Camera: FOLLOW TARGET....pffff!!!

I'm not sure what changes were made to the FOLLOW TARGET camera setting but the camera does not keep up with the ship. This is especially notable in the defiant where turns are taken on a dime.

Pre-season 2 the follow target option seemed to keep up with no problem. But it would seem since then something has changed. The camera is slow to keep up with the target and in some cases wont turn at all until you manually rotate view enough for it to finish. But then you might as well use FREE CAMERA and do it all yourself.

Has anyone else noticed this as well? And if so....cryptic....how do you intend on correcting this problem?

First thing I did in the game was change the camera to free. It's better to be in full control of what the camera is facing and not have it always tracking back to the target. Most combats there are a lot more things to keep track of than only your target, and manually keeping the camera on the target is not that hard either.

I prefer the follow-target option as I oftentimes need both hands on the controls instead on one hand on the camera and the other on the controls. I've played this way since Beta and have learnt to expect it always.

In fact, I oftentimes have trouble adjusting back to defaults from my normal setup to the point that I've made it a habit to copy all my settings that I normally have on/off and make sure to put them in first chance I get on a new character.

I use the free camera and move it to where I want it to be... I feel more in control and can see everything around me when zoomed all the way out... Could not imagine a pvp match with out it... I have found that a free camera lets me auto target more easily by having the target in sight... besides... how can you see what's behind you? Maybe you should try something different... Perhaps your gameplay or experience will improve...

Perhaps I'm just weird and do things different but I'm very happy and fairly successful.

The lazy Follow Target camera has always been terrible.

I still leave it on but end up having to take control, eventually, because the camera parameters are set so bad the target will go to the edge of the screen and even off of it.

I'd hoped they narrowed the FoV play on this down in updates but so far nothing.

Well, I ran in to some bug where it defaults to Follow target no matter how many times I choose my option for Free Camera. Something odd about it all together.

I use the chase camera all the time now, it's far better if you turn fast to keep up with circling ships and use the other hand on the keyboard to fire and drop buffs/debuffs as well. Unless you've grown a third hand, it's impossible to do that and use the mouse to rurn the camera as well.

See, my camera is bugged somehow too. The opposite to this though, I'll start of with Follow Target selected, then half way through a battle, it changes to Free Camera for no apparent reason.

The problem I have with a free camera is that whenever I click on the screen to start dragging the camera, I always end up clicking on another target, which screws me up WAY more than a lazy follow camera ever could.

But I agree...the follow camera is a little too lazy, IMO. I know people on this forum always try to compare STO to Bridge Commander, but this is the only time I'll ever do it. I wish STO had the chase camera BC had (your target is always kept in the center of the screen).
