Hey I was just thinking today. Why not implement a Arena/Tournament system like WoW has. You could have brackets for different team sizes (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5) in addition to Fed vs Fed, Fed vs KDF, KDF vs KDF and FFA.
Winners could get special prizes, titles, trophies, etc.
3) More PVP modes! (Free for All, King of the Hill, Capture the Flag, Bomb Defusal, Hostage Rescue and so much MORE!
4) An official PVP channel aside from the player moderated one. One that every player can see upon creating a new character.
5) Re-vamp of the "old" Tier 5 ships i.e. Assault Cruiser, Star Cruiser, Advanced Escort...
By revamp I mean give them powers similar to what the retrofits have... Advanced Escort could get Multi-vector Assault... there's a lot of potential right here
6) Crew needs to be able to gain experience when fighting in a pvp match; my proposal in my signature could be looked at and expanded...
7) Ground needs to be made more attractive; the revamp should address this.
8) Finally, OPEN PVP. Or if that's too hard... more WARZONES, similar to the one I have in my sig. I'm sure many more could be created...
Yes, despite the game's massive success, the developers are extremely aware that they've made mistakes, says Pardo. The lack of a proper Looking For Group tool was something he was "really unhappy" to not have at launch, and that tool is only now coming five years later in Patch 3.3. Aside from all of the technological errors like having too few servers at launch to keep up with the demand, Pardo thinks that the single greatest mistake as far as design of the game is concerned was the choice to introduce competitive "e-sports" into the game via Arenas.
"I'm not sure that that was the right thing to do with the game ... we just added it on, so it continues to be very difficult to balance. Is WoW a PvE cooperative game, or a competitive PvP game? ... I don't think we ever foresaw how much tuning and tweaking we'd have to do to balance it in that direction. Either I'd go back in time to before WoW ever shipped and change the rules to make the basic game more conductive for being an e-sport, or if not that, just say it doesn't make sense. Right now, WoW has a bit of a schizophrenic philosophy behind it, and we're trying to figure out how to guide it."
I've never played WOW, what is the difference between arenas there and in STO?
I wonder if WOW makes PVP more attractive, and also rewards the winners of a match with something more valuable than STO.
Anywho, I think more is definitely better. ATM we have 3 Arena Maps, 1 Cap and Hold map... that's a grand total of 2 pvp types and 4 maps in space atm.... at this point, anything new is better. When the Ground Re-vamp comes, I hope a pvp reward, map and mode re-vamp is in the works too..
It's not so bad in 5v5 arenas, but in 2v2 and 3v3 in wow, class balance is a huge issue. Back when I stopped playing wow, IIRC warrior+druid was a killer combination, and that of course locks out everyone who isn't a warrior or a druid (which is the majority of players) from the really competive stuff, so people end up complaining and the devs try to stop that combination by nerfing classes. Unfortunately, a new combination pops up so we go through that all over again.
While this is going on, people who don't do the arenas get affected by the nerfs as well, the boss you used to be able to kill easily is now much more difficult because someone complained that your skill you usually use is too OP in the arena, so you end up annoying not just people who want to arena, but people who don't want to as well. Just before I left wow, they nerfed the pve warrior dps build in favour of the pvp build, a change which I believe was reverted in the next expansion, and I was not happy about it. (there were some conspiracy theories that one of the devs who admitted to having a warrior to play in arenas did it to give himself an advantage, something I don't find too far-fetched)
We basically end up with the devs spending way too much time rebalancing classes and annoying half the playerbase to keep the other half happy.

So, all that I could gather was that the arena's WOW has are exactly like STO's. In which case I would hope Blizzard had the foresight to continue to add maps to their Arenas. PvP is a lot of fun, and it needs much more development. I am confident that it will arrive, simply hopefull that Season 4 will contain some more pvp maps..

WOW only has 6 battlegrounds and then 5 PvP arenas.
However, a few of the world zones have open pvp content (i.e. Burning Crusade's starting region and Wintergrasp).
The trick is that WoW's battlegrounds are more dynamic than STO's C&H or Assault Modes. Granted, people would love to see more PvP content but I doubt much is in the pipe due to the heavy PvE focus. of Featured Series, Foundry, and STFs. It could be a more engaging and dynamic aspect of the game and totally justify having a "PvP faction" but it's ultimately found wanting at the end of the day.

Which means we should have 20 minutes of expositional dialogue and heavy-handed just-war ethics debates before blowing up the entire nursery full of borg babies.

MMMmmmmm.... crispy with a slightly metalic taste. Just the way I like them!

1-yes
2-yes, perhaps not by emblem hunting though
3-yes, but we need more pvp'ers to support more queues
4-this already exists with S3 update. Upon entering a pvp queue, all players get added to channel PVPMatch_01.
5-probably will happen someday, Not as important as 1,2, 3
6-more experience? All mine are max everything and I have nearly 1M merits to spend leveling new BO
7-I belive they are working on this for S4 release.
8-yes, yes yes. Hopefully that won't ruin queues for classic 5v5 matches though.

Nice brief & succinct recap Greatmaker69.
Picard killed a lot of borg that way. He was like: "yeah, there are kids aboard and even people like me once but they started it."
For as cool and calm a character he was supposed to be, he sure did make some decisions that suprised me.
