So its the New Year and with it came a new season and hopes for more development in STO. With that in mind I thought I would list my hopes in one thread.
Here goes:
Galaxy X
Fix the graphical issues. The ship is paid for in addition to the subscription fee, it should at least not have such visual faults.
Make the ship more usuable. Judging by the USS Victory in Battle Group Omega, the Galaxy X is supposed to be a powerful Flag ship. Its spec should reflect this. I have no problems with the Dreadnought cruiser being made (tactically) the most powerful Fed cruiser. Something has to be, right? (Until its replaced - part of how Star Trek works).
Proposal:
Same weapon layout as before. Same Hull, shields power as a Galaxy R/Excelsior. Turn rate a little less but better than it is now.
Ships, ships more ships
Instead of including every single Fed ship of yesteryear as a retrofits and then subsequently having to refit every current ship to make them relevant again. I'd like to see Cryptic re-address the entire ship tier system in one go, launching a bunch of new ships to go with it.
What I'd hope for is a system that makes more sense than "If your Fed Engineer and want to tank then Galaxy R, want to attack then Excelsior R". And then nearly justifies the demand to refit all the Tac and Sci ships not to mention the Assualt cruisers and Star Cruisers (which should be awesome IMO).
Respec the ranks
I personally think it is stupid that we have all these Admirals running/flying around in missions. We saw (with the odd exceptions) that Admirals often sat behind desks while Captains were on the frontlines.
Yes, anyone in command of a ship is refered to as Captain, but they aren't Captain's in rank.
For me Star Trek was built on its Captains.
Change the skill tree
i) So it makes sense and isn't convoluted and has less contributing factors to each skill.
ii)So you're not limited to one type of Cruiser/Escort/Sci ship at the last rank and yet have ever increasing options. This meaning that you have to respec if you fancy a change.
Skill tree ethics
If the skills/abilities get increased or nerf'd then give every toon of that type one free token to respec. I think its unfair that those of us who have used all the respec tokens should have to pay to respec characters when key abilities get nerf'd.
Vendors/Ferengies and currencies
Personally I would like to see the Ferengi traders have the best (modified) items (Mudd traders a close second) for purchase (For example Fed phasers illegally modified with chroniton particles so they slow the ship down but do phaser damage as well - they would do slightly less damage as standard phasers of the same Mk but this is offset by the modifications for example). But I think and would like to see these items randomised so that they're only available on occasions (maybe even only on a daily basis) forcing you to check with your favourite Ferengi trader from time to time.
I think these items should rival the very best rank equivilent item you could craft at memory alpha. Right now vendors serve very little purpose.
I would like to see even less currency and Latinum used more so outside the Federation.
Make the ship interior more interactive
Why the option to replay missions didn't see the inclusion of a holodeck, is beyond me.
Moving the replay function to the holodeck (please include a holodeck), would be amazing.
I would really like to see ship interiors made more interactive. The ability to change your characters clothing, access the exchange, send mail,
Replicate:
Basic food in the messhall,
Medical items at sick bay
Should all be found within the interior.
(In fact if this was done, I would just spend days hanging out on my ship)
Include more Bridge packs
A proper Assualt cruiser bridge pack, please!
Content
More content for Klingons. I cannot stress this enough. I think as a minimum standard: That at launch of any new faction there should be enough content for a player to progress from the lowest rank to the highest by playing PvE alone and not having to rely on PvP to do so.
More maps and more mission variety
More ground maps and more mission variety. Hopefully will be realised with the Foundary/user content thing. Hopefully. But. Beaming down and fighting 5 groups of baddies and then the boss OR beaming down and scanning 5 artifacts. Is boring.
Same with space.
Tricorders
More options I want my tricorder to point out either my mission objective or set it to the nearest anomoly within the mission. I would like to have the choice.
Ability to duck and cover during ground combat
Much like Mass Effect, when in ground battle I would love to duck and cover behind objects. Not indefinantly as that would be boring, but the ability to hide behind things, pop your head up and shoot was a staple of the Star Trek gun fight and I would like to live that too!
Anywho, share your own views and hopes for what is to come!
I'll say that one thing I would really like to see would be some additional tweaks to the exploration system. What I would like to see would be multiple planets in star systems, with their own moon systems and such. Once in system being able to travel to these locations, and actually explore. By this I mean use the ships sensors to scan a planet from orbit, looking for points of interest. Think of it as something similar to what we have now with the exploration clusters where you can spawn multiple maps from the scan. At this point they could be survey some ruins, examine fauna and flora, lead a security detail to a grizzly death like Kirk did all those times on countless planets. This is something I would certainly like to see in the future of the game.

If i were to change anything, right now i think i would alter the scale of the planets/moons, to make them a lot bigger in proportion to player ships as well as space stations. But i might change my mind tomorrow.

I agree with pretty much everything you said but I feel like this one really needs to be highlighted. I'm not sure if that means the environments would need to have some adjustments made to acommodate a cover system, but something like this would go a long way to improve the very broken ground combat. I love the idea of a shoot out on alien worlds with my trusty phaser and I think the devs did an amazing job with the art style of the uniforms and armors, but as it stands now I hate getting out of my ship because it means ground combat.
On a seperate matter I think a great addition to the costume creater would be the addition of hip or waist holsters. The merc costume pack added some nice chest accessories, lets get some for below the waist.

I had an idea to attempt to fix this a while back. http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=185612 But it wasn't too popular.

This is IMO the weakest part of the game ATM. Over the state of KDF and ground combat.
