Anyway to respect your character without paying 5.00 a pop?

I find this quite annoying and asinine.

Can you not spend your merits or credits to respect your character?

Merits can be spent yes. Think it was 28k at VA or something.
And think you get a respec at each new rank as well(not that it helps people that was at the cap before they added that).

you get a free respec (which stack) at every level up. By the time I hit VA, I had 4 or 5 free respecs. It also costs something like 30k merits to respec.

don't bother with paying for it from the Cstore.

I never respec early on to save those points for later when different ships come out or I just want to change a character. That being said, the CStore is the appropriate place for respec tokens though a questline would be a useable alternative to retrain as an alternative.

About the price, 5.00 is probably not that unreasonable since most people don't really respec all that often and the game has to be made for the majority.

I was thinking the same thing. there is no "t" at the end.. re-specification. fairly common mistake.

Thank you i didn't know you could get them for merits as well. but as a poster said save the ones you get between rank ups so you can do it at VA when you have more points and know exactly what you want.

And the quick response is yes. Yes you can spend merits to respec, even if you're out of free tokens. Did you even try to check before you posted here? It's not like you even have to do anything special or go somewhere other than the respec person. You just respec as usual, and pay the merit fee listed.

I am assuming of course you know where that guy is, because if you haven't ever respecced, then you probably have several free respec tokens anyway, in which case you're complaining about something you can already do for free.

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask, comprende, komrad? I think you need an "s" on the end of your nick.

It costs 30k Merits at VA to respec.

You can pretty much obtain that by doing most dailies over the course of a week.

Just keep in mind that retraining BOFF's also costs Merits.

No, retraining BOFF's cost Officer points. Unless you mean purchasing new skills at the BO skill trainer.

It costs Merits/Honor to rename BOFF's and ships and for buying basic white level new officers from the officer store. Beyond that and Respec'ing there really isn't much at all else you can do with them.

Its best to plan ahead to avoid using too many of your respecs. Using a skill planner could help.

A very nice one is on STOAcademy right here, http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner.php.

I personally use it and the only time I've had to use my respecs was when I did a VA-level change for my sci/sci from a energy-siphon-based setup to a shield breaker, which btw are both very good approaches to sci/sci.

Save your merits for your BOff specs. Trust me, if you do a lot of experimentation, this will eat them up.

Same goes for bridge officer points, moreso...
