Hello guy :D I am new to the game and I am a Huge Star trek Fan. I am a veteran mmo player (not just wow). My question is this.....does the game remain as fun as it is in the Demo? Also, is this a great community? (Coming from ffxi and eq...wow was a shock...) Thank you for you answers and look forward to seeing some of you ingame.

P.S........any particular sever I should pick? Im not above Roleplay'ing lol

    Hello and welcome to STO.

First of all there is no special server you could log in to. STO just has one realm.
There are many interesting missions of the Fed side of the game, the Klingon side is still unfinished and lacks very much in content, although there 2-4 nice missions, too.

Welcome Roxxo. You've picked a very good time to start the game. There have been some very nice recent additions, and its the best its ever been. While it is true that the Klingon faction does not have as much content as the Feds, it has greatly improved since launch, and I would recomend creating a Klingon character once you unlock that faction(at level 6 I beleive) and leveling him up alongside your Fed.

Additionaly, there is a system called the Foundry that allows players to create missions for other people to play that is being tested on the test server and should be going live before you reach max level, so that will provide a huge influx of new content for both factions and is something to look forward to in the near future. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask and I hope you have fun :D

STO when it started was an unfinished MMO, content-wise at least.

STO now is one very nice MMO. And improving.

Take time to poke around everything you have. I'm already on my third character and only just discovered I can make personal captain's logs! Thats soo going to be RPed by me :D

Also, dont expect complete adherance to the canon. Its not a hard-and-fast Trek followup. More like a general for-Trek-fans approach of an MMO.

Also, if you have questions, dont hesitate to send me a PM either via this forum, or via the ingame mail :)

Even Star Trek series didn't stick to the canon. As an example:

Enterprise S01E14 Sleeping Dogs: T'Pol says: "Klingon ships do not have escape pods."

Enterprise S04E06 The Augments: Noonian Sung {sp} was ejected from a Klingon BOP in an escape pod.

The first ties in with Klingon culture as retreat is not an option and no Klingon would use an escape pod to avoid death, it would be dishonourable. Therefore, the use of an escape pod later on was not in keeping with the canon.

This is common throughout the entire series from the days of Kirk right through to DS9. Sometimes the canon used to change within the same story.

The main game is much much better than the demo.

The game is in pretty good shape now days. KDF is still very limited on PvE missions, but the few we do have are IMO easily the best in the game.

The community here is also unique in my experiance for an mmo. For example, if you ask a question on wow, you can expect to get flamed for being "n00b", here if you ask a question you get an answer...probably more than one. The majority here are very helpful.

You might also notice the devs frequent the forums, and not just community reps, the code monkeys come here too.

Sounds like they do all the time in the Trek Radio channel.

The main game is much much better than the demo.

I agree with that 100% (assuming the demo hasn't been changed).

As with most MMO's this has a good community until you say something bad about the game oh and never mention WOW, you will be flamed.

If you slag off the game a fan boy will report you and a Mod will then give you an infraction.

Anyway welcome to STO I am sure your stay will be short :)

Tad bit hostile there mate, If you aren't enjoying your STO experience I'm quite sorry for that. However, I see no point in saying these kinds of things to a new player. Most of the people on the forums can manage to be friendly even when they disagree with each other.

To the OP.........as with any other MMO, you will find some people who seem to carry a constant air of negativity around them. This is true of the real world also. I've been around since beta and I think I can say I'm pretty familiar with the community. Overall, we're a nice group and most of us try to be helpful to new players. I hope that you enjoy the game (which is MUCH better than the demo) and that you will stick around for the long haul. This game has been improved immensely since launch, and I'm confident that it will continue to grow for years to come.

So, welcome and enjoy........(try to avoid negative people and you'll avoid negative gaming experiences)

Welcome to STO! One great thing about our community is it's diverse. You will find. PVE players PVP players Trekies Trekkers, Members of Starfleet International, old Starfleet Battle players, Role Players..you name it. By and large it is probably the most open welcoming MMO community out there. If you have any questions just ask

I hope you enjoy your stay
