Small Diplomacy/Crew Gripes

The diplomacy missions are great, a little repetative, but still great and a nice break away from constant missions that deal with combat and its a great challenge to try and get all the way up to the Ambassador rank.

I have a few "problems" with diplomacy, of course, and wondered if anyone else ever felt the same way or concur with what I have to say.

First, it just doesn't feel like enough of a challenge when I happen by a diplomacy mission in a cluster/belt/nebula. What I mean is this-

One planetside mission is that a probe fell from orbit and now must beam down to gather the data, BUT we have to be careful because there is a pre-warp civilization settlement near the wreckage and of course, because of the Prime Directive, must be careful not to be seen by the locals.
Excellent.
Only.... there are no locals! You have no freakn' worries about running into this supposive pre-warp civilization. You can run around the whole map without running into anyone!

At least put small groups of people around so that I have to make an effort to sneak around and not be caught. And if you do get caught, mission failed, civilization warped in some way now thanks to you.

Another planetside mission is gathering a type of data or information on certain structures on the planet, as soon as you scan the first one, you find out that the scan has actually hastend the deterioration of all the other structures. So hurry and scan them all before you lose valuble information!
Wait... there's no timer. I can take my sweet time running around the whole map again because I actually don't have to worry about time running out.
Woudn't this make a bit more sense?

(Maybe this is the case on elite mode, since I'm always running on easy, so I dunno)

My absolute favorite ones are First Contact missions. Man, these are so much fun and I'm glad they put these in (not being sarcastic).

But, dammit... argh! It just bothers me so much how I don't have the crew I actually want (and even specifically created) for these First Contacts in my ship's observation lounge.

I do have a "first officer". He is the first BO I ever got from the very begining of the game but I NEVER hear from this guy at all! And I'd want him to be there giving me the information I need and pointers about these FC missions.
For some flipp'n reason, my science officer debriefs me, wtf?

I have also created a different science officer that is specifically my counselor (good for first contact missions I'd wager), but he's never there either.

I dunno, Cryptic, can we set specific titles and jobs for our BO's other than just universal tac/eng/sci roles?

Overall, this game is great and has been getting better. It just really gets to me about not being able to completly customize my crew.

It is hilarious when my Andorian Tactical Officer is the one giving my pointers on diplomacy, or even when my Breen is talking to attaches. They are the last people I want in the room! lol

I do see my First Officer in there from time to time, plus I have a character picked out as my personal Yeoman that shows up too which is good to see. But it is like being on my bridge, I have created each character with a specific role/position in mind, and they rarely sit in the assigned station.

It is a small gripe, but hopefully this is fixed in Season 4.

My largest gripe about Diplomatic Missions is when you accept one from Jiro and then hostiles show up in the map that voids the diplomatic xp. Kinda defeats the purpose...

Overall most of the missions in the exploration areas are weak and are in Terrible need if being rewritten or completely deleted.

One if the thing that really bugs me are when for example we get a mission to scan ancient ruins. My BoFF never seems to remember that we scanned those same ruins on planet xxxxx. At least make them half way intelligent to the point that my BoFF says "Sir we are picking up readings of an ancient civilization. They are similar to those we recorded in system xxxx. It would seem this race inhabited multiple worlds. Blah blah blah. "

Or that satellite one. If we are exploring this place for the first time then why do we have bases and old broken down satellites here?

But I digress. Back to the main point. The quests they've created specifically for the diplomacy system I loooooved. I want more Hehe. Using those brainless scan 5 of these or the rest of the grind makes the path almost unbearable.

I'm excited dstahl mentioned that the foundry will eventually be used to create exploration missions. I wonder if it will also be used to create diplomacy missions.
