two in, see how it goes...if its even still going. any reviews would be helpful.
And Revo ole friend, not sure if i have any review wood, but if i find some, I'll let you know!
Again welcome back
Thank you sir! Appreciate the warm welcome.
bah, correct spelling is for other people.:p
Thats ok.......i take as many short cuts as i can. (being blind in one eye doesn't help when you hunt and peck at incredible speed).
Cooincidentally.....I actually have review wood........or at least thats what it says on the label...:D
Same story here, well, actulally not really the same, but the bottom line is the same.
After playing STO for about 4 months I got bored of the same kill 5, find 5, scan 5. So I passed over STO and went to other MMO's and really didn't thought I'd come back, because, STO was there a nice game, but totally no Star Trekish at all. So, I made other plans, in expectation of other MMO's.
At some time I saw an airing show of Star Trek TNG and asked myself, what happened to STO? So I read about the new stuff in the game and thought, to give it another try. Well, I got stuned with the improvement and mostly I got finally impressed with the Foudry. At the first read it sound the Dev's want to give us their job, designing the missions, but in the end it is totally not! It is the posibility to make the game beeing more like the shows.
I am really happy beeing back. The game feels trekish enoung to be called some sort of Star Trek and it is getting better all the time.
Pro: Strong art direction, clever combo building melee powers, Looks good, Citys are well realised and much closer to human scale than some games *cough* Travel powers are stupidly good fun once some of the upgrades are taken. Old school Item decay and destruction when used in combat.
Against: 2 faces in total in the CC. No extra costume slots, weired swan necked deformity in some of the stances, ranged powers are basically non exisant, Secondary powers that are not fire or ice blow, Leveling is hilarifast, single player RPG fast, Controls are for console players and thus horribly mapped to the keyboard, Missions are either easy or die 5 times just in the first room hard with no way to tell the differance, content was dangerously thin on the ground.
I would have to say that these pros and cons are perfect. I agree ... I will play DCUO off and on till my month is up or till I hit max level and content ... it could be either or after all.
I will be playing both. The DC Universe PS3 interface is fabulous, and people should take lessons from that.
I need more time with DCUO before I pass judgement on it but from what I did play and with my experience from the beta it's a fun game but could get old fast. The game is fun and plays like a beat-em-up more so than an MMO and pretty much everything in the game is voice-acted (taking away one of The Old Republics selling points) but I could definitely see myself getting old with the game.
Oh and the game has a pretty terrible chat system. Matrix Online, Guild Wars, WoW, & STO all put the DCUO chat system to shame.
-The opening movie is awesome. Flat out awesome. I have watched it several times without ever wanting to abort.
-Loading artwork is great. (Especially if it's a pic of of Harley and Supergirl)
-Voice acting is over the top melodrama, but expected to be since it's a comic book world. (I picture Circe doing very naughty things when she talks about turning citizens into demons)
-Leveling speed is ridiculously fast, and people are already complaining about lack of end-game content. (And for once, I can't put this blame on them for racing to the end. The end races to the player this time.)
-PvP is too rough around the edges for me to make a real judgment call on.
-The game needs a boob-slider. They are ridicu-big on everyone but small frames
-Costume creation is not nearly as intuitive as other hero games. Maybe once I'm used to it, I'll like it better, but CoH and CO did a way better job from what I've seen so far.
-Travel powers are fun, even though they only have flight, super speed, and acrobatics.
Initial Verdict:
I'm going to play my free month and walk away. I might peek at it again after a year.
Disclaimer:
I can't find a game that holds my interest anymore. I've been looking for over a year, and have wasted more money that I care to think about trying anything that looked remotely interesting. About the only game I still play regularly is EVE, and that's just usually to update my skill queue and dork around for an hour or so.
Do you get to work for Mr J?
The thing I really like is the dynamic combat. It is so neat to see characters in an MMO actually moving as they fight instead of the static stand and cycle through cool-downs that I usually see in MMOs.
yup. Obviously you have to go villian
Agreed. It would be nice to have more options and a more intuitive character creation systems.
I just love the more dynamic feel to the combat.
Zero problem with that ^_^ Wonder if they put mallets in....
Some reviews have made it sound fun, polished in some respects, and underwhelming in others, especially the controls (I would be on a PC). But when/if they offer a trial I would be all over that trial so I can make a proper denouncement of it.
I was looking at the game myself seeing Iam also a big superhero nut "superman fan" but no way will i spend a nickle on soe products.
same, but targeting in this game sounds worse than targeting in STO
I get hit with enough heavy plasma torpedoes, I don't need the DCUO pain
Pfff. SWG...
You werent there to see how they ran Matrix Online into the ground. What they did to MxO makes SWG look pristine.
I am not that big a fan of the DC Universe....Most of their heroes are goody-two-shoes and fluff...however the biggest reason...is that I flat out refuse to give SOE any more of my money....
Yeah..but what a lot of people forget...is that SWG was *NOT* 100% SOE's failure. Lucas Arts has a bad habit of micromanaging everything...and really making it hard for the subcontracted developer to really do the job right. LA stepped in and dictated what they wanted SOE to do...and SOE followed instructions per the contract.
BioWare is sadly in the same boat with TOR........
I blame Julio Torres for the failure of most Lucas Arts Star Wars titles.....He's a d-bag....there's a video of him from G4's Attack of the Show proving it.
Well at least everybody going knows right off there will be ten thousand glow batters running around.
DO A BARREL ROLL!
Not an image I personally want to see....
First, it is City of Heroes 2. There sadly was not not much initial new mission styles at launch. Most missions remain click the blinky, kill the boss, or defeat 10 gang members. And in the current status, not much has changed in that area.
Second was stuff to do. This ties into the plethora of abovementioned kill 10 gang member missions, but even today if you level up two characters will will HAVE to do the same route that the first did because there isn't enough stuff to do a second route. And then once you get to the end there is a feeling of 'what now'. The Serpent Lantern, Vibora Bay, and the recent DEMON adventure pack helps.
So the two problems basically comes down to one and that is content. Gameplay is pretty good, well balanced, and the mechanic of having a weak attack to build power to use larger attacks works very well. The content problem however keeps coming back. I think given a few more years, Champions will have that content. For now it is a highly recommended and fun romp, but be warned once you do the same mission chain two or three times, it can kinda loose that fun flavor.
This thread over at CORP basically developed in a vivid exchange of opinions and experiences. And here is another, much shorter one if you don't like to read the long story.
Basically, people think the following:
+ Combat and graphics are awesome
- Customization sucks and likely won't get better (prefabricated body types, few colour options, etc)
- little options for roleplaying (no "sit" emote, no private cross-faction chat, names are unique thus leading to use of sp
