You're absolutely right: My choice of words in my thread entitled "This explains so much" did violate the forum guidelines. However, I do feel the option of closing the entire thread for a single word which could have easily been edited out was a bit much. Of course, that is my opinion and you're more than welcome to moderate your forums in any way you see fit.
However, my original post was worded something like this:
"I find it rather telling that Cryptic doesn't want to hear what we think they're doing wrong" and then went on to involve a colorful metaphor for sycophancy.
Again, you're more than welcome to moderate your forums in any way you see fit, but removing the former when the latter was the actual violation? If you ask me, you're just underscoring my point far better than I could.
I greatly anticipate your form-letter response thanking me for my enthusiastic support of your game.
one of the reasons, if not the sole reason they closed your post is because you started off with i cancelled my account.
that is basically an i quit post and i quit posts are not allowed. they will close any i quit posts because they often descend into flaming and tend not to be constructive. it their rules and they stick to it. the other violation probably was not enough to get the post closed.
there may have been other violations in the post/thread that got edited but that is the heart of the matter.
i should also inform you that talking about moderation is also not allowed and they will close this as well. dont take it personally, again its just the rules they set down.
if you want to leave feedback in the future or now then dont say i cancelled my account (although i appreciate one of the points was about the lack of an option to give feedback via the cancellation screen.)
It's not constructive to beat down paying costumers by censoring them when they're pointing out flaws with the product they're paying for. This means they actually want to buy your product, otherwise why bother to point out problems?
So basically because I said I wasn't continuing my subscription and have an issue with the moderation of the forum, everything I have to say is considered invalid and not reasonable grounds for discussion?
So basically because I said I wasn't continuing my subscription and have an issue with the moderation of the forum, everything I have to say is considered invalid and not reasonable grounds for discussion?
Wow.
I quit threads are generally the posts people make to complain about the game before they leave. That's why they're closed. They're people's last gasp of "I told you so" before they're gone. It accomplishes nothing.
So if it is so boring, what would make it interesting? What would YOU consider to be exciting and new? Why not try suggestiions instead of critizisms.
I didn't say it was boring, I said it was tedious. But since you bring it up, I can toss out some suggestions.
Borg shouldn't be allowed to assimilate when they're more than 5 meters away. 5 meters is a stretch too, but it's far more reasonable than the 8 to 12 I've been experiencing.
Ground missions shouldn't just be "scan X of these interesting trees/rocks/artifacts" or "kill Y groups of bad guys"
Ground combat shouldn't be the attrition-fests that they are. I mean, really. Letting an enemy that can't possibly kill you restore its shields so taking it down takes five minutes shouldn't be. Make bosses a little harder, and the underlings should fall before me like autumn leaves or something.
So basically because I said I wasn't continuing my subscription and have an issue with the moderation of the forum, everything I have to say is considered invalid and not reasonable grounds for discussion?
Wow.
No but threads that state that this game is bad I quit goodbye very quickly turn into.
"This game sucks"
"This game is great"
"Get a job hippy!"
"Learn to READ!"
Ect. also that they're not constructive. Generally a better way to go about it is "This and this is bad, this needs work but these two areas are good as is". It also helps to stay away from the insulting side of criticism. Very few artists, or engineers or writers ever got better from the comment "This sucks, fix it".
So basically because I said I wasn't continuing my subscription and have an issue with the moderation of the forum, everything I have to say is considered invalid and not reasonable grounds for discussion?
Wow.
basically yes because you broke the rules. it might seem harsh but its the rules and they stick to it. they have to be consistent as well. they say they will close them and they close every single one regardless of what is currently in it, basically because the first few that happened were just vile rants by people. those early i quit posts ruined it for everybody.
like i said to you and to everyone reading this next time leave out the fact your leaving or the fact you have a problem with the mods and just give the hard facts as to what you dont like about the game or what you would like to see improved. thats perfectly fine.
they have to close threads that are i quit posts, many people here will agree they have to. if you have been here as long as i have you will know virtually none of them end well and they would all have to be closed for the usually trolling of 'can i haz your stuff' and 'go back to wow' comments. or the initial post itself is just a rant. im not saying yours was but whether you realise it or not you broke a rule on their website. and as yours is the opening post the entire thread goes downhill from the start. even if your thread is really constructive they have to be consistent.
they did used to have a thread sticked explaining all this but they took it down. they should put it back up for people to read so at least the rules are clear.
I didn't say it was boring, I said it was tedious. But since you bring it up, I can toss out some suggestions.

I don't suppose this was a particular Borg mission where you had to infiltrate a cube was it? Because that one can be really bad if you do it wrong.
Also I agree with the scan 5 ground things but actually I've seen a small improvement with that, when I scanned the fourth thing in one instance and suddenly random enemies beamed in all around me and I was suddenly in the middle of a fight.
Oh and Dstahl said that no new ground improvements are coming for a while because season 4, the next one in a few months, is going to completely overhaul ground combat. Supposedly every single weapon in the game is getting changed as well as some mechanics.

Then I guess I'll be back in a few months.
Also: I get it, I broke the rules and breaking the rules is bad. But you cannot deny that completely ignoring otherwise legitimate complaints because I chose to start out with "I canceled my subscription" is completely ludicrous. It's not as though the tone of my post was "I quit, (colorful metaphor here)!" It was "when I quit, I never got the option of explaining why. Which is ridiculous. Here's why."
So basically because I said I wasn't continuing my subscription and have an issue with the moderation of the forum, everything I have to say is considered invalid and not reasonable grounds for discussion?
No, that's not what it means. It just means the thread is invalid and gets closed.
Remove the "I Quit" and "discussing moderation" aspects and everything left is potentially valid and reasonable grounds for discussion. Create a thread with those topics, and it probably won't be closed (barring other rules-violating behavior.)

it would be ludicrous to ignore the feedback. no one said they do that though. for all we know your post has been read, acknowledged and printed off ready to be presented with another half a dozen posts for the devs to discuses after the holidays.
And so you create another thread that violates forum rules.
They're not censoring you, there's plenty of negative threads on these boards.
Well, I tried to turn the thread positive, and the OP even complied. Yet other posters could NOT move forward, as they continued to harp on past posts. Really, if you do not want a thread to be negative then you need to make positive posts to it.

so then if your entire point was to enlighten the devs and the powers that be. Why then did you post on a vacation week and major national/international holiday?
Who do you think is going to be around to actually read anything you have to say?

It is commendable that you are attempting to restore forum faith in your position. I am sorry that other posters to your thread refuse to allow you to move forward and continuly slam you without any regard for your origional intent with this post.

This isn't a chat room, it's a discussion board. If you miss it the first time, you can catch the 5:30 bus and show up later.
No, that only works if the topic stays. And as youve seen they dont.
So it seems to me, less about a manifesto to the devs, and more about a stealth rant during a time of lax moderation.
You credit me with an overabundance of forethought. Basically it went down like this:
"Ugh, these Borg missions make the game worse. I think I'll take some time off, maybe they'll fix ground combat while I'm gone. Wow, they don't seem to care about why a person might cancel their subscription. I'll bring it up in the forums. Hey, they locked my thread. I'll have a knee-jerk reaction to that!"
The badness I'm hearing about the Borg missions is really disappointing.
I only returned a couple of weeks ago, with my new toon at Capt3 right now, and all the Admirals in my fleet have been groaning about the awful Borg ground combat, which is a real shame, as I was so looking forward to finally facing the Borg when the time came.

There are a couple things to look forward to. There's a mission with a fun premise ruined only by the terrible Borg combat, but if you can just suck it up and deal with it, it's actually pretty cool.
Arriving in the Gamma Orientabahuasglsjdafwhatever sector block is really cool too the first time you do it.

Hopefully I'll find most of it good enough to make the bad bits worth grinding through.
So...the next time you get angry, stop and think before you come on the forums and make an angry post. Actions made in anger are rarely the "right" ones.
You have to always keep moving to the side by strafing when fighting the Borg in the explorer missions. Or just keep moving backward to keep the ones beaming in in front of you. You will fight them across almost the whole map but it works. You can't stop moving.

I think there were two good points made in the thread, that each might deserve their own topic:
- Better feedback options when cancelling a subscription.
- Ground Combat is very repetitive and grindy without being interesting.
Nothing is really new, I suppose.
Wow.

Delicious cupcakes are now available in Ten Forward...
Cupcakes? YAY?!
*Runs over to Ten Forward*
Did you get a lump of coal or something? Quit harassing the guy, he said he was sorry.

I'm flying by the seat of my pants here.

Agreed. Especially with the arrival of the new sector space. To see those Borg cubes against the dark backdrop of space is rather intimidating.
Again I agree. And I feel this is becoming more and more the case. There are still some duds out there. But they are becoming the minority.
So...the next time you get angry, stop and think before you come on the forums and make an angry post. Actions made in anger are rarely the "right" ones.
