"I am playing" thread. Hope this don't get locked like the I quit threads;)
Why I'm playing?
Well first
Crptic keeps making me happy. *
They keeping putting out season after season! *They won't stop! How dare they?!?
They keep making improvements to the game.
The people on the game for the most part are really cool.
I love the costumes
I love sector space
I love click to sit
I love STF's
I love dabo
The ships are neat
The planets are detailed & almost endless
I like what I see in c-store
Finally they are now doing weekly episodes. *How dare they!
I play a few games, but every night, at least for a hour, I play STO.
A lot of work has been done on this game, we have come a long ways, but we still have a ways to go.
I have nothing but respect for Cryptic. I truly hope we continue to see the improvements and game additions that have occured since dstahl has been leading the troops.
I play because I like Star Trek. STO is one of 10 MMOs I regularly play. Sometimes STO makes me smile and sometimes it makes me frown but I'm still enjoying myself overall.
This is the best Star Trek game I've played, and the only MMO I've ever played
I love how open the devs are to player feedback
I've made some pretty awesome friends in-game
PvP is fun
Helped me resurrect my dead roleplay
I love the dailies and the weeklies
I am looking forward to game enhancements
Supprt diversity, or succumb to conformity. It could be better, they can always be better, that's the nature of things. Most things. I guess diamonds are forever. Apart from entropy and atmospheric conditions, pressure, heat, and all that affects them too.
But better is a possibility, an option, as opposed to the darkness of pre-creation, which hardly can be considered a measurable option. So in the spirit of what we have, and not what could have been in alternate realities, this is enough by far.
No bots (rare now days in MMO's)
Good community
Not forced to PvP for something
Create own missions (soon)
Great character customization
Great developers, support, communication etc etc
Didn't you hear? It's against the forum guidelines to post an "I'm playing" thread.
In all seriousness, the game has improved drastically over the past few months and it looks like it'll just continue to get better. I'll still have my reservations, but I'm enjoying it as it currently is, even if I don't play every day.
Well, according to Steam, I have logged 1128 hours in STO so far. Four max characters (2 fed & 2 klingon), and now im currently addicted to crafting. So yeah, im rather taken by this game as well. --- goes back to farming particles --:D

Let's just be honest here. If posts about quitting aren't allowed, and posts about playing aren't allowed, I may as well turn these forums off, since we won't be able to talk about anything!
With that said...
IBTL!
Seriously though, I, and the rest of the team, love to hear not only what we're doing wrong, but also what we're doing right. One of the things I love about this community, is that you are really good at letting us know both things. Not all forums are like that.

Sure, we can talk about other things. Like politics...and religion...and...
Oh, wait. Never mind.
One thing that I have to say is that you guys DO listen to both the positive and negative. I've certainly seen a lot more communication lately, even if it doesn't feel like it at times. You get a lot of flack from us, but that just means that we care about the future of the game. I doubt you'd see a much more loyal fanbase than a bunch of Trekkie gamers. Treat us right and we'll love you long time.
I blame Dan Stahl and his STO team for making Star Trek Online much better game than it was at release. STO continues to be better with every new update. I'm really glad that I have lifetime sub this really allows me to enjoy this game to the fullest and for a long time to come.
I was very critical of STO until season 3, now things truly keep looking better and better. With crafting been expanded for both factions and Klingon PI Canis, replaying missions, foundry and future content, things really look promising. Now I can truly enjoy STO.
STO is still a young game, many of the older games did something funny that messed up Status Quo in a negative way, so that community or character interaction was severely affected,
I just hope something of that sort can be avoided here. Changes might not automatically be bad. They just come with potential danger, there are nuances and wheels within wheels here, there is no black and white like in the comics.
For UO it was Trammel, it severed the established community. For AO it was the Shadowlands, again community related problems, in addition to a radical change in how you played the game after hitting the old level cap.
For DaoC it was the Trials of Atlantis, for SWG it was the CU. Game technical changes, that had a mixed reception, and was not for all to put it mildly. A new kind of ( elaborate ) grind, and an upheaval of established elements respectively.
For CoH, initially the ED for a game technical blow, mitigated by CoV, then finally Going Rogue in CoH/V, since I am a faction player by nature and that change negated any "faction pride", and for me personally at least, the "Free to Play" in LotRO due to the ( subjective ) clumsy handling of the various shop elements, so that the process felt intrusive and forced, on several levels. From the humongous shop bag on primary tray, to the navigation inside the shop itself. Did I mention how wonderful the C-Store is to use by the way?
These examples could of course coincide with the player psyche wanting a detachment from the material at hand, and thus locating opportunities in order to execute a departure. But on some level a mistake was generated, at least for some of the older examples, or else subjectivity have gained the upper hand, and logic failed utterly. That is always a possibility in a world made out of shades of grey.

PS. More Klingons content please
This ^^
Although I was not critical of STO, I do believe the game is heading in a much better direction with Dstahl at the helm.
I have nothing but praise for Dev's/Cryptic. I believe you guys have done a lot of hard work, but we still have a lot more work ahead of us.
I would like to give a little constructive critism.
Simple things in the game should have been address already, but have either gone unnoticed or on the backburner. Examples:
1. When zoning in certain area's with my ship, My ship will zone in without the animation of warping into the system. It was already there. Also the ship warping out too soon before the sound.
2. When my captain beams upto my ship, his hair color will change right at transport.
3. The Ship stats are different(not correct) unless in space(a space zone like ESD, but not sector space or ground).
4. Auto fire beam array will stop firing on the target ship if I dont have his ship on my screen. I.E. Looking around with my camera for other potiental hostiles above/below/behind.
Even though these little issues are minor, it can be confusing to new players(either to new to mmo's or just new to STO). I certainly hope these like little other issues can be least put on your "To Do List".
I have faith in you guys, you have proven your capable of doing it and much more. I applaud your communication with all us STO fans. Also, Love sector space revamp.
I play, and I always do, and if I get bored of my high end chars, I'll create a new one (and before anyone asks "doesn't that get old?" how many time have you seen a particular ST episode), the Foundry is going to bring infinite playability, because while some will get bored with it after they've done a few missions, others will LIVE to create them.
Heck I was content to play SFC III with the dynaverse and the various mods and addons... until I lost the CD Key.... Anyways, STO blows that out of the water.
Every update STO gets better, the Devs have a vision, and they are working hard to make it happen.
I am really glad I went lifetime right away, everyone I know thought I was nuts as it's a new game and it was somewhat "rough" around the edges to start with (I'm being nice here ), but I had a good feeling about STO and everyone at Cryptic.
As each update comes out, new content and new C-Store items, I get to sit here and say "I told you so" to my friends... it's the best feeling in the world
I will admit, I have had the odd grumble along the way, almost lost the faith a few times, but I'm so happy I kept with this game.
I have really enjoyed watching it grow and look forward to seeing what is going to happen next.
And of course, our community reps and the dev team have been good at keeping us in the loop over what is going on, I could tell you stories about some games and the blanket silence you get from there teams... but to be so involved in the growth of a game and have those who are in charge keeping you informed and upto date as best they can - that in itself is priceless.
Stormshade, you know I think you should give Codemasters reps a few lessions on customer relations, take a few on for work experiance for a week or two and show them the ropes

While I agree with your criticisms, especially the zoning - I love how you now zone out then flash back to the screen after you leave now or after entering the camera repans but I digress...
Anyway, your issue number four can be solved via preference. There is an option to allow targeting and fire on targets off screen as well as none targeted objects if memory serves.
What can i say... some people like boobies.... i like blue glowing warpnecelles.
Uhm... can't I like both?
Seriously though, when STO launched it was horrible. I suppose that a lot of people will blame Zinc for that, but he did at least one thing right. He got STO launched. You have to give him at least that much.
Since Dstahl has taken over, the improvements and additions to STO have come much faster than I've seen in any other MMO. And the improvements and additions weren't just random ones either, they've been things that we've specifically asked for. I think that Dstahl is really plugged in to what we, the trekkies and paying customers, want.
Star Trek Online is well on its way to becoming a great MMO. It ain't there yet, but I think it soon will be.
And yes I looked it up, being old and rusty. Hehe.

I understand. I am 33 that's old for Internet;) I don't like to admit this but a few years ago I had to look up lol;) In fact who comes up with stuff like LOL, IBTL and the like? I mean who was the very first person who typed "lol" does that person know what he started?
Heck I was content to play SFC III with the dynaverse and the various mods and addons... until I lost the CD Key.... Anyways, STO blows that out of the water.

I love pvp
I love playing the featured series with my RL friends

I think the big things have to be the devs interactions with us, and listening and talking to us.
also the foundry is just epic. we can make our own star trek stories. how friggen cool is that.
im hooked and im not going anywhere, any time soon.

Yes my standards are low when the name Star Trek is tagged on to it.
What can i say... some people like boobies.... i like blue glowing warpnecelles.
I can't give any real good reasons why. It's just fun.
I love STO second best...
Still, I will probably play till I drop dead on my couch or the game folds...
The only reason STO comes in second, is because I cant go to bed and snuggle with it.
sure you can .......why is everybody looking at me like that?
Sure, we can talk about other things. Like politics...and religion...and...
