Using Bridges as Maps

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I've seen missions that take place on a bridge, but I can't figure out how to get it work. I can choose a bridge as an interior map, but I'm unable to place anything in it. What am I missing?

Thanks!

hard to say...I chose a bridge as my interior map and was able to place 6 or 7 NPCs and a console to interact with.

Ok. It's official. I'm an idiot.

It helps to scroll the map viewer over to actually see the map in the editor. :D

Chalk this one up to user error.

You're not an idiot. It's a new tool set, still in beta. There's quite a few people learning more and more about it every day (Including me!).

    Thanks,

Speaking of Bridge maps, I'd stay away from trying to use a Bridge map as a scene that is supposed to take place on the players' ship. Using it for scenes on ships other than the player's ship, that's all fine and well however.

So, I'm wondering, does Cryptic have any long-term goal to allow us access to the player's bridge so we could actually make scenes that take place on the actual ship of the player playing the mission?

I'd doubt it...just from item/character placement, that sounds pretty close to impossible. It seems like there'd be too many variations in geometry to take into account: an item that on the deck of one might be hovering above another and clipped into a chair or console on another.
I'm not saying they wouldn't *want* to have scenes on the player's bridge (I can't imagine anyone not thinking that would be AWESOME) but I'd be surprised if the tech exists to do something like that.

If they put some universally defined positions that were common to all bridges that we could select then it could work - e.g. a spawn point in front of the viewscreen or next to a turbolift, because all bridges have a viewscreen and turbolift.

I reviewed "Tides of Change" today and it had a bridge battle (2 wave spawn) where you take a turbo lift to the bridge and help a Fed captain against Klingon attackers. Cannot remember the author but a search on "Tides" should turn it up.

I was thinking more along the lines of manipulating Bridge Officers and other NPC's on the player's bridge rather than allowing the author to add/change objects on the bridge.

I'm going with a list of standard objects for interactions and standard positions for beam in and BO positioning used for the entire ship interior... while this would be a large scale undertaking I would think that the ship-interior design crew would have thought of these universal ship interior features long ago... and we have some of them already... ie. Trophy shelves and such... so I don't see it as a problem at all... I would expect these features to roll out in the future.

    LOL

    I feel your pain :p

Ya, the viewer needs to auto center on the spawn in point at start or at least on the map
    so you can see it.

Don't feel bad, I often am moving sliders all over the place looking for the map as well.
