STF PUG's: Freind or Foe?

So... Today I decided to try out PUG teams for both Khitomer Accord and The Cure.

Now usually I feel sick even at the thought of having even a single PUG member in my group, because in my expirience, PUG teams usually ends up with at least one of the team members bailing, leaving the rest with alot of time wasted and not getting anywhere, or even worse: The PUG members know little or nothing about the mission and don't take direction from expirienced people.

So, while being a little affraid that I would spend hours on essencially nothing, I picked up all my regular STF Gear and headed to Gamma.

Since I've already completed all the Borg STF's, I decided to go backwards (KA, Cure and if there was time Infected), also because it seems that the hardest Borg STF mission to get people for is KA, I expected to be waiting quite a while untill a team formed.

At first it seemed I was right... Only one other player was present around Quadra Sigma. So I took up position and waited...

Now here comes the first part that I was amazed of: It took about 30 Seconds and I was invited... Pretty amazing...
Next it only took about 4 mins to get a team together, and we entered the map.

After a small Q&A about what would happen (we had a guy with us who hadn done it before) we went straight on fighting. I was actually sure the first one would bail at this point...
But no one did, and only 7 minutes later we'd beaten the C*ap out of the initial space part, and only 5 mins later we landed on Vorn.

About 2 (perhaps 3) hours later we completed the mission. Everything had gone smoothly except for a bug that prevented me to take part in the final battle (I was stuck at Vega and could'n warp ""I am not the only one who has expirienced this btw... FIX IT Cryptic... ").

After taking a little RnR and watching "Madagascar" with my son, I decided to take a shot at The Cure.

I was 100% sure that this would be EPIC fail at the Second Gate... But... WTH... We passed the gate.. and even in the first try... and 2 of our members had'n even done it before.

Ok... So I admit it was a little harder than I am used to, but after some time we beat that one too... With 2 Brand new Cure players, that weren't aware that the Chatbox was a required "Remember to look at", that should be no surprise, but we completed it dispite of that.

Now... After today, I belive that my preconseptions of PUGs are somewhat gone. In fact I might start running PUG teams on a regular basis, but one has to wonder: When did it change, and are there still horrible PUG's out there?

Share your thoughts.

I envy you much. There are many more bad pugs then good ones and it looks like you got the lucky. How I wish pugs would be like this, decent players that work as a team. Unfortunately, there are simply too many opinionated people out there that believe "their" way is the only way.

I did a PUG infected yesterday and It went suprisingly smooth. My theory is that the borg sets are bring some of the non fleet casuals out of the woodwork to play as a team.

No thank you. Cryptic has changed the ability to gain VA tokens by completing the lower level STF missions, so I don't need more Valor points. Before all the alternative emblem daily missions were in game, sometimes we would run Infected as a daily to get emblems, now players will only wind up doing it once per character. Any more would be just to help friends get their Borg items. Having a fleet on a voice chat server just makes them so much more tolerable than trying to PuG it out and type. But, congratulations on a successful PuG run.

It's only because the serious players are trying to get their borg loot. Once those players have gotten equipped on all their toons, we'll be back to the same problem as before.

So it seems the general opinion is that it is a tempoary thing... How sad :(

it looks to me that you have been lucky,

most of the PUG runs i did in the past wear epic fails. BUT und rare occasions i have the luck to get a pug team that is listening and smart.

dont get me wrong i have got nothing against pugs and other people playing this Game it is only i have not had much luck on geting a good team togeather.

What i hate most is that we are playing with other real life people...I don't understand how so many have so little common sense
