does anyone else find the effect for the aegis deflector a bit tacky? I think the overall glow the shields adds to your ship is awesome but the deflector effect just bugs me. It looks like im traveling with high beams on or a giant ice cream cone attached to my ship....
the deflector effect can be tacky but it depends on the ship.... on some ships it looks pretty good...
I would say it looks best on the classic trek style ships where the saucer hangs over the secondary hull and deflector... on the ships where the ship is more streamlined and the deflector dish is up front, then it looks tacky as hell !

I rather like it on my Luna, Magellan, and Hephaestus. Not so much the Excelsior, or Nomad. (In the case of the Excelsior, it's more than the "cone" is somehow distorted for some reason.). I'll have to break out the Sovreign to see how it looks there.
I turned my own off, but I still have to see them everywhere all around me because all the tweens think it is wicked looking. Great.
Turbine actually had the game looking a lot like Trek for about 2 weeks, after the sector space revamp, and now it looks like some sort of neon nightmare.
We need an option to disable them totally, so we don't have to see all that silly looking mess everywhere.
Also, I find the shield effect to be quite nice. It gives the ships some nice, clean lines that glow. Who could argue with that?
As for the deflector, it looks decent on a few select ships, but I perfer not having it on at all. The jury (for me) is still out on whether or not I like the impulse trails. Until I decide I DON'T like them, I'll leave them on.
What I don't like is the look of the Borg console on the Luna class. There are four nodes glued onto my aft section right next to each other (almost on top of each other, actually). It just looks ridiculous.

I think the dish effect would be nice if it only was visible when the dish was being used.
well indeed it is always on but in the shows and films we are used to it only has other effects extending beyond itself when doing something specific for a short period..energy transfers and other things.
the effect is great but it being on all the time ruins the immersion somewhat..thats all im saying...im not going to go into a nerd rage or an "i quit thread" ..just saying maybe a little tweak would be nice

Quite, for me, the effect on the dish is 'too big' for a passive graphic. If it was something that occured during an active event, that's different.
Consider how ... annoying the shield effect (set bonus) visual would be if it was constantly up, instead of only up when the buff was firing off.

oh wow, i didnt know you could do that! thanks my friend!

This is not LOTRO.

Vuvuzela... In space!
Now, if the impulse effects created solid "energy barriers" that enemy ships could run into and blow themselves up on...
But, then I guess they'd also have to give the engines +infinity to turn rate so we can nail those 90-degree turns.
so right click it and turn it off....

I just wanted to adress the issue, because I don't think its supposed to look like that.
