I would like to re suggest ship combat maneuvers, in which there are buttons that can be selected that allow the ship to perform certain maneuvers.
barrel roll: would put the ship into a single 360 roll, allowing it to fire bow stern and port weapons, and can also be used as an evasive tactic
flip face: the ship would do a loop up, while rolling a180, as it turns the nose to point the opposite direction, putting an aft enemy to the fore, allowing a frontal assault. it can also be used as a defensive tactic in a quick escape
Hard About: turns the ship like the flip face, but without the upward loop. the ship simply points aft, either to the left or right (since flip face would be more escort and medium size style, this could be a large cruiser alternative)
hard to port: thrusts the ship to a 40 or 50 degree tilt (in canon evasive pattern delta means to rock the ship port to starboard)
other interesting strategies that could be considered:
Antimatter Pod Detonation
A desperate starship equipped by antimatter pods and offline weapon systems can try to eject a pod and detonate it, like a torpedo.
Scorpion Evade
The ship performs a evasive maneuver dangerously close to a enemy ship, hoping that another enemy ship will try and fire at the ship and hit its ally instead.
Pentis Maneuver
The ship uses its hull as a "lightning rod" to absorb a discharge from a ion storm and then channel the discharge through the deflector dish as a coherent energy beam.
Shield Repulsing
The ships reverses the polarity of its shields, then brushes its primary targets so as to push it through space, sending it tumbling out of the way. The ship may also manage to bounce on its targets shields, increasing the distance separating both ships.
Intercede
The acting ship tries to interpose itself between an attacked ship and its attacker, in order to protect it by drawing enemy fire.
