Memory Alpha and Crafting - Thumbs Up

I have been a vocal critic of crafting for the majority of the time I have played the game. Crafting for items available in the exploration stores made little sense to me given the effort involved in acquiring data samples. Now, however, with the changes made with the release of Season 3, I have become an avid carafter and a vocal proponent of this aspect of the game.

I initially thought I would have to grind through useless items to get to the Aegis gear. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are many items for each tier that can only be gotten through crafting, items that are very useful to my lower tier characters. Additionally, my higher tier characters benefit from a broad selection of MK XI items, rare and very rare.

Crafting for several items now takes only a few days as opposed to a month acquiring those items, one by one, through gathering Emblems from running the dailies. For me, that is a welcome change. Emblems are still required for some things...Borg gear, disruptor gear, and some ground gear...;however, with the new crafting system as a valuable supplement to the acquisition of items in the game, I am no longer faced with the prospect of having to spend 2 to 3 days in the dailies to get a single item.

I know you have changes planned. All I can say to you is thank you for making this an important part of my gaming and keep up the good work.

I like it quite a bit over the original system. I also lucked out and held onto most of the samples that I came across leveling early on (even though I had no interest in crafting) so that made it actually pretty easy to reach the crafting cap. There is some really nice stuff there and it's not too complex to make.

I'd like to see us have the ability to customize the items more specifically. For example, you can make one type of Antiproton Dual Beam Banks with a single set to buffs. It would be really nice to be able to alter those stats for a higher DMG bonus, or better ACC, or a better mix. Maybe this could be achieved by adding all new recipes or even taking the base items that you can create now to replace the schematic and then adding different materials to alter the traits. I'd also like to have the ability to fabricate items on my ship, without the need to travel back to Memory Alpha (but then again, I'd like to see the ship interiors become more useful overall).

At any rate, what it is now is pretty nice. It was definitely a better way to go.

I like the system, too. I found the previous crafting systems too annoying or complicated, so I avoided them, and as a result I had more than enough samples to get started on the new system (I've since run out of the yellow samples, though :D).

Crafted several Aegis sets, too, one for use and the rest for sale. At over a million per component, you can make quite a lot of ECs that way.

I like the new crafting system a lot as well. I have maxed it on two characters (so far) one Federation and one KDF. The stats on it make it worthwhile.
