Season 3?

Ok, so, Cryptic put out a lot of hype for Season 3, and so far it is not much. All the stuff that was supposed to be released with it, wasn't, and then there is the fact that for the last 3 days, STO has been taken down for "updating", and, from what I can see, not much updating has been done. And then there is the foundry, which I won't get into, but, lets face it. Foundry is not near as good as you hyped it up to be. So a few answers would be nice as to why Season 3 was so built up, but delivered so little?

... Foundry is not near as good as you hyped it up to be...

You mean the Foundry BETA. I disagree, I have been playing around with it and it shows great promise, I have a few stories lined up and concept tested on Tribble that can't wait to author and release once it's on the Holodeck.

Have to agree with the downtime so close to holidays though, personally I would prefer if they fixed Cold Case and then had a code freeze until after the holidays. I'm sure the Dev's and QA are keen to get home for Christmas and would hate to see any more discrepancies creep in at the last minute that can't be resolved until Jan...

I have to disagree. I delivered enough to warrent me becoming an LTS. And like i have mentioned in other threads, people complain about bugs and now they complain about fixes? Its a no win for Cryptic.

Foundry has so much potential, and as Agent Omega mentioned, it is a Beta. Am i disappointed that Season 3 didn't come with everything it said it would? Not at all. What we have so far has been great for me, and Season 3 will adapt over the coming months with so much more.
The way i look at content updates is not a one off. Season 3 is currently at a 3.1, and will end up being somewhere around the 3.4 area once everything is done. After any new content, expect downtime, especially when we are still in the first year of this game. I remember times in Vanilla Wow not being able to log on for an entire day/night after one patch. Nowadays this does not happen. Give Cryptic their dues, the fact they are continuing to push Season 3 with fixes and know when not to release unfinished content is a good thing. Imagine if Foundry had come out last week properly. Maybe had that happened, Season 3 for me may not have delievered. We have a working game (except for Cold Case :p) and a Tribble Test for Foundry. I think they did deliver a lot personally.

    Season (sea·son)
    • 1.
    • a. One of the four natural divisions of the year, spring, summer, fall, and winter, in the North and South Temperate zones. Each season, beginning astronomically at an equinox or solstice, is characterized by specific meteorological or climatic conditions.
    • b. The two divisions of the year, rainy and dry, in some tropical regions.
    • 2. A recurrent period characterized by certain occurrences, occupations, festivities, or crops: the holiday season; tomato season.
    • 3. A suitable, natural, or convenient time: a season for merriment.
    • 4. A period of time: gone for a season.

We mainly want number 4 in this case with a touch of 2.
Season 3 has just started and will end when Season 4 goes live.

Not a big fan of patchnotes, are you?

I got myself a nice shiny set of aegis gear, some borg equipment and a fancy runabout pet. It the best downtime since season 3!!

Also, 1 of the "3", STO was actually still online for those who were already logged in, it wasn't game-maintenance.

Today's patching is due mainly to fix exploits. You don't want other players out there exploiting and benefiting from a system you have even yet to discover? It's quite good that they fix it so promptly.

It will redefine the game once it gos live. It is some of there best work. It has got problem but that is why it is still in beta. Season 3 well 90% of that was asked for back in beta.

I would have to concur, when you take into account that other patches for other MMO's don't usually go this smoothly. It is truly amazing that Cryptic is on top of the curve in regard to immediate things that need to be tweaked (except for Cold Case for some reason :p).

they have delivered beyond my expectation in this regard. And they pay close attention to what the community tells them.....most MMO's do not.

If the OP had listened to even one interview by DStahl (and I believe he gave several) concerning what was to come in Season 3, he would find that they did in fact deliver - some of it early - and have continued to do so.

It seems that many people were expecting something different, but if they had actually been paying attention, they wouldn't have developed such faulty expectations.

What I heard the community call for was a fix to many issues that had existed since release. That was delivered. The Foundry was never supposed to be ready for the Season 3 release date, but instead it was hoped that the Beta version would be on Tribble by then. They delivered, albeit a few days later than projected. Some costumes and ships were scheduled. Many of them were delivered early. Season 3 has just begun, and they continue to make progress - Aegis and Borg components anyone?

I can't wait to see what is next.
