Realistic Torp Launcher

Don't know if this goes here guys so don'y crucify me, but i think it would be more realistic to have one general type of torpedo laucher that can fire Photons, Quatams, Critonic, Plasma, and Tranphasic topedos. It makes sense that Starfleet would not have 4 or 5 different types of launchers rather the different types of ammo. Specialty or rare types of weopons is understandable but the basic ones its kind of stupid. Maybe we could have one laucher with a toggle switch that allows you to select the type of torpedo ammo that u you current have access too. Or maybe you have the ultimate type of launcher that does this and is a rare torp laucher. What does everyone think?

    I understand what you are saying I just dont understand the difference.
    You would still have a slot taken up by a torpedo launcher. Ammo would be from the inventory instead?

    I think it's more of a Wording type of confusion thing....

    All the ships have "Torpedo Tubes" (aka: Launcher's) built in to them....

    You are just buying the TORPEDO's to fire out of them.

    The Dev's just need to change the description of the Torpedo's themselves to clear up this minor confusion.

    Pretty much... of course, you know someone's going to find fault with dropping a torpedo in a slot that can also hold a beam array if it's implied the torpedo launchers are already integrated into the ship anyway...

    Torpedoes as a finite resource with generic launchers, or launchers that have bonuses for certain types, and could switch ammo-type during combat (triggering the chosen ammo-type's normal reload timer) might be interesting though. Maybe. For one, the transphasic could be made into the one-shot-kill torpedo it's supposed to be, if the actual torpedoes were extremely rare and hard to come by. So it would be a waste to lob one at any random Bird of Prey in PvP. Plus you might run out. Like Voyager almost ran out. For seven years. Almost. Like it almost ran out of shuttlecraft. I feel dirty following that by pointing out it'd be realistic, but there you have it.

    But of course, the people specced to use tricobalts or transphasics with any regularity wouldn't be too happy to now have to pay through the nose to use that skill... And if torpedoes are going to be a finite resource, next we'll have to think long and hard on just how many fighters and birds of prey you can cram into one carrier. Which could well lead to Klingons evolving to have tearducts right on the spot...

    IMO there's some merit in looking into it, but in the end, it's probably going to be too much of a hassle.

    Read this line fanbois. The fear you guys instill when you swarm like piranas on someone makes people say THIS. Mods, given the state of fear the fanbois have instilled on just plain old innocent n00bs, please moderate their swarm attacks on people who post here, innocently, thinking this is a place to bring problems, complaints or ideas. It's one thing when a lifer complains like daily coffee, maybe on the same timer, but you fanbois attack anyone who deviates from your groupthink, new or old.

    To the OP, the torpedo launders are tailored to intent : pve, pvp, pve team .... a specific torpedo seems better for each function. Flying a cruiser and enjoying pvp, I like chroniton torpedos because they slow the escorts down and make them fly straight and slow. It stops pursuit, it slows down runners. Photon launcers are good for people who mount a launcher and forget it. They treat it like a beam array, ect ect. They all add an intricacy to gameplay. If every launcher could fire every torpedo, it would become mandatory equipment, everyone would have one.

    I definitely think we should crucify him (or her), upside down and underwater. :p

    I'm not sure I would like limited torpedoes, simply because i would be much more apprehensive about using them. Sure, it would be more realistic, but just imagine they are replicating new torpedoes at the same time as firing current ones. I only use batteries, another limited resource, when I think it is absolutely necessary even though they are ten for a dime...

    Sorry gang let me clarify what i meant. As it stands now starships come with a standard number torpedo launchers, usually 2-4 launchers depending on the vessel. As we progress thru the game we aquire either normal torpedos photons/quantums or special torpedos such as plasma, transperic etc.... all have unlimited ammo. What i was trying to convey is that rather than having to use one particular weopon slot per launcher as described below;

    Galaxy Class forward loudout

    Phaser/photon/phaser/photon

    same for the rear loudout

    Phaser/photon/phaser/photon

    You could have one launcher that fires all types of torpedos that you have aquired (with unlimitted ammo) same as it is now. There would be no need have two lauchers forward or aft. Just one launcher. Simlilar confiq as below

    Galaxy Class

    phaser/new laucher all typs of ammo/phaser

    Hopefully this clarifies my thought
