On the ship requisition window, I can see a tab that says I can sell my ship. I took an Escort ship and then decided to grab a heavy cruiser because of the transwarp feature. I didn't realise then that it only gave me the ability to transwarp to 3 sectors local to ESD, I was kinda hoping for something that would allow me to get from Sirius sector to dock at DS9 etc a bit quicker.
I now want rid of it but as far as I can see, my only option is to decommission it and lose all of my 131K EC I spent on it. Is this a bug? I can understand not being able to sell back the ship you got for 1 EC when you ranked up but it should allow you to recoup a little of what you spent on a full priced ship.

Yeah I bought a fair few other ships along the way up to check them out, even if I never used them in combat, that I wish I could sell back. But alas, you can not.

Before choosing a ship, it may be beneficial to go to the Tier 5 Database (or whichever you like) and make sure it has all the features you expect. You can get a transwarp to DS9 as an innate ability when you reach the diplomatic rank of Ambassador (1360 Diplomatic Experience).
Technically, the cost isn't 1 EC but 1 ship plaque (which I think is only picked up on from reading all the text when Admiral Quinn gives a promotion). The icon is misleading, as it reuses the energy credits one.
If I were you, I wouldn't sell (decommission, really, since you get nothing back except an empty ship slot) a starship until you've maxed out all available spaces.

Even if you don't fly them anymore, you can always store extra weapons and devices for your other ship so you don't have run all over ESD to the bank.
Even without all the transwarp powers you were hoping for, the T3 Excelsior is still quite a nice ship. I'd give it a go.
I like the manouverability of the Escorts, going back to a Cruiser now is like a hobbled snail on tranquilisers.
I only got one with transwarp so I could get to the exploration sites easier. Little did I know it was almost quicker to go the slowboat way. When you are in the Sirius sector, why bother to transwarp to the Regulus sector? Even to Pi Canis sector only saves 5 minutes. Orellius, Zeta Andromadae or Beta Ursae I could understand since you have to go by way of Eta Eridani which can take some time - Nearly 15 minutes from ESD to DS9 including loading time when I checked, nearly 20 minutes from Memory Alpha to DS9. More if you have a slow PC (or an IDE drive).
I honestly don't know why the sectors have to be so small, most PC's now could handle the entire STO galaxy as one load, it's not exactly a huge place.

Well the Adv. Heavy Cruiser Retrofit I feel is one of the best suited Ships out there and even at T3... It can only Transwarp to 3 other locations at T3 level and the ability to Transwarp to DS9, K7 or SB39 directly are only given to Ambassadors.
But the fact that you can't sell a ship back is kinda "sucky" if you ask me... Even at a low return loss should be at least given... But for the momment, what you spend is what you lose and sometimes gain when you've finally found the ship that best suits you. I've personaly gone through every single C-Store and Shipyard Ship that has been released and I've found out that with my gaming style that the Adv. Heavy Cruiser Retrofit best suits me for my style of gaming. It's a hit a miss kind of thing, so sometimes, you just need to spend the cash or ECs and not think about the loss and look at it as a learning curve.

Besides transwarp and leveling up, there are a few ways to get through space faster. By changing instance (at top right), you can go to a pre-defined position [Sirius it's near Sol, Regulus it's far south of the sector block, Beta Ursae it's far west, Gamma Orionis is northeast near transwarp conduit, and so on). Thus, you can get from Pi Canis to Sol in about a minute by moving to the Regulus / Pi Canis border, transferring map, changing instance, transferring map to Sirius, changing instance, and then you're sitting right outside of Sol. Items and abilities that can speed you along in sector space is diplomatic immunity (given by Envoys and Ambassadors -- just give a shout out in zone chat and someone will likely help you hit Warp 9.97) or by using the Borg subtranswarp engines from finishing the Special Task Force "Infected" (must be at least level 45).

While transwarp to DS9 is given at Ambassador (1360 DXP), you can get transwarp access to Deep Space K-7 at Consul (400 DXP) and Starbase 39-Sierra at Envoy (720 DXP). Since you can get guaranteed DXP from Ambassador Jiro Sugihara's missions once you hit Attache at 160 DXP, it should make it much faster to progress (there are also dailies like Rescue Deferi Captives that give 10 DXP and can be done in under a minute and without latinum).

My bad on that fact... That is true... Only DS9 is rewarded when becoming Ambassador. The others are rewarded earlier.
