Can we have the old Galaxy bridge back (and ship texture)please.TRIBBLE

I noticed there is a thread on making improvements to the current starship interiors, and Stormshade said that they would be making improvements over time. So I thought it would be a good time to ask if we can get the original Galaxy bridge and ship texture that Cryptic originally had plans to release with the games.

For those who don't remember the epic trailer we saw with them in, here's a recap. Galaxy Bridge: 128.png 2 Star_Trek_Online_Galaxy_Bridge_Screenshot.jpg 3 TrailerScreen_09b.jpg

original Galaxy class ship texture. 1 galaxyqn6.jpg

Cheers.

I agree that one of the most important improvements for interiors would be to scale them to what we saw in the shows...in every show.
But I'd like to point out that those screens you posted seem to indicate that they are from the Perpetual times of STO, before Cryptic got the license.
So the way the bridges are now is as Cryptic intended them to be, those in the screens were the way Perpetual intended them to be.

Looks neat, but, well it might just be me, but those shots look composited. But they were taken from a video instead of promotional stills so that could be why.

I agree, properly scaled interiors are a very improtant in my eyes for a game to be taken serious. Those monstrosities we have now are ok when a game is sitll beta, but now STO is nearly a year old and we still running around in gothic cathedrals.
I dont want to say that this issue is a game breaker, but it would be a nice way to make the impression that the game is more than a C-Store money maker.

    Thank you for reading.

I believe it was one of the first videos that Cryptic made when they got the license. So they are originally from Cryptic' s champions engine.

This was from the very first Cryptic STO trailer. Nothing to do with Perpetual.

Which makes it even more tragic that we don't have it.
I fact STO is the first game i ever saw that has such unproprtioned interiors, maybe its just me but i find those oversized rooms and objects somehow disturbing.

    Thank you for reading.

    Okay, my mistake then.

Looks all so different and the trailer came so soon after the change to Cryptic...

    Anyway, sorry.

No, I agree. The comically over sized interiors need to be scaled down to be more realistic.

    Yes and no.

Cryptic owns Perpetual's art assets and designs and used them for early mock ups. (There's even some wreckage of Perpetual ships.)

    Looking at that screenshot:

I believe we use that MODEL in game now.

That LCARS display was shot down by CBS, as was a yellow and lavender one. Blue is the one new style of LCARS that CBS has approved.

Bridges that small don't support NPC AI pathing. Heck, try running bridge officers through the STF maps on The Foundry. Infected alone makes me facepalm at how stupid my BOs are.

Bridges that small don't work very well with the camera tech we have. (Though I think we need a better camera.)

Some of those textures like the bridge railing probably exceed Cryptic's target performance requirements for assets.

As I understood it the roomy cieling heights were necessary to accomodate the free floating camera - which seems logical enough.

Regardless of any of that, that trailer was entirely in-game footage using Cryptics engine, etc.

From what I understand this has been mentioned before, and It was Cryptic's choice to go blue for the LCARS displays. Also you mentioned they turned down the "Yellow and Lavender" color scheme. That I shot I posted of that particular color I found on the Internet, and If you look closely Its the same shot as the others its just someones altered the color of the image. Are you sure your not making that up.lol

This was discussed a million times.

The Dev's said the rooms need to be that big or the camera Clips.

Try some of the smaller Klingon Bridges with all the pipes in middle of the room and you will notice how the camere starts to jump arround.

Well instead of whining about the Camera and making bad interriors, how about making a better camera because the game needs it (and there are now 3 games of Cryptic that would be thankfull for better camera tech)....

optional First Person view would also be a very good thing for tight interriors, and something many people asked for.

    //edit:

    LCARS....
seriously if CBS would give a TRIBBLE about the LCARS in STO then they would kick some rear ends for the horrible LCARS displays we see on all of the Bridges!
I don't even care that it is blue only, i LIKE blue!
But the 3 Textures that are inside the game since launch are just randomly scrambled all over the place, there is no function visible, you can't tell an engineering station from a navigational one, Federation Logo's are inverted and reversed and so on...
i truly believe there is nobody working at Cryptic anymore that can do new Textures... or good ones.
Why isn't there a new Texture Set for the NX-01? Why do new Ships NEVER get a new Icon for the Shield bubble in the UI ???
And why are the LCARS screens allways the same 3 old textures?

    ...
also the LCARS screens were never static on the Series, there was allways something blinking or rotating or switching through diffrent Visuals... the Screens on these Cryptic Bridges just look dead.

I think the fact of screen recycling is my biggest grump over the whole LCARS thing. For example I know that I have seen the Engineering Table in several places and its always the same ship model on it...despite the fact the table isn't supposed to be on a ship of that class. I would be VERY happy just for a variety of LCARS presentations. What would be truly nifty would be if it were possible to say make the console face the equivalent of a green screen. Then the engine could randomly choose from a list of textures to project on this. To an extent this is already the case with consoles in places like ESD, but its not a universal thing. Additionally I don't know what sort of resource expenditure this would entail when it comes to drawing maps.

I seem to recall a while back that we having early whining Closed Beta testers to thank for interiors.
Because i recall that originally the interior camera was locked at the shoulder, but people didn't like that so they instead scaled everything up to allow for the fully free floating camera.

I was unaware of that. I thing it would be petty awesome to have a mass effect style camera angle while on board interiors. If that meant we could have smaller interiors.

I'll second (or third?) the better camera tech, as I also believe that would enable improvements such as scale of the bridges (which I wholly agree are too big). Perhaps something related to this will come with the ground combat revamp.

Also, I'll really jump on board with the console textures. They should blink and colored sections move around as they are working. Also the logos being mirrored and upside down could stand to be fixed. I remember there being talk of polish being the focus for the time being, not new features.... But I still think the team is doing overall great work and the game just keeps getting better!

if i had the choice i would love to have a restricted camera and reasonable interiors, instead of those monstrosities we have in the game now. It makes the game look too cartoonish IMO.

    Thank you for reading.

agreed. this excuse about the camera is BS too. try playing, I don't know, any third person camera game in the last 10 years and compare the interiors of those games, they are not gigantic cathederals like in STO.

i still agree about interiors being too large.. ceilings in trek were always about 2 average body lengths in height for starships, two and a half body lengths in ground and starbase interiors (depending on the location). doors were about 1 and 1/4 the height of an average person. it all needs adjusted.. Finally the doors are making progress, but they still look silly against the 40 foot tall walls

That video was pieced together with a lot of old Perpetual work from before Cryptic had the license to do the game; I doubt that we'll ever see those exact pieces but they've made great strides in improving the Galaxy Class to be more canonical as well as other ships.
