Figured since my old sketches thread is lost somewhere in archive land that I would just make a new one and pick up from there, lol....

    Marathon Class

    Type: Long-Ranged Fast Personnel Transport

    Overview:

The Marathon Class was designed to address the need for a long-distance transport vessel for courier and diplomatic/VIP missions that would be out of reach of standard warp-capable shuttles or runabouts and to fulfill a mission profile that would be a waste of resources to task to a larger class of vessel.

The Marathon was built for two things: speed and range. It's warp core and power systems are very efficient, allowing the Marathon to fulfill both requirements of its mission profile and giving it a range of operations outstripping those of most standard transports short of a long-range colony vessel. It is a very fast vessel both at warp (9.75) and at impulse speeds - where it's impulse drives gives the Marathon one of the fastest acceleration times of any Starfleet vessel at impulse. This is a necessity because beyond a few small phaser arrays the Marathon's speed, shielding and high acceleration are its only real defenses against hostile forces.

The name 'Marathon' refers to both the long-distance endurance it possesses and is the name of the city in Greece for which it is named - following a pattern of other transport classes...

(it's been a while since i have done trek ships so its good to get back in practice for 'other' purposes... this was to go ina TrekBBS thread there, but i scrapped my account. The thread was for designs of the 'Cleopatra's Needle' for the Lost Era novel by Christopher Bennett - this was to be my entry for it, but since I scrapped my account i took some of the concepts i had done and the specifications of the ship, threw in some other stuff. and reworked them to a fast transport ship. And this is the result

That's much more like a Starfleet transport ship than the random ones in game.

This is quite nice actually. It's very much what I picture when I think of a federation courier/transport ship..

    Ericsson Class Multirole Light Cruiser:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/Ericsson.jpg

    Overview:

With the aging of Starfleet's long-serving classes such as the venerable Miranda Class and others, plans were drawn up for a new class of starship designed to several different roles. Sleek and graceful lines of ships such as the Nova, Intrepid, and Prometheus classes were a secondary consideration, as this new class was intended to be the kind of workhorse that its predecessor - the Miranda - had grown its legacy around, this new class would be designed to last well into the 25th century.

The result of this was the Ericsson Class.

Named for mechanical and naval engineer John Ericsson, the Ericsson Class is a light cruiser designed to carry large and reconfigurable equipment bays in its dorsal section, these bays can be outfitted with anything from science labs to mechanical repair and fabrication bays to massive cargo bays. The single large shuttlebay sits at the aft dorsal section and can fit ships up to runabouts in size. A smaller set of reconfigurable bays is located in the ventral section of the ship, and many parts of the saucer contain sections that can be changed over to other functions depending upon the mission assignment of that particular Ericcson Class vessel. it is armed with phasers and a three torpedo tubes - two firing to the fore and one tube firing to the aft of the ship.

Among the roles expected to be filled by the Ericsson Class are patrol missions, research missions, cargo and colonial support missions, and assignements to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers for construction and starship/bouy tender missions - to replace the few Huron Class tenders that remain in the SCE inventory.

Ericsson captains and crews know they cannot expect their duty to be glamorous - but the deployment of this class will nonetheless support the valuable backbone of the Federation and its allies.

That reminds me of the warp shuttles they had in the PnP RPG back in the day. Nice drawing, too!

I have the main rulebooks for everything but the Decipher version - may have to go back and see what you are referriing to.

Christopher L. Bennett may have this still on his blog somewhere, he used to.

Thankee! I just rip these things out on scrap paper at work.

Did this one a coupla years back or so originally as a Miranda descendant - survey/science vessel in peacetime and the additional function like an AWACS vessel in times of conflict. Named the Tucker Class (no, not for who you might think - it is named for William Sansome Tucker, whose scientific work eventually led to the development of RADAR.

Albion Class: lighter class of ship near the destroyer/corvette weight size, between this sketch and the Lemaitre Class at the top of the thread formed part of the basis for my late enterprise conest entry (late as in killed)
