If you could pick one voiceover to be redone...

If you could pick one voiceover to be redone and it wouldn't cost anyone any time at all, as if by magic, is there an existing voiceover or voiceover sample you think would be worth using your one and only free re-do?

If so, what about the voiceover would you prefer be different?

I hope no one is unhappy with the wonderful work Zeronius did as Rebecca Simmons. Doesn't have to be something obvious, however. Could be a stray bit of NPC chatter. Maybe you'd like it if there were more voices at the dabo table spliced in with Chase Masterson's. Maybe you wish the Klingon computer spoke Klingonese or insulted your honor.

Like I say, imagine it takes nobody any effort... but as a corollary of that, it has to be a place where there's already a sound cue in the game.

The Guardian of Forever, hands down. I'd want some sound wizard to create an audio schematic from the voice from the Original Series Episode to be able to make it say whatever we want.

    Guardian of Forever.

It sounded like Trevor from Whitest Kids You Know was narrating it.

I actually enjoyed that quality about it. It was awful in a cheesy way, just like most of TOS.
And now I'm humming the music bit from the Shoshon the Elegant sketch... Thanks.
For my pick, I'd trash Quinto in the tutorial. He did a terrible job. Though to be fair, after listening to it several times, it sounds more like bad direction that it was bad acting. But still, it needs improved terribly.

Quinto was very dry too but I suspect his voice direction was to be a calm, steady, reassuring, chamomile-inducing EMH program.

QFT. Sounds like he made the character sound the way they wanted him to sound. Not everything can be spot on to please the crowd eh?

Quintos. I'd love to have the doctor or barcly in the game.

quintos, i have no problem with him personally but he played it too straight and robotic.

i kind of liked the guardian. it was so bad it went all the way back to good and felt very TOS.

Guardian of Forever. It was like South Park's Al Gore only without the lisp.

I also found it weird that Spock was the one hailing us from the Enterprise. One would expect it to either be Uhura or Kirk. Plus it was a really phoned in piece of audio.

"Since before your sun burned hot, I have awaited...a voice"

sice cbs has the rights, presumably, it would've been easy to lift the Guardian and use it in the Gateway mission

yep it sounded quite poor, forget phoning it in, i think he may have literally done it over the phone.

it does not help the fact his voice has changed so much and yet we are meant to be hearing the old spock. its kind of jarring.

Yeah, the difference in his voice plus the incredibly odd cadence just made it sound silly. Moreover, the phraseology is as though you're having a conversation with him when there's no response from you. "I am not unfamiliar with time travel, Captain." Uh, great, but I didn't say anything to you. I told my BO not to respond. Well, rather, my BO "recommended" we not respond and I didn't contradict her because I'm not allowed to.

Lol that is a really bad idea. Can you imagine what would happen with those computers after insulting a klingons honor?

Yeah....flying with broken computers would be a bit problematic.

Zachary Quinto in the tutorial as the Medical Hologram. I have a feeling he hadn't done much voicework prior to this, as his delivery often sounds like he's reading the script (as opposed to acting in character); and it gets to the point were some of it sounds like he's doing a straight book to tape reading.

I have no complaints about the voice actors(least favorite is Quintos but just because he is from the new movie and I dont like it(I dont want a new Spock or Kirk)).

The lack of voices in the game bothers me a bit tbh.The NPCs should have at least a few versions of Greetings,Welcome,Hello and the borg should always say something like:We are the borg.Resistance is futile(not just in STFs,in the movies they never forgot to introduce themselves). When I order BOs to move I want to hear something like:as you wish captain,on my way etc.(at least 4 different versions).

Instead of more expensive voice actors for 1-2 sentences cryptic should just hire 5-8 cheap but ok 1s for such simple tasks that would be a good step in the right direction.

Guardian of Forever if i take into consideration that no effort would be needed.

In reality though, none. It does take effort and it's effort better spent getting new voiceovers. Besides, compared to some of the European based adventure games i've played the Guardian of Forever is like hearing Richard Burton whisper sweet nothings in your ear.

I figured out how to do audio mods is why I asked and was thinking about making a voice pack. So far, I've just started replacing the music with my own library of Trek music but I can't really share that.

I do have access to public domain recordings of some songs that were considered for Trek. For instance, Holst's The Planets and The Firebird, which were considered for inclusion in ST VI. I was thinking about putting out an audio pack of those since the songs are clearly public domain and some of the armed forces bands (The USAF in particular) are ceded to the Public Domain. (It's a bit more complicated for the USMC.)

But anything where the rights are even a little grey, I wouldn't release.

I tried rerecording the Guardian but while I think my take is an improvement, it still isn't the original and for some odd reason I keep sleeping back into my Data impression, mostly when I try to hit that nasal quality the original actor had. I can do an Ian McKellen or George Takei style deep voice and I can do nasal but hitting both at once is tricky.

Meanwhile, when I try rerecording Quinto's lines, my recording quality isn't quite as clear. Listening to the raw version of his VO, it's very clear that it was a quality studio production. My take there has a bit more inflection while remaining honestly fairly Vulcan but I find myself thinking that the combination of Vulcan and being an EMH really makes it a challenge to tap some of the humor in the lines, which comes out more when I try for more of a McCoy-style reading or (and this may sound wacky), a bit more of a Nathan Fillion take.

Really, though, trying to engage the material as an actor, the lines are begging for some Robert Picardo sass and it's difficult to get that in as a Vulcan.

Quinto, as stated by everyone else here. He was barely passable in JJTrek, and he's God-awful in STO. Cryptic should have never paid money to get him.

Also, leave the Guardian alone. It may not be original, but it's got a nostalgic corny/cheesy feel to it that nails what the Guardian felt like in TOS. Who's to say the Guardian had to always use the same voice, since it has access to all of time to find a new one. Maybe voice impressions are how it amuses itself. :p

I thought The Guardian's voice acting was kinda bad. I don't consider the cheesy presentation to be an homage to TOS, as that presupposes that TOS was cheesy.* :p But in all seriousness, I think the Guardian could have been done differently.

Maybe it's because I've only done the tutorial like, once, but I thought Spocklar did a decent job playing a personality-less hologram, which isn't a knock against him..but I did get cool/cold EMH vibes from him. Like someone else said, I did think it was strange that Spock hailed my ship rather than Uhura..but I understand that they had access to Nimoy, so hey..why not. Maybe it was Uhura's day off.

The rest of the voice work I've had no problem with it's quality. I do like how it's used infrequently rather than being obnoxious with it, but it does scare the TRIBBLE out of me when someone does speak...it occurs so infrequently. Like "Gah!" jump from the keyboard kinda startle.

    * It might look kinda cheesy now but TOS wasn't trying to be campy. ;)

I actually like Qunto's EMH. (heck I didn't even relize it was him the first few times I played!)

But the Guardian of Forever hands down needs to be reworked. I was looking forward to playing this mission to hear the "voice" but was appaled at how bad it was. I have fond memories of that episode and the voice. I would rather them do sound bites from the episode.
