Question for the devs. Do u have any plans for the holidays ingame? Even if it was a few decorations or random npcs wearing Santa hats. Maybe the klingons have a holiday of their own.
Not everything in sto is Canon. cryptic has gone outside of the spectrum of Canon.
They have gone outside the spectrum maybe, but not crossed the line into disregarding it. And besides, all of you forgot that CBS has the final say, so guess what, they are gonna stick with canon.

what does that have to do with christmas or any holiday for that matter? this is an MMO not the actual ST Universe. its supposed to help them immerse into that world. and one way to do that is to relate to the playerbase in some manner. the small things like a few decorations and fun things to see running around in game sometimes gives players a bit more immersiveness.
theres plenty of things in this game you never saw in trek...a Borg Tribble??? WHY OH WHY would the borg assimilate a tribble? it was done though wasnt it? why? because its something fun and interesting. doesnt make it canon, doesnt break canon.
gotta love the forums. regardless of whats said here, you canonites come a running to try and burn everyone at the stakes for not sticking to your holier then thou "canon".

How can Christmas make ST more immersive when there is no focus on Christmas in ST? If you want to make something more immersive to an IP you need to focus on putting in more things from the IP. I can run around saying they need to add Deathstars and Battlestars in the game to make it a more immersive science fiction experience but those things have nothing to do with the IP and would add nothing to the Trek experience I'm paying for.
Cryptic's already said their teams are very focused on getting new content into the game right now and so don't have time to focus on holiday events. They've also said if they do holiday events they'll be focused on Star Trek holidays - primarily because that allows them to have events that don't conflict with some other games' events.

You should try to not disparage a group of people simply because they disagree with you. We're all here because we like Star Trek, not because we just want to play a generic science fiction game.

what does deathstars and battlestars have to do with some christmas trees and a few santa hats??oh thats right nothing. instead of twisting things extremely out of its context. try making a vaild arguement as to why christmas shouldnt be there. not the "its not canon" arguement that everyone runs to when they have no other reason to disagree but want to anyway.

They didnt give me any reason to believe they were doing anything other then blowing off my idea because they could. Half the people on this forum have nothing better to do then disagree with an idea. And their fallback arguement, whenever they dont have something to go on, is "its not canon". So yes, I will continue to disparage anyone that cant give me a legitimate reason or something that explains why it wouldnt work into this game when it doesnt contend with the IP.
Im not going to continue to give people their kicks when all it does is tell people not to come up with good ideas to further the experience of this game. All that does is create a narrowminded playerbase who believe any change that isnt directly viewable thru episodes or movies (like a bible) is wrong.
well according to the canonites...that would make it canon because it was seen in a show or movie. just like the AGT uniform.
No one is arguing with the idea. No one has a problem with the idea that some humans celebrate Christmas while others don't. Nor do they mind that Bajorans worship the Prophets while other species don't. Klingons, Vulcan, Andorians, and every other species all have their own religious holidays too. That's fine. They're just not a focus in Star Trek.
Not to mention that christmas decorations in a starbase is 100% uncanon.
Why? After all Picard fantasized about a big TRIBBLE Christmas with a tree and decorations and all that in "Generations". I wouldn't see why there wouldn't be decorations on ESD.

Because that "fantasy" was in Picard's home not in SF HQ. Starfleet would have to be tolerant to hundreds, if not thousands, of religions: several major ones human alone: Christmas, hanukkah, Ramadan, etc. In a ST universe who knows what might be offensive to a species. A Christmas tree might be a symbol of hatred to a Caitian.
We don' know the exact date for Federation Day (2161) but a newspaper clipping created for Generations, but never used, listed it as October 11th.
'Course, we don't even get those in STO. April 5th and October 11th have been and gone with absolutely nothing changed in STO for those days.
I tend to think it's really just an excuse for Cryptic not to bother with events of any kind, the only actual events we've had have been in beta and tribble. Maybe they're scared we'll have fun or something...
I know, we could open access to the Captains Table for everyone until 12 days after christmas day, decorate it accordingly, sell holiday food and make everyone happy, no need to participate if you don't want to, but allows people to celebrate if they wish.
as a matter of fact, a christmas party is mentioned in the TOS episode Dagger of the mind
Yep. There's also an episode of DS9 where Julian gives someone exploding earrings for Christmas. And, of course, Data was doing Scrooge for A Christmas Carol play aboard the Enterprise at one point. But even then I don't remember Christmas decorations all over DS9 or the Enterprise.

The dev statement was quite clear on the idea that they're not going to divert people to do holiday events until they've gotten more content into the game. First priority is expanding the game. Cryptic has a small team and I'm sure most people would rather see that team working on the next Series or 3.x update then wasting time on a holiday event that only lasts a week or two each year.

It's an excuse i don't really buy, they could do it for CO they can do it for STO.

You can't compare one to the other. CO has substantially more content in-game then STO does. No one's running around CO screaming "Fire Archetypes don't have any mission" like Klink players are in STO. It's the difference between a game that spent two years in development and a game that spent one.

I believe i just did, you can't bend reality. That's also irrelevant because events are also content.

Events are limited time content. STO desperately needs permanent content. People aren't quitting STO because the game doesn't have holiday events. I see posts every day about lack of end-game and leveling content. I never see one saying: "Give me a holiday event or I'm gone!"
Plus I'm currently quite content with how Cryptic is handling Series events. The Devidian series was a much better Halloween event then the redo Takofanes invasion that was in CO.
Comments
Until then, there will only be player-created/hosted ones.
If they have any holiday events they will be apropriately Star Trek themed.
Not to mention that christmas decorations in a starbase is 100% uncanon.
blah canon can go away... ruins everything... you can either have a uncanon christmas party in STO... or a canon Klingon Invasion... again.. choose.
Not everything in sto is Canon. cryptic has gone outside of the spectrum of Canon.
Since when does Christmas need to be a canon event, does cryptic need every player to get sucked into The Nexus just to make a Christmas event?
BTW cryptic, just to show my appreciation I bought an ungodly amount of c-points, my Liberated Borg never looked better:D

Shatner is Jewish, thus the plan for the holiday season is MENORAHS EVERYWHERE!
Which has the added bonus of making everyone look awesome. Lets face it, even Ferengi are kinda sexy in candlelight...
hang miseltoe from their ears.

Do we want cryptic to develop an event based on a holiday that not everyone has, or do we want more STO content.
Tho I still say Christmas does not have to be a canon to be in STO, besides it was featured in Generations albeit in an illusion.
I vote more STO content.

That is what I have said twice in this thread, Christmas was in Star Trek
In Star Trek, when is "Zephram Cochrane Day", and if done what would it feature content wise.
Should this be a new thread?
April 5th is First Contact day.

Maybe I should search next time.:o Thanks:rolleyes::)
