Vulcan Ship...what s the plan Mr Stahl?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
As you may or not have noticed...some players were very....let s say surprised/disappointed by the fate of the Guramba ship...

So this is a simple question ...what are your plans for the Vulcan ship? C store only, C store T5 and T3 in game, C store account wide or 500 emblems Character unlock etc...

Thank you

Hopefully, Cryptic has a mix of acquisition methods.

If not, Stormshade's going to have carpal tunnel from all the threads he'll have to close.

Maybe it will be T2 and T4 so that those levels can have something.

I would assume c-store only but that is a completely uneducated guess:p Lets hope it has several ways of getting it; though i will probably get it either way as it looks so nice:o

Oh. Huh. That's wierd. You sure? Mayhaps you don't have a free ship slot?
Anyways, judging from the context of the wording used to describe the thing, it seems that it doesn't launch a "repair drone" in the sense that you'd be thinking of, like the Klingon Carriers do. It seems that it might launch this small support craft in a manner analogous to the Galaxy Retrofit's saucer.

That may just be the way their going to let people get it to test, and does not necessarily mean it will be available that way on live.

while the idea of purchasing the ship with EC is very attractive ahhah, I know it wont happen.

But yeah its just to allow people to grab it on tribble and test. Iam looken forward to this ship though :)

It's been on that console at least as long as the Borg loot has been on tribble. I remember being excited to test it, and then disappointed at it not being active.

If Im going to spend 25$ on a ship, then I dont want to just use it for 10 levels... Id rather it be usable at all levels. 25$ is alot of money to spend on a ship you only get to play in for 10 levels...

Isnt that what those ship costumes are supposed to be for? Im waiting impatiently for the andorian ship more than I am the vulcan.

Meh, another T5 ship... as if its presence in Starfleet would not be questionable enough.

But lol @ cut & paste from the Gorn cruiser. :D

Yeah, I am kinda wondering as to why it's labelled as the Varanus cruiser, but then in it's description it's clearly the D'kyr.

It sounds like another underpowered sci ship to me. It's support capabilities might make it a good pvp ship but the fact is sci ships are underpowered for pve. Take any mission and the sci ship will take longer to complete it than the cruiser or escort. The science powers are unnecessary for pve and underpowered in my opinion.

I wont pay $25 for a ship unless it basically has an I win button. I don't want it to have one but $25 just seems like gouging to me. I was very disappointed in the Gax-X and the Garumba doesn't look worth the money either. Hopefully they charge 1200cp instead of the overpriced 2000. I'd love to fly a Vulcan ship since my main is Vulcan but not enough to be overcharged for it. Notice I just disregarded the chance that this will be offered in game; I believe they plan to market almost all new ships as c-store only. I also still believe that these ships are in the charge of marketing and dstahl has no say in whether they have an in-game method for purchase and no say in how much they charge for them.

Don't get me wrong, it's appropriate for the Vulcan ship to be a science vessel. It's just that science vessels are the weakest ship type and none of my 13 characters fly one anymore. But since it's a Vulcan ship I'll probably buy one if they don't overcharge for it. One thing they can do to make it more worth the money is to make more than one tier version of it. In fact the Vulcan ship lends itself well to being a lower tiered ship, so hopefully they offer more than just a tier 5 version.

Science ships need another balance pass. Either increase the science powers like tach beam and others or give it a 7th weapon slot. Otherwise they're only good for crowd control and you don't need crowd control for most pve. Maybe STFs but that's about it. Here's hoping that the Vulcan ship isn't a waste of time like the Gal-X.

*Shrug* - Don't buy it if you don't want it. Problem solved.

Look, of course this ship is going to be on the C-Store. I don't know why you guys are even asking that question. We all know it's going on the C-Store.

Especially after what just happened to the Garumba. Imagine how the forums would explode if, say tomorrow, they announced that this ship was going to just be a free T5 ship for the Federation. Oh and sorry folks, but StormShade still hasn't had any luck convincing the powers that be to add the Garumba to the refer-a-friend program.

The forums would burn in a way that we haven't seen since launch.

Do you all really believe that marketing is stupid enough to do that again?

    Wait! Don't answer that!

I said the ship was going to be c-store only. You act as if I didn't. And maybe it would be better for the company if more people bought rather than less. Maybe we give feedback so the devs (or at least marketing) hear a way to get more money for their artist's time and effort. Or maybe we, as always, just snark and act derisive of other people's posts.

If the marketing department would be worth it's money they wouldn't have created the desasters they did in the past with the Gal-X and Garumba as well as other "great" things.

I see many ships appearing in C-Store during the next year. It comes down to simply supply and demand. We want more ships, so Cryptic delivers them with a price they set as they are the monopolist.

I'm betting this ship will be like the recent ones added to the KDF(not the Guramba, the ones before it). You can buy them from the C-store, or get them through alot of tokens and what not in game. And most C-store ships are NOT $25. The only reason the Gal-X cost that much is because it had to be priced high enough that the people who actually recruited the people to earn it couldnt cry foul(even though some did). And the reason the Garumba is $25 is because it is approximately equal in power to the Gal-X. But those are special circumstances. Look at the last ships added BEFORE the Garumba for an example of standard ship pricing based on tier:

    NX - T1 = 800 points

    BOP retrofit = T5 = 1200 points - also available in game

    Gorn ship = T5 = 1200 points - also available in game

    Orion ship = T5 = 1200 points - also available in game

    Fek'lhr ship = T5 = 1200 points - also available in game

    Nebula class = T5 = 1200 points - also available in game

    Excelsior class = T5 = 1200 points - also available in game

Its pretty clear that the system is as follows:

    T1 ships = 800 points

    T5 ships = 1200 points

    Ship costumes = 160 points

The only exceptions are the Gal-X and Garumba for the reasons explained above.

I won't mind if this is 1200 points (since I'll wait for a sale to pick it up). What I'd really like is a Excelsior style situation, where you can fly it at a lower tier (2? There's no new ships there yet) and then again at 5 as a retrofit. But I'll be happy either way. Group hug.
