Every time there is an article about STO on MMORPG.com it gets bashed pretty hard. Of course, thats to be expected and alot of it is just trolling rather than actual discussion. However, for the genuine reader who may have never tried the game, it may make a difference in whether they do or not. So if you appreciate the progress that has been made since launch and are enjoying the game now, say so here:

No thanks. Arguing against people who don't like X never accomplishes anything. For every person who will say "I enjoy playing it. It has its fun moments" there'll be a dozen who will trash it just to trash it: and many of them have never even played it and are just trashing it to trash.

You dont have to argue at all. You can simply say how you feel and leave it at that. But if you dont want to thats fine to. Its just nice to have some people who enjoy the game representing that side of the coin for people who read the comments.

I tried to do this for some time. I would point out the haters and ask them to stop and let people who enjoyed the game enjoy a thread in peace. For my efforts I got perma-banned. I am not kidding, I did not at any time use foul lagnuage all I did is laugh at haters and their perdictability.

Do not waste your time with MMORPG, the site is a joke with TRIBBLE reviews based on conjecture rather than actual play time in many cases. As for STO the site openly supports the game being bashed and has since it was released.

I hate to say it, but you had the wrong strategy. Arguing one on one with people isnt going to work. Just state how you feel about the game, and if you want end your post with a little remark like I did that makes people who are trolling look silly :D

I was really referring to arguing against the idea. For each voice of "reason" there will be many more voices of descent. He said/She said just doesn't work that well in hostile environments.

I'm enjoying the hell out of this game, and I take every opportunity to say so.

To add to the discussion already taking shape in this thread, though, I will qualify that by saying that when I post on a message board or add to the comments on an online article I am usually reaching out to those who have not yet tried Star Trek Online, not arguing with those who have already made up their minds about it. I speak out because I want the interested, uninitiated gamer to have a fair understanding of the game and to know that STO has a lot to offer.

I love this game, and i don't need to go to another site to say so. The people who wish to bash it can do so as they please there. However, they come here to bash and i'll be ready with my shield and suit of armor :p

The simple fact that i brought an LTS last week shows exactly what i feel about this game. I'm here for the long journey ahead. STO gets a lot of flak because of its poor start, yet people assume nothing has changed. That is called ignorance and lack of knowledge, respect and understanding of where this game is currently at. Stahl and his team have been doing a great job in the last few months or so. I think 2011 will be the year to really push this game further. The foundations are starting to firmly set now, they just need to build and continually build from there.

I am enjoying the game quite well, in fact. But I don't see the need to register on a forum I don't frequent to do so. If the members there don't know me, my opinion won't have any weight and is likely to get buried where nobody will see it.

On another game-related forum I do frequent, I am actively promoting STO whenever I get a chance. There aren't many people there playing STO yet (the population is more superhero game oriented), but I have hopes it will eventually catch on.

I actually really enjoy this game. A lot.

Does it have flaws, yes. But overall, I can see it getting better and better with every patch and the weeklies were a stroke of genius.

When I hit level cap right before Season 2, I was tempted to cancel my account because I hated the STFs but after Season 2 hit, it's been nothing but awesome for me.

I think some people bash it because they view it as more of an MMO-lite. But that is the perfect thing for me because I can sit down and in half an hour feel like I accomplished something vs having to dedicate 4 hours to get anything done.

This game isn't for everyone but I do think it's a pretty awesome game.

Thats fine. However, MMORPG.com is the largest website of the genre, and as such is one many people read that are not active posters on the forum. Thats why I like to take the time to let anyone reading the article know there are people playing that enjoy the game.

Thank you Grand Nagus. This is what I said:

When I first heard about Star Trek Online, in the days of Perpetual Entertainment I already knew that translating STAR TREK into an MMO would be a feat that even Q could not handle right. Considering what could've been done and what Cryptic did and is still doing, I'm more than satisfied.

Yes, there are many flaws still and a lot of work to be done, but on the business and technology level of things, a company that can sell its original MMO franchise to its publisher and then create another MMO engine and launch two new MMO franchises that still entertain me, well what can I say? That company wins my financial support twice over with two Lifetime accounts for both CO and STO.

In the end, it's all a question of would you get your money's worth in entertainment value and after pouring subscription dollars into the entertaining gameplay mechanics of City of Heroes and City of Villains for 5 years straight, I love Cryptic to bits for actually offering Lifetime subscriptions to both CO and STO.

As always I call it like I see it. This is what I posted:

I am playing and I am loving it. I am fortunate, or unfortunate depending on your perspective, to have a very full life so I have been a relatively casual player from the start. This means I never ran into the lack of content that the hardcore players so often complained. The game has always been beutiful and the mechanics have also been pretty solid from the start. As time has passed the content continues to grow with very regular updates, enough so that even those critical of STO have been coming around and giving it more positive marks.

I still enjoy the game quite a lot, that does not mean that I am going to allow Cryptic to get complacent. Complementing all aspects of the game does not help the situation any more than complaining about every aspect of the game.

There have been great strides made to improving an already enjoyable game with many more to go.

true, both aspects need to be looked at.

if they do something well, compliment them. if they do something badly, let them know that too.

MMORPG.com has long been the bastion of hack jornalism for years. I myself got banned from the site about five years ago for daring to have a positive post about City of Heroes, which is something those clowns that think they're journalists could never do if it wasn't made by Blizzard. Of course, they didn't like the fact that I spent a whole 3 minutes proofreading one of their articles, and mailing to the editor-in-chief a version that A, had no typing errors, and B, was gramatically correct. :)

That being said, I've been enjoying this game with the same enthusiasm I once had for EverQuest, back in the days before it became LootQuest. I put in a good few hours each day, and have a lot of fun with it. Doesn't matter how many times I've done the same mission, it's still a challenge, and still fun.

For the most part, I have enjoyed my experiences in Star Trek Online.

The game can be quite fun during the leveling process, and headway has been made in the polish department.

However, the end game leaves a bit to be desired, and there are many features I'd like to see which have not been implemented, or, may never be implemented.

So I gave Champions Online a try, and have been enjoying that immensely for the past couple of days.

I will likely come back to STO at some point, perhaps when weeklies start up again, or when some of the features I really want to see (such as being able to use my Excalibur Class starship at Vice Admiral without becoming instant popcorn) get implemented.

I would certainly come back, if I have a reason too. But right now, I'm kinda bored with STO.

Would I recommend it as a good game? Sure, for people that just want to level. But not for people who are looking for substance beyond the final rank of the game.

So to answer the OP... I enjoy(ed) the game (while I was playing it. But right now, I'm not playing, thus the enjoyment is not there.

This is going to sound strange but STO is one of those games that, on paper, doesn't sound like it should be enjoyable but, in actuality, it is for me.

While I agree with the fact that this game gets more hate than it probably deserves, some of them do have a point. Certain things that were talked about being in this game while still in development still have not come to pass. And we are what, getting towards the first year anniversary in another quarter (unless we count closed/open beta). I'd still like to see those promises fulfilled. I still enjoy the game, but I can see why others have problems with it as well. Some of the more serious issues need to be addressed and not ignored or delayed until right around the corner of them coming out in the next seasonal upgrade.

    Hope this helps, somebody...

    Regards,
    -Grey
