--- chatting with STO players....

I think I might represent a .... of players of STO but a .... that might have a voice.

I am an old school gamer. Spent my early years on Prodigy, The Sierra Network and Space Quest. I like to keep my computer up to date so my girlfriend can play the cutting edge games she wants but I haven't really gotten into a game in years. I got her Star Wars Galaxies for Christmas and saw her play it day and night for awhile then drop it like a bad habit when it had some big change over that made everyone hate it. I get her all the Fallout and Star Craft games but don't really get into them myself anymore. Still a geek, still keeping the 22" LCD with super computer behind it up to date but not spending much time playing games. Playing every game that comes out so I can keep up with the hottest and coolest in games but letting life and work take up more time. Along comes STO. In beta. Gotta get it. Love it.. So it's my first MMO.. Spend the first 6 months getting to know the game. When every FAQ is written for a gamer who is getting used to STO (Crafting is just like WOW in this way but this and that is different) but start to catch on. Become hard core into it. Speding as much time on Tribble as on Halodek. Loving every moment of it. Doesn't have a lot of time though, as work and real life comes into play but whenever something cool shows up in C-Store a sucker for getting it.

You get the idea.. I think that I might be a part of a target demographic for Star Trek Online. Someone who is making enough bucks to afford to play it any pay the extra for the perks that if I were a 15-19 year old I would be spending the time at home grinding to get but still loving it all. I love how it looks and I love the game. Its only getting better. UGC?! Being able to go back and redo old missions with ease?!?! Memory Alpha being made great??!! I just know I am going to keep playing..

So that's where the question comes in.. I am a monthly subscriber for a long time, since Beta, so I've paid some dues.

Is there something coming that will let us get a lifetime membership for some kindda deal? I mean, I've been playing my $15 a month for almost a year now.. I've reached that point where "If I was smart enough to know this was the way to go I would have" (or in my case, "I didn't have enough $$ to spend at the time") but now it would feel a bit of a kick to go $300 bucks plus for lifetime. Even a 1/2 off if you've been a member for over a year. Something like that. Or how about "If you've bought this much stuff in the C-Store" or something.. anything.. to help me go over that bump and get the lifetime that I very much desire..

ok anyway
back to the game

I agree me too been playing since open beta, I wasn't lucky enough to get picked for closed beta. I was wondering if there was some sort of reward or discount for us who are not Lifers to become lifers at a discount since we been here from the beginning.

Hmm. You know, the prospect of some day saving money on subscription cost if you just keep on playing was always the main feature of the Lifetime Sub, as well as its greatest risk. Perhaps you look at it the wrong way. If you buy a Lifetime Sub now, the sooner it will pay off for you as well.

I mean ... what will you offer those guys who will play two years until they go "hey, I should have done that"? Or three? You can't just keep lowering the prices - this would not be smart from an economical point of view and will lessen the "good thing I did that back then" effect existing Lifers experience more with each month they don't have to pay the fee. And I do believe the Lifetime Sub still comes with a couple special gifts for you.

The sooner you buy, the bigger the gamble, and the sooner you reap the rewards.

But hey, I didn't regret it, and I do not think you would either. If you have played this long and want to keep going, I think it is a pretty safe deal for you. So go for it. :)

As a banker, I'd suggest you open a savings account. Put 20 dollars a paycheck in there and you'd have enough to get the lifetime sub in no time. I suggest your local credit union. :)

I got myself a One Year Sub + some 30 day copies for the pre order perks.

I'll get my 400 day reward before i have to pay another € for subbed time.

I only stopped playing STO shorty for Starcraft 2 and Fallout New Vegas... damn i never even finished New Vegas !

Anyway, i am too thinking about getting an LTA after my time is up, but seeing Champions Online going "Freemium", STO will probably too in a few months (Cryptic is just checking out if it is worth the effort and then they will shoot for STO).

I say STO will be going Free 2 Play before 2011 is over.

I would not buy a LTA before that change has happened and i see how the LTA is affected by it.

I'm pretty much in the same catagory as the OP, but I'm willing to plunk down my $15.00 bucks a month for the rest of my life as long as it helps keep the game going.

Hell, I use to spend a heck of a lot more than that on Star Trek Comics/Books every month.

I would consider waiting until after the first anniversary. If they are going to run a promotional special that would surely be the best time; although the marketing department has made some serious blunders so who knows.

Nonetheless, if come February, and nothing special happened previously, then I would simply get a LtS ignoring the cost difference. After all what is $100 in the bigger scheme of things? For me that is about three hours drinking - alone; with a lady friend, maybe an hour or two at best.
