I personally feel that with high potential for making mistakes with your spec and as complex as the skill system is, and with game changes that are unforeseeable that the respecs should not be as costly as they are. Its currently 30k merits to do a respec, just to move 1 point or all of them, it would be nice if you paid per point and was only charged for what you changed.

This would allow for some flexibility with unexpected game mechanic changes, as well as some room for mistakes and the learning curve. Also with a captains talents being as highly important as they are I don't think game critical things such as this should be cash shop items because by design they will make it very difficult to do it via the ingame option in hopes that you will opt to just pay extra for it.

Now all of this is worthless if 30k merits is something that's very easy to get and I just don't know how.

Thoughts?

I agree that it should be pay by point, if you want to respec at VA, but I do reiterate that you get several free reapers anyway.

Guide in my sig should help. Also, STOAcademy has a good skill planner you can use which should alleviate most of your concerns.

Being RA already when the respecs went in, I only received 2 tokens, I used one to switch my spec to a more up to date one, and then another a bit later to repec for a SCI ship, but a person has to spend 30k points just to change weapon specs, that seems a bit extreme. Just my opinion.

The guides you linked are good and I have read them already, This is more of a thinking ahead post I guess you could say.

Well its either cough up the 30k merits or cryptic points for the C-store respec. In all cases, the mere fact that you used a respec means you could have done more on the background work on planning.

I make it so I never have to use a respec from Ensign to VA. If see that I have to I go back to the drawing board and replan everything again, from SP allocation to BOff choices to even power-level calculation.

I do wish it was more reasonable also or at least like co were you pay per point removal so the more you change the more it cost rather then the only option being an all or nothing proposition.

I’d also really like to see the option for dual specs like so many other games have I think it would help with letting people experiment more with pvp at higher level.

its true newer toons should have 6 respecs but if your new to the game and still trying to figure things out like what ships you like or what builds work for you chances are you don't have them all left by the time you reach va plus now your trying to guard what you have left and avoid using them. I know its a quick way of making money with tokens but its a rather thorny one in that it does leave people feeling a little sour about the whole thing.
