From what I've seen all new copies of sto come with 30 free days of game play. you still do need to stick a credit card to start it but you wont get charged unless you go over your 30 days.
If anyone else knows for sure...please pipe in...I must play this game!!! I've only got cash...that's why I'm wondering, so digital is a no go at the moment. Target has copies...so I just want to make sure that if I pick up the 10 dollar one, I'll be able to play.
Thanks for all the responses...but the truth is I am not looking for a cheaper copy...I'm fine with the price. I'm just trying to confirm whether or not the 10 dollar version will include the 30 days, as I want to play today, but don't get paid until Thursday.
You need a credit/debit card thou - Amazon doesn't like Paypal. You will receive the retail key instantly after the online purchase. The client will DL and undate in like half a day or so (someone should really update the STO client torrent).
The retail key gives you 30 days free. If you purchase the Digital Delux version you will receive an other 30 days free. So you can get 60 days for $7.5 instantly. No shipping and waiting.
To answer the question, yes, the box includes 30 days free. You would still need to specify a payment option during the activation, thou.
Just so you know: You'll need a credit card to register fully, despite getting the free 30 days with the retail code.
You can cancel the card payment straight afterwards though, so you're not automatically billed when your time is up. I'd recommend deleting the card from your account after cancelling it, as a few folk have found themselves billed regardless.
I'm Baaa-aaaack. I have one more question regarding this subject. I bought a copy from Target for 10 bucks. So now I'm wondering. Can I purchase the five dollar copy and the two dollar fiddy copy and stack an additional two months onto the time I have already, or, can I just buy the digital copy now since I have the box copy? I want to purchase today, so any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

i dont think time stacks. although there was talk about it when the game first went live that some people did do that.
the problem is that i think you will need to register each purchase after the last one expires.
dont quote, and if a dev pipes in and rails your knuckels for this thread, you never heard a peep out of me.

Now back with the original $49 retail release, the 30 Day of game time per package DID STACK. (along with the various Vendor's Perks...) with the exception of the Lifetime sub, which effectively annulled all the other package times (a mute point...)
So unless there was a change in policy, (and an announcement that I've missed), different packages, and packages with different Vendor's perks should stack their game time....
Thank you very much. I am about to purchase now. Is there something special I have to do, like activate them, or will it just update automatically? How do I tell that it has stacked?
I currently have the box copy, bought from Target. Are you saying that if I buy the Digital Deluxe copy, it still won't stack. Cause it sounds like your arguement was that you were trying to use another box copy. I won't be doing that.
MY understanding, and its entirely possible that billing has 'fixed' this loophole based off forum postings, is that you can have 1 of each 'flavor' of the basic retail box on your account(from retailers like walmart, target, amazon, etc) After that you can then have 1 each of the digital versions (basic and collectors) from each online vendor (I am assuming that with this it has to be vendors that received some form of unique preorder type item and as such have a specific range of cd keys) It has been stated for a while now, and no I cannot source where and when because I don't recall, that you cannot have 2 of the SAME type of key on your account and gain the 30 days (IE: I buy 2 shiny Collectors Ed. I can only get the 30 days from 1 of them on my account). I would say this is the case here, because otherwise what would keep a person from dropping $15 bucks and getting 6 months of gameplay? THAT would quickly cause policy changes to go into place.
from what I understand the same box from the same distributor will not stack. As in you cant get two collectors from amazon to stack or two retail boxes from target to stack. You can stack a digital deluxe from amazon, d2d and steam though at least I did the last one like 3 days ago.
I started with a digital download from steam and then was bouncing back and forth on my sub since I couldn't find a reason to stick around. I picked up the game again in november reactivated with a amazon collectors. Then Iate december I got a target retail box sadly no t166 gun or whatever its called still trying to get that. I also stacked both the amazon digital downloads when I found out about them a week ago. On saturday I added d2d digital download also to get the Frengi they had it for 7.50. So far im up to April. I still want the trs-116 gun thing but I think im boned on that unless can find a collectors or maybe the thing will stack because its an code.
As for why some are not stacking I have no idea maybe they fixed something but I'm guessing it may have to do with the boxes. Im guessing the first boxes that came with a special item may have had a code that was flagged as different ie best buy, walmart and target. while the new ones dont they just show up in the database/system as retail box regardless of were you got them. The digital copies maybe the same thing. They may register in the database in the same way as special edition do and there for work distinguish themselves depending on retailer.
Different versions of the game from the same retailer stack. Same versions from different retailers stack. This is how you get the different pre-order items. I can confirm personally that the 2 download versions from Amazon stacks to 60 days. This was last week though maybe they've changed it in the last few days.

The 30 free days from the $5 DD and 30 free days from the $2.5 Retail versions stack. So you need to buy both for a total of $7.5 to get 60 free days.
