I've been away from the game for a few months and I just returned recently to play around abit. I noticed that I can't vendor white default equipment off of new starships...
When did this change? And why? Will it be restored? Farming and vendoring white equips was a decent source of income... Maybe I'll wait until this gets fixed before I come back to play again..

It changed recently. Why is because as you said, default equipment was being sold, and could be a point of abuse... you can still sell white equipment, so long as it wasnt default on a starship. It will not change. And finally, that is a ridiculous reason to leave the game... at least put some effort into a reason to leave, not something as lame as not being able to sell default equipment...
If you mean gear off C-store ships, it's to prevent just that exploit: Claim ship, sell gear, dismiss, claim another ship, sell gear, dismiss, ad infinitum.
Gear from ships obtained via promotion or purchased w/ credits should behave normally.

Well.. you just gave me enough reason to shelf this game again, with your lame-TRIBBLE attitude. Since I'm playing something else right now, I am in no hurry to return.
You know, just playing the game will yield plenty of loot, from Fleet Actions to Deep Space Encounters appropriate to your level there are plenty of "farming" opportunities. And you said you were away for a while, I don't know how long but I understand the difficulty slider is a recent feature in the game that allows a player to increase their chance at getting better drops.
MMO's are constantly growing and coming back after an absence of "months" you have to expect the game to be different to what you remember, but AlphaEcho, it may not be the farming you remember, but as it is now it's still easy enough to make the credits, white items are nothing compared to what you can get if you make an effort.

Why would I want to make an effort, when this game is currently sitting at the bottom of the mmo food chain? I came back to dabble a little, while my primary game is undergoing maintenance. Now that it's done... bai!

That's all fine and good, but can I or can I not have your stuff?

It looks like you just came back to criticize the game and be a general douchebag. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

So while you primary game is under maintenance you play a game that is "bottom of the MMO food chain", and you cry that it's not how you want it to be.......... okay then.

Farming and verndoring white starship equipment pieces still works. However, if you consider claiming ships and selling their default equipment farming, STO is definitely a way too interesting game for you.

As other people have posted, getting a C Store ship, selling the gear, scrapping the ship, and repeating was an exploit and will likely never be reverted.
If you do choose to get seriously involved in STO (again?) then you'll notice a lot of great content has been added and a lot of old work polished up. I don't know how much energy credits you considered it to be lucrative, but it is not uncommon to have millions through regular gameplay by the time you're an admiral.
Additionally, there are several things in the game that no amount of energy credits will get you. This may be additional powers, buffs, accolades, trophies, additional transwarp locations, costume slots, ships, missions, holo emitters, and bind on pickup gear (e.g. very rare Mk X items in Battle Group Omega) to name a few.
If you want to play other MMOs, by all means do so. But if you want to have fun in a Star Trek setting, I suggest you actually play the game. As you're a lifetime subscriber, I assume you believe it'll be a worthwhile investment of your time and energy.
I have a feeling Echo has gone to play his "Primary Game" which judging by his whiny nature is a well known MMO where the children gather to be merry little men and beat trolls over the head with their +100 stick of BAMBAM.
BTW I am, as I speak 112 sp of Captain 9 and I only have 347105 credits to my name, minus the 140K for my Galaxy and the 130K for my Nebula before that? Where's the millions at? This game is so hard to make money:eek::rolleyes:

So you judge things by how popular they are with the general public? Well, not everyone can have a mind of their own, I guess....
I just bought a new ship this past week when I respecced. I threw the default white gear on the exchange and it sold within a few hours for the insanely high prices I asked for it. That is more profitable than vendoring the equipment, so I don't see why anyone would complain!

Sounds like your at the bottom of the food chain for having to cheat at a game, sore loser much?
Now where's Stormshade to close down this bs!?! XD

When did this change?
Not sure of the date, I'll have to check patch notes.
And why?
The rationale for the change was that "farming and vendoring white equips was a decent source of income"
It was an exploit used by farmers who wanted to ruin the game for others. It has changed now.
Will it be restored?
Nope. It's highly unlikely that they'd restore a feature that most people used for exploting (not that you were, just that the EC farmers were)
Maybe I'll wait until this gets fixed before I come back to play again..
It was fixed to its current state, so I wouldn't hold my breath on it getting changed.
The man clearly has no interest in the game if he dismisses it for a single issue. If he was really interested he would ask to know other, better ways of gaining money (like the fact that you can easily make millions with all the crafting now).
Thread over. Move along, move along...

Let him be inactive if he chooses, more profit for cryptic
That or he has never played an MMORPG in his entire life.
