Entering any system, at any time.

I dont know if it bothers anybody else but i dont really like the fact we cant enter most systems unless we have a mission there. It makes the game feel linear rather than open.

Should every system in the game be open to enter at any time. Even if they are empty of any objectives for the most part. Would it help make the game flee more alive and persistent if we can enter a system when ever we like, or would that not matter to anyone?

What if they added a feature to planets like a planetary survey. sol when ever you enter a system, if there is a planet there you can conduct scans of the planet. there would probably have to be a mini game of something and some type of reward (crafting maybe) attached to it.

What if there was a small chance of random combat encounter inside the system or some data samples. or perhaps if they ever do a proper open pvp have players be able to duck in an out of system.

Perhaps distress signals could be set up that pop up on screen from a random system and players can fly there and engage a enemy fleet or ground force?

Any over thoughts, or is this something that people are not bothered about seeing?

Perhaps we could move Diplomatic encounters from the Exploration clusters and have them on or in orbit of the planets in the sectors instead

I suggested this many moons ago lol.

But the word is originally the world was open like this, you could come and go as you pleased.
But appearantly beta testers found that too confusing so they locked down all the systems to access by mission only.

It's too bad.. this game could be so much better

you should be able to enter any system you want, explore the whole system, find anomalies around the system (envision some sort of scanning / searching game where you can scan down anomalies or derelict ships in any system) .. explorable planets with maybe some random quest givers on them and larger areas and critters

the whole thing feels like it's on rails as is, which sucks..

I understand that some of the beta testers didn't like it, but cryptic needs to stop pleasing 'all the people, all the time' and make a game for gamers, and star trek fans because their approach isn't working..

I hate to draw comparisons, and I don't want this game to be 'like EVE' but lets look at some simple facts: EVE is a nighmare to learn, is ruthlessly difficult and complex and most people who try it for the first time are very intimidated by it and you know what?

It's still a runaway hit, and so can be STO if you stop pandering to to the lowest common denominator in the feeble hopes of this being the 'everyman' game.

I agree. without the freedom to move about when and where you wish, it creates too much of a linear story effect similar to the FPS games where a door closes behind you preventing you going back.

I'd like to see random events taking place, even if it was similar to going into exploration zones. You go to a system and it could be a random mission or just nothing at all. If anomolies were present too, it might take the weight off exploration zones for farming. Nothing worse than trying to do an exploration mission to visit 3 systems when there's 20 other players farming the zone for data samples so the place is devoid of anomolies.

same suggestion I made back in the day when I fought for RP improvements, heard some promises never seen a bloody thing.

I can agree to this. Throw some anomalies in there. Open PvP could benefit from this as follows.
Klingon fleet orbits and Blockades Risa. Risa sends out distress signal. Federation fleets move in to break the blockade and remove the Klingons. Have it to where you have a limited number of respawns and once that number is reached, you can not enter that system again for say 24 hrs. To further clear things: Klingon captain approaches Risa. Menu pops up "Visit Risa" or "Blockade Risa" to allow the captain his choice. Fed captain approaches Risa. His menu is "Visit Risa" or "Defend Risa".
