It's really surprising. Best launch? Seriously? It was almost a fatal trainwreck. But, I guess if the competition is Hello Kitty and mostly lesser known IPs...
Still, it's good press and that is good for the game. But, wow, seriously... best crafting?

No, STO's launch was FAR from a 'trainwreck'; and if you think it was; you honestly haven't been a part of many MMO launches. Seriously.
EVE Online's was WAY worse, and was World of Warcraft's launch for that matter.
Except launch. The main problem with the launch was volume, which while itself is not exactly a sign of brilliant planning, is much less of a problem than, say, the database backend being inoperable the first day. Bonus points for the Ship Bug being hilarious.
I'm going to create an MMO called "None of the Above." I'll win every award!
But on a serious note, STO really didn't have much competition this year. And I really think a "Most Improved" category would have been the biggest indicator.
Congrats STO. I do feel it may actually be a sign of a more supportive community rather than actual acheivement. Which I suppose is an acheivement in itself! I've said before, STO is slowly getting to be the game it should have been.
The graphs do show a worrying trend though: the most anticipated MMO is Blizzard's unannounced project. Bit worrying to have so much anticipation for something that there is/was (if you're reading this after an announcement) not an ounce of info about. It could be Sylvanian Families Online for all those people know.
I haven't tried crafting in STO in awhile but it never seemed like crafting. It was more like I would bring the mats to the NPC's. On the plus side I didn't have to spam trade for someone who could make that item.
I have to be kind of skeptical of the results when EQII won MMO of the decade and STO won best crafting.

It also means it could be the biggest flop if it isn't perfect at launch. The higher the expectations, the larger the crash.
It should've won best crafting and biggest disappointment. The game has gone a long ways since launch.
2010 didn't have many solid new MMO releases.
This.
It reminds me of that scene at the bar in Good Morning Vietnam:
Jimmy Wah: "Bobby Bob beer, best beer Vietnam!"
Adrian and Edward: "Bobby Bob beer, only beer, Vietnam!"
Don't get me wrong, I admire the direction STO has gone, and it's getting better. But it's not hard to be the sharpest tool in the shed when you are the only tool in the shed.
Yeah. I highly doubt those results would have been the same had it not been for the "campaign" here on the forums and launch pad asking people to vote. But either way, its good publicity(unless people read the comments at the bottom).
SWG does have the best crafting system of any MMO.
Vanguard had a pretty good one too. I never tried SWG really I only played it a couple of weeks or a month. I heard some players say it was kind of like SWG.
I'm surprised it actually got votes for Best Crafting, considering all the complaints people have with it.
Don't complain, it could easily have been like EQ with a RNG deciding whether you make the item or not... Fail, fail, fail, sucess, fail, fail... A real horror story when you've taken hours or even weeks or months (as in the case of EQ) to farm the mats. I doubt anyone would have even bothered with crafting if it was like that.
I think that it just goes to show that while the 1% is raging on the forums the 99% are just quietly playing the game and enjoying it. What is happening on the forums is not what's happening in game.
STO is doing far better than most people on the forums seem to believe it is.
I can't believe Guild Wars won best MMO of the decade. I played that game for 3 months, got bored and haven't touched it since (this was around launch). Well, kudos to them I suppose. And kudos to STO. Couple of things made me raise my eyebrows, like crafting, but overall I think you guys deserved what you won.

its an MMO, a trainwreck launch is considered pretty solid
Quite frankly I don't think the poll can be trusted as reliable in any sort of way it's just a opinion poll. They can easily be manipulated if people really wanted too.
Wow. Im shocked. This game won best crafting? XD Wow.
All though Im sure a lot of those "None of the Above" was really "World of Warcraft".
Plus voting multiple times on this paints a dark light on the "awards".
Especially since World of Warcraft was left out of most of the categories.
Seriously Star Trek Online does not have better crafting that World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, and LOTRO.
And pretty certain Blizzard's world wide arena seasons, numerous pvp bg zones, and a definete seperation of PVP and PVE in the game would give it a head. Especially since you can win real money in the Arena Seasons (if you are good and your team is good).
I did vote on this. And I was in the none of the above on most of those. Because World of Warcraft was not on the polls. Best launch of 2010 has to be Cataclysm. By far. No game stoping bugs. Caused millions of hybernating subscribers to come back. Etc.
I wouldnt consider this a definitive set of awards to be proud of. The selections were biased. Massively polls can be easily spam voted. lol

Yeah I agree with you. I played it for a while but after the really low level cap it becomes a horrendous grind to upgrade your gear.

Keep in mind the competition: as bad as STO is (and even was) in this area, the competition was really poor this year.
Look at the competition though. Do all of those games actually have crafting?
I suspect that this poll is the result of the launcher, whereas none of the other game companies cared to rally their communities to vote in it.
Still, it's good press, especially when the game is finally starting to get good. We need the poll, even if it's pretty darn fishy.
Final Fantasy XIV had it: it was a chore and you spent more time fighting the crafting interface then you did the monsters.
Global Agenda's crafting is... even less underwhelming than STO was at launch (and STO lacked any documentation at one point).

Pretty much the reason STO won anything.

Check the chart again. wrong purple. EQ2 didn't win. It was Guild Wars
SWG does have the best crafting system of any MMO.
Can't really comment about Guilds Wars I never played it. I still think crafting in STO as just buying items from vendors.
Vanguard had a pretty good one too. I never tried SWG really I only played it a couple of weeks or a month. I heard some players say it was kind of like SWG.
I'm quite pleased with the progress so far and look forward to another awesome year with STO.

Second, I can't believe EVE won so few awards. True, Tyrannis stunk, but Apocrypha was awsome.
Third... GO STO!
Basically everyones opinion is right to them.

But these polls can be rigged.
