FOUNDRY - what you need to know

This is for players waiting on foundry content or considering using foundry on Holodeck.

Welcome, I am speaking as a Foundry writter from both Tribble and Redshirt.

IF you are waiting for UGC on holodeck.....very cool and thank you..in advance.

WHEN foundry goes live and is stable on holodeck, please give the writers a few DAYS
to copy over missions that we have been perfecting on Tribble. There is no copy/paste.
A single mission can include upto 10 maps, 1-75+ custom costumes, pages and pages of text...all
of it needs to be proof read...several times.

Bottom line...It is HARD work. So give us a few days...thanks :)

For players thinking of using foundry.

It is fun and it is hard. I am not going to sugar coat it.....IT IS WORK. But some of us like doing it.
How much work ? When you have moved a NPC a zillion times to get them to sit properly
in their seat....and then you get to do the same thing for the 20 other NPC's...you get my drift.

So if you looking for an easy 10-30 minutes to make your mission of your dreams...your dreaming
try on 40-50 hours to get it sweet.

<note: just copying what we have already done on tribble will be much faster>

For the players worried that UGC missions will be simple and boring.....lol
No, for most writers that spend a lot of time learning the tool, our missions are on par with
the weeklys. and getting better. your welcome.

Why am I saying all of this ?
Well, many holodeck players are not reading the forum areas dedicated to foundry and with
foundry coming soon to holodeck I felt it would be good to pass on some of this information
in advance to the regular holodeck crowd.

Game on, see you all when the foundry bomb drops on holodeck.

Meow

Why wait for people to copy content over?

Start making content as soon as it's on Holodeck. Party on, Wayne! :)

Agree. Theres no need to "wait" for anything once the Foundry goes live.

FOUNDRY - what I need to know ;)

How do player levels work? Do Foundry mission levels scale? Are they all for max level characters?

Yes, the missions scale to your level. There are some missions that require a minimum level to play(because of the types of NPCs used), but they wont show up until you reach that level.

Foundry missions scale to the player.........HOWEVER
certain types of mobs have minimum lvls..like borg so those missions will have a minimum
    lvl to play.

For people who have access to Tribble, but haven't used the Foundry because they are waiting for it to hit Holodeck, maybe it's a good idea to take some time to practice on Tribble.

At the moment The Foundry is pretty stable on Tribble and if you release tests and fake missions, it doesn't really matter on Tribble. But do you really want to release test maps and practice stuff on Holodeck, where people are expecting fully realised missions and are probably more ruthless in their ratings?

Also, I bet a large number of people will be trying it out all at the same time when it hits Holodeck, and if it's like what happened the first time it came out on Tribble, the whole thing will crash, disconnect you a lot and not save any of your progress because the servers will be overloaded. Not a really fun environment to practice learning the tools in. :p

What type of rewards can we expect?

Skill Points for completing the mission / Skill Points for killing x number of NPC?

Can we expect Items? and what type of Items? MkI, MkXII, the new Borg items?

Or are they just adventures to be done just for fun with no additional reward.

At the moment you get nothing other than the regular stuff fir killing baddies e.g 1 or 2 XP per kill and regular drops appropriate for your level (not sure about green or blue items, I haven't paid attention).

They were testing an NPC who gives out a UGC daily mission to play 3 missions that gave skill points. But I don't know if the rewards system is decided yet.

the random drops are pretty standard...have had a few greens drop during UGC missions
others had made.....not many, but does happen.

    ok rewards.....most likely to happen

    1. point toward an acolade for doing UGC
    2. some generic amount of skill points based on length

    >>> IF....I did say IF.. your mission is choosen by the developers to become a regular randomly
    offered mission....all bets are off.

They <cryptic> will assign a reward similar to their normal mission rewards to include gear
or a BO or what have ya.

Not sure how many UGC missions will be promoted to Standard mission status.
