I haven't done testing to the max on tribble yet but if the two sets are indeed superior to any other shield/deflector/engine combination we are going to have a problem i guess.
What about all the other rare purple deflectors/shields/engines out there?
Once everybody has the new sets they won't keep playing the older content for emblems or marks.
Most people should have the purple mk 11 consoles and weapons they wanted by now so what's left?
If the sets turn out to be superior the market for purple or lower deflectors/shields/engines is dead.
If it is superior you have created the one and only high end gear, which is usable at lower ranks already of what i heard.
Maybe there should be a trade off (weapon power level reduced by 25%) when using those sets since they are meant to keep you alive a bit longer. So players have to make a decision whether to deal more damage or to improve their defenses. In my escort i would probably use my current gear in order to keep the damage output high. Cruisers and science ships would use those sets to improve their tanking abilities.
Escorts already have a hard time taking out cruisers and science ships already (pvp) when the players know how to play. Therefore escorts need something in return. Preferably something offensive at the expense of protection (shield power level reduced by 25%).
Option 3: We keep our current gear and stay ballanced.
They are rewards for doing more time consuming and "dangerous", for those who are the most elite players. While they do bring a few perks they do have some draw backs (aegis shields have a reduced regen rate), ships with these additions will be a little harder to defeat in 1vs1 battles but hardly impossible (marginal weapon / aux/ shield/ engine power) with many of the perks effecting special attacks done against the user (+33 emitters - will help prevent/stop tractor beams and stuff).
someone correct me if im wrong but i believe the latest patch on tribble, brought them more in line with the others but even if they are still more powerful you still have to invest your time doing them. not everybody will feel like doing the task forces, not everybody will farm for data samples
you cant trade or sell them as i understand it so you cant just give them to a low end character, they just happen to work on the low end ships you already have.
also emblems and marks can buy weapons, all ground gear, and consoles so i hardly see this as the end of the world.
not to mention i believe these to be the first of several sets so in time it will all balance out.
neither of the two kits particularly suit my playstyle or how i normally set my ship up, there are one or two pieces in each kit that may be superior in some way to another piece, but its nothing thats going to be gamebreaking. more of a **** factor than anything.
the new borg (dropped on stf's) and aegis (crafted) they are available to test on tribble right now and info about them is in the tribble section of forums

Minor correction: The borg equipment pieces are NOT drops. They are mission rewards. 1 for completing the soloable episode 'Assimilation', then 1 for each of the 3 Borg STFs ('Infected', 'The Cure' & 'Khitomer Accord')
And no, they are not vastly superior to currently available equipment. Some pieces are a bit of a downgrade in some respects, especially after the last adjustments made to them on Tribble.
Then why in the name of science are you posting this drivel? Test it to see if it's overpowered or not before you start threads like these. It's not that hard to do, Tribble is free so long as you have the hard drive space.
People will still grind badges/marks/emblems for other gear. Like ship weapons, consoles, ground weapons, etc.
You know gear is supposed to get better over time and the difficulty in obtaining it is supposed to rise. WoW has worked around this model for years now. Proposing that new stuff be balanced and equal to old stuff is ridiculous.

I agree on the whole but WoW generally makes its first raid of an expansion much easier than the others and proceeds to make everything easier through nerfs and improved gear handed out easier. And adds more very easy Heroics to get gear through, sometimes allowing a tier to be skipped.
I maintain that either Infected needs to be nerfed to the ground or a new STF needs to be created below Infected.
The problem is that Infected is not designed for PuGs but there's no place in the game for PuGs to meet, play, and become organized groups.

when you compare these sets to existing purple mkxii gear obtained from crafting or emblems they are different yes
however in some ways they are weaker....as with all gear it depends on your playstyle and tactics...
for isntance the only borgset item of any use to me is the shield...the rest dont fit in my scheme and would be weaker than my existing gear#
..its a choice...choice is good

Keep them coming, STO team.
