I was excited about STO when it was annouced it. I gave STO a chance to play for several months even played long enough to be real admiral. I find the game not the Star Trek universe I come to expect.
1st even though season 3 sector space has improved it's not give me the feeling of exploration. I was expecting star trek space to close like eveonline. except STO space looks like a board game. If you refer to book "Star Trek Star Charts: The Complete Atlas of Star Trek by Author Geoffrey Mandel" STO space should be endless and have over thousands worlds to explorer but I realize it will take cryptic some time to create all those worlds an maps but I feel I'm navigating in a box.
2nd I was expecting to walk the sidewalks of Star Fleet Academy as a cadet taking new mission from cadet instructors in class room then graduating to ESD to get a bigger ship starting as a lieutenant. 3rd On earth we should be able to walk around Star Fleet Headquarters in San Francisco and Federation Office in Paris receiving new mission from Federation Council, special mission from the president as well as missions from top brass.
4th the ship interiors is not accurate to the design of the ship and deep space K-7 interior is not accurate to the space station everything in STO stations are copy and paste nothing unique about each station. We should have the ability to control ships function in the engine room after all if ur engineer would it not make since plus if your is damaged in battle engineers should recieve skills points for repairs.
5th I hate not freely beaming down to any planets of your choosing you can only do it during mission play which makes exploration meaning less. Vulcan and risa are the only two planets of beaming in freely.
6th The Klingons don't have much territory to play in and if we are at war with them we should be able to engage ship in space sector or beam onto their ships which I still have not seen yet also crossing into klingion space would make the game more exciting as far as invasion.
7th Solar systems are just 1 planet for us to see they need to open solar systems to explore.
8th I would like to see more heroes like Worf, Captain Data, Ambassador Picard and much more.
9th Ive watched star Trek for 30 years and seen all series and movies, now if STO team really did their research like they said where are all the plants like Khitomer, Talos system, Nimbus 3, even the center of the galaxy, the great barrier, Taurus II, and many other others from the show and movies how none of these places are not in STO
I know STO is new I will give it credit for trying but attention to STO universe needs more detail. I don't think will make it to the choice awards.

1) Sector space can continued to be improved, in particular, Dan has expressed interest in removing the boundaries between sectors, but he admitted that would take new "tech" on their part so it won't be for some time.
2, 3, 7) They've expressed interest in expanding on the solar system and on Starfleet HQ
8) Worf is in a Klingon mission. Data will likely make a cameo appearance within the next half year (with the transition from the Enterprise E to F). We've also seen Icheb, Miral Paris, Naomi Wildman, and Leeta.
9) Limited resources. If Cryptic has an infinite number of monkeys and an infinite number of typewriters, maybe we would see those planets. But as it stands, they had to pick and choose which ones to initially include. Also, the Cryptic team has openly acknowledged how geeky they are when it comes to Trek, so I think you'd be wise to avoid implying otherwise. They even watch episodes regularly in the office. I'm sure everyone on the team would love to see the Galactic Barrier, Rura Penthe, Nimbus 3 (which btw, there's an easter egg referencing it on Drozana Station) or whatever their geek heart desires, but it's simply a matter of available resources. Notice they DID include plenty of relatively minor things (such as Iconians and Devidians, Wolf 359, or the Mutara Nebula)
Most everything you're pointing out here sounds like a case of very, very high expectations. (albeit, I remember my expectations were sky-high too before launch)

I've never understood the arrogant, self-important jerks who felt the need to change the color of the text in their posts.
I love it. If there was a way I could "like" a post, I would do it now. What is up with those jerks anyway? Especially the ones that change their font. Yeesh.
Also SHARKFORCE, why would you quote that? You're just perpetuating the problem! You just re-critted my eyes for 10k!

Well, if your eyes can actually read it, he *does* make a few good points. But it's the same points people have been making since Beta. So it's nothing that we have not either already thought, or have already read from another poster.
The game is what it is. If you don't like it you don't like it. Over the years I've bought, tried, and left dozens of games. Some I've gone back to several times. Some I never did. That's life. There's no such thing as one perfect game for everyone. If there was we'd all be playing WoW right now rather then sitting here.
So this is what a Gravity Well looks like in text. I was drawn in and completely ripped apart. I close my eyes and its still there.....arghhhhh! What have you done!?!

I do apologize for the red letters and font size my mistake, anyhow this is just my opinion of Star trek online from my point of view. I saw the replies to my first post and once again sorry for the color, font size and not breaking the msg into paragraphs. Anyway STO has potential and from the looks of season 3 updates they are on the right path. My opinion of STO is not to offend the game but point out a few mistakes Ive seen that effect me only. I care about Star Trek Franchise and been a fan since the 80's. Since nemeis, enterprise and no new releases of ST pc games the franchise has went down hill. Star trek 2009 movie brought the franshise back into light again and STO has added interactive feel to the ST universe. My fear from the reviews Ive read online and some key components missing may spell doom for the STO game. As I said this my own opinion.

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion. The hard part in any MMO based on established IP is dealing with expectations. Some of us are MMO vets and have MMO expectations. Some of us are Star Trek fans and have canon expectations. Some of us are both, and some of us are really only fans of a particular era of Trek. The hardest part is simply dealing with our own fears and coming to understand that it's really out of our hands. Cryptic can only do as much as they can do. The fans will either except that, and the game with thrive, or they won't accept that and the game will go the other way - probably toward the Hybrid F2P model. In the end all we can do is voice our opinions in a positive way and hope for the best.

Since you're not getting the joke let me spell it out for you.
The font size, shape and even color are fine. A bit annoying but not a real problem. The problem is that you don't use the [ENTER] key. All of your posts need more [ENTER] key.
Break your posts up in to paragraphs. Paragraphs are created by use of the [ENTER] key.
I think that I've explained it in a way that's much easier to understand now jakhanis, but if you still aren't quite sure what the problem is then feel free to PM me.

Ok! Issue fixed not sure if you rechecked the the post. Thanks for the advise!
The OP has my full agreement. Sector space has improved, but still, there is not anywhere a feeling of endless space to explore. I'm just not driven by the feeling of "what awaits me in the solar system there?" because I know a) I can't beam down if I don't have a mission there and b) there is nothing really to discover. Everything is still kept in astrometics, no matter if you turn it on or off. Hit 'm' and you see where you could go. Not that there would be anything waiting for you.
And I want to stress the point that I also was burning flame for beginning the game as a cadett in starfleet academy. This is supposed to be an RPG, right? So let us start with NOTHING and let us deserve our ranks and our ships. Because getting your first command is one of the most important things in a Starfleet officer's life! But you keep this moment away from us. We're not earning a ship. We just get the one because the Captain is dead. And this goes so fast noone really remembers the "great moment when I entered the bridge of my own ship". And at least pretend that we did something important for earning a rank, not for just blowing up ship no. 1000000.
Instead, we start "right into action". Terrible, really. It takes all Star Trek and RPG feeling away from me. And I already have a ship. And talk to the admirals. It's no difference if you're Lt. or Admiral yourself, everything feels the same.
There are also other issues in the game, but the ones mentioned here and by OP ander very important to me.

Ah that be much better. And yes, STO was in a load of doodoo around launch because they forgot to add something called content. Mix it up with the fact that you could get RA5 or BG5 back then without even using your brain and you know what time it was.
Thing is, the previous director (Zinkovich) pretty much put the blame back then on us, the community for not being patient enough. And the fact that Cryptic back then hyped Season 1 patch to the high heavens didn't do STO much good either because S1 patch was basically a big fail. It's only after Stahl took over from Zinkovich that STO actually started to move in the right direction. Season 2 was a neutral patch really, it featured nice content but also a lot of not so nice bugs so that reception was a bit of a mixed bag.
Season 3 however is seen as a stepping stone in the right direction. Foundry is coming, so that basically means unlimited amounts of new content then. Thing is that Cryptic still has a long way to go also but UGC will give them that extra bit of time before people are bored out of their minds and leave STO. Season 4 is pretty promising by the sound of it but I'm sure that a lot of people are more looking forward to the new weekly series and the new STFs.
So was STO bad at launch? Heck not even the biggest fanbois here can deny that. Is STO on it's way now to make up for it's mistakes and take a place in the MMO hall of fame? Yes, not even the biggest doomsayer can say otherwise now. STO is healthy again and it's starting to attract a blunt of new subs who seem to be having a good time as well. Let's hope that the new content bombs come soon for both sides

Completely agree, especially with the comments about Stahl taking over and the last paragraph. There is a good feeling about STO right now. Being in ESD and seeing so many more instances open is a great sign since Season 3 went live. I'm really enjoying being an new LTS because i firmly believe the future is looking very positive for this game. The dev's had been quick to update post-Season 3 (fill in Cold Case jokes here ) and will continue to do so, plus Foundry is still to come. Season 4 and 5 could really cement STO. Having watched the latest STOked last night, the comments from Jeremy were exactly what i was thinking regarding an expansion too. Good, no great times ahead.
Thing is, the previous director (Zinkovich) pretty much put the blame back then on us, the community for not being patient enough.
That is what happens when you have a "closer" like Zinc or BR.
They get the game with some flesh barely on the bones to market and leave the "corrections" to whom ever takes over when they move the next project. Its not an uncommon practice in business or politics.
Of course it could just be the conspiracy mood that Christmas has put me. HoHo's always watching you know. (peers upwards with trepidation)
