I am coming here to ask Cryptic to allow the fleet of Synergy to hold an in game memorial services for Kraegan that has acted the Diplomacy CO in the fleet. He is well known in the community of sto and we are wanting to hold the services on Vulcan at the Spire. This is to allow all the allies and friendly fleets of Synergy to get together and celebrate the life of a friend that has passed away. We are looking to do this on a Friday next week and would like to have Cryptic remove an instance cap there for us all to be on the same instance. I am hoping that the devs and the higher ups would allow this due to the fact he loved this game and was doing stuff joint fleet wise to continue interest in the game. Please let us do this in memory of a friend, mentor, and fleet mate that has been respected by a great deal of people in the community. If there is a question please contact me at LeoClark or any other Synergy member for this. Thank you
While I do not know Kraegan, I would like to express my condolences to all that that will miss him...and for your personal loss. I sincerely doubt Cryptic will honor your request for several reasons, but stranger things have happened. Best wishes.
Sorry for your loss from your friends and allies at the 12th. I remember someone telling me that there was a higher capacity or no cap limit at Risa, though I'm not positive. You may want to look into that.
First let me say that I don't want to diminish the death of your guy but you are full of ****.
Have you heard of previous events such as this in MMOs? Have they worked out that well? So either you've not been on the Internet long or living under a rock up until now or you're trollbaiting here since holding ingame events such as this is just the epitome of stupid and asking to remove instance caps just takes the cake. Yes, let's devote lots of resources to something that's hard coded in the game just so your service can be smoke bombed by some bored guy or whatever. Seriously, you can mourn him all you want., that's fine with me, but don't desecrate another person's memory by pulling **** like this and announcing it big on the forums.

Actually, When Gary Gygax died, there was an official event held in his memory on Dungeons and Dragons online (I believe they even added a statue of him in one of the social instance of the game.). Fleets/guilds/clans whatever tend to do this all the times in other MMO's if the person was well known, the only one i know of that didn't end well is one that happened on WoW.
Well do they announce those events on the official forums? Also I've heard of a few more, mainly in EVE. And it's not just funerals, it's weddings and stuff like that too.
The Gygax event probably had GM support, you will not get that here for a private event. I'm just saying it's a really bad idea and people parading around their dead friends for sympathy **** me off.

I don't think is sympathy that's wanting them to do that. such events are usually held out of Respect for the person. it's to let those who knew him in game pay their final respects to a person in which they likely wouldn't be able to go to the funeral in RL.

I agree 100% with you. Yesterday in zone chat they were practically begging for attention. Threw a random ice cube at a group near the clothing vendor and instantly get "can you please stop, weve lost a friend". Seriously? So I threw about 40 more at them just because of it.
I feel bad that he died, but this special treatment theyre asking and blatant advertisement (two topics on the forum and all over zone chat) for is just dishonourable to him. I lost an online friend Ive known for years this past summer. Instead of letting everyone in the world know, I told the group of friends he and I played with over VoIP and contacted his family over the phone.
Dont guilt trip Cryptic or other players. Keep it private, either on a bridge or in a remote area without telling the public about it.
I would suggest an open memorial service on Vulcan (at the summit). We held one last year for Vox Vorcain.
That said, i wouldn't expect any "official" recognition from the dev or global announcements - it's a conflict of interest to run a business and announce something like that.
Ships interiors are ideal for this sort of thing, I'm sad to say that the biothermal dampened jumped in my mind reading this, I'd not do it but the fact it crossed even my mind says a lot.

I agree. The ship would be perfect for that. Hold the service in the mess hall or something.

Eh. In the other game I play, Gemstone IV, they have added memorials in game to players and GMs who passed away. Since that game has a very strict RP rule (not out of game or out of genre stuff allowed within the game world whatsoever) the memorial elements were to the character. It is a nice touching thing, ten years after a player has died, that there is a small element of the game that memorializes them, whether it is a subtle statue or tree or what have you. Every now and then a new player will ask "What's the deal with that orange tree outside whereever" and people who remember will say it was for the person who passed away, who was a great player and great friend.
I think that if STO is thinking long term too, it has to be a game that grows, and shapes itself. If players contribute and are taken from us, I have no objection a memorial or even object being done to remember them.

And people like you are the reason that Bio-thermal Dampeners should never have been added to the game.
ok, two threads and all this hoopla is now getting to the point of outright annoyance.
you started a thread where it should have been, and now you bring it here to post the same exact thing.
most of us have had a loss at some point i am sure, be it friends, family, or other. i applauded your actions in the previous thread, but now i am thinking you want glorified stances from the devs or GMs in order to hold a "funeral."
im at the point now, i say let them man be. your making more a mockery out of it then it should be.
And people like you are the reason that Bio-thermal Dampeners should never have been added to the game.
if that were the case, then they should have moved to a private location or used planet to grieve. holding such activities and then expecting people to conform to your wishes alone is rather disrespectful of other players as well.

So... you support those religious crazies that picket public funerals for fallen service members? The ones that claim that dead military members are god's punishment for allowing TRIBBLE people to be TRIBBLE. Just because it is a public location means it's ok to **** with people who are trying to grieve as a community?

Freedom of speech includes speech that you dont agree with. Do I like what you just mentioned? No. But the question is not whether I like that specific example, but whether I like freedom of speech as a whole. And the answer to that question is yes.

I'm not talking about speech, I'm talking about messin with people who are tryin to grieve. I'm not sayin it should be outlawed or banned. I used that example because it is essentially the same type of behavior in hopes that people could compare it to their own actions. It is every individual's choice whether or not to be an ***.

Indeed, the solution is obvious. Hold your memorial on a private bridge. That's what these spaces were designed for. (Is there a cap on the number of invites that can be allowed on a bridge? Not that I'm aware of.) That's all there is to it, and that's what should rightly be done in this situation.

I'd recommend Vulcan's summit the far ice fields of Andoria.
Very few people got to any of these and you can fit more than 5 people in the instance. (in Vulcan's case, very few go to the summit itself).
while not a direct response to this request - as a related topic - we are definitely looking to increase the player capacity on starbases in the very near future.
