Spotify & STO

Setting the scene:

I have a 10Mb cable connection that I share with two other people. Up until recently this has been absolutely fine for all our needs.

Since returning to STO and getting bored of the background music, I've been firing up Spotify to play tunes more to my liking in the background while I play. However, while I noticed before that there was still some rubber-banding issues in the game, these seem to multiply exponentially whilst using Spotify.

This occurs even the other two machines sharing the connection are completely switched off, but becomes fine when I close down Spotify.

Does anyone else have issues running these two together? I'm leaning towards STO being the culprit, as I've used Spotify with other MMOs without issue before now.

May I remind you STO uses a fair bit of a lot of bandwidth.

For example, each playable character when you're in a social zone has all their uniforms on your computer. Odd, I know, but it was done like that so they can instantly switch.

My suggestion would be to use a media player, as this is local, and ergo shouldn't use any bandwidth.

Though Cryptic's game is hardly the most efficient of games...for both processing and obtaining/using Data...

Fist things first, Ignore dawson, he's a noob/

10 MB is 10 megabits. which is 1.25 megabytes a second as a therotical maximum, more like 800kbps in reality, Those two programs on their own won't take nearly that much. which probably just means your being packet shaped by your isp.

I always use Itunes while I play, the game has crashed a couple of times because of this, but other than that there's been no problem

They better not be... If I'm playing STO and listening to music on Spotify at 1am and I'm getting "traffic management" occurring, it's completely against their stated policy of what and when they do that sort of thing.

Then again, I wouldn't put anything past Virgin

VIrgin do it like a boss, proper *******s for it, the only UK based ISP that I know doesn't do it is Be* internet.

Honestly not much you can do other than use local media to listen to. if you still get it is possibly a local performance issue.
