Left about the time they brought out the three nacelle Enterprise for a ridiculous $25 fee. Now I bought the lifetime sub and money overall is not an issue for me so it's not that I can't afford $25. But it was the fact that the game got released so early with very little to no content at end game or at all for Klingon side that them spending time making one skin and charging $25 more when the game content was scarce just seemed like a really ignorant idea at the time. So left in hopes that maybe this would become a some what good game after some time.
Now, I've heard things have been getting better. I understand there is a tier 6 now. That mean they actually fixed the bugs and filled in content for the klingons and end game now? And is ground combat/missions any better?
How is the pvp side of it these days? Queue pops were terrible when I left. A lot to do with it being an incomplete game on release so ratio of Feds to Klingons was poor. Plus, it was mostly mundane instances.
So is this finally turning into a mmo game worth the time to play? Or is it still buggy and lack content while still charging people for simple little items in the c-store instead of fixing the before part?
Just play the damn game and stop whining! All kidding aside it is much much better than it was at launch, but if you want to be a Klingon then I hate to b the one to tell you that they are still very lite on content.
Wouldn't this of been a better question to ask...and have answered, before you bought the lifetime?
I think its a good game and worth trying. But if we all said it sucks...it wouldn't change the fact that you've already committed to it.
Edited:
Maybe I misread his initial post. His wording makes it seem like he played, quit, and came back with a lifetime. And when seen in that light, it makes his question seem silly. If he had a lifetime all along and came back to see how things are doing now...disregard my post completely
Tier 6? No, but they have tier 5 refits (Defiant, Galaxy, and Intrepid). They added some more content for the klingons, but they still have a ways to go before I will consider playing Kingon. They did open up a new sector for the klingons though. Not much has changed for PvP, but they did change up the que system.
But system replay, the new weekly missions and coming soon the user generated content will create create loads of content for both sides.
Based on your mindset, no everything is the same and you might as well leave.
Your gripe about the Galaxy X is laughable. Its original intention wasn't to be a 25 dollar money sink, rather a reward for inviting 5 paying friends to the game. It was put on the C-store to appeal to those who cried and cried about not having enough friends to invite, and even at 25 dollars space was filled with them for quite a while.
The only specific endgame content (ie. content unlocked at last levels) are the stf missions, and few regular missions concerning the Undine and a mission or two specifically for the KDF.
Although Im not sure weather this happened before or after you left there has been no tier 6 ship released. The new ships are largely refits, mostly teir 4 ships buffed to compete at tier 5 with a special ability
The game has gotten significantly better in a pve sense but pvp is largely stagnant. Take that as you will.
To me, Season 3 brought the game to a point it should have been released at. There's more content for Klingons (not as much as Fed, but I don't think it ever will be nor intended to be), weekly episode series are awesome, Foundry is starting to come online.
Can't comment on the PvP too much, I dabble in it, but not a hardcore PvPer (though I rarely have issues queuing when I do PvP)
Bugs still occur, but I'd say they aren't as gamebreaking or persistent as they were closer to launch.
If you're still on the fence, you can try it out, or maybe if your time is a bit too stretched right now you can always wait it out until the foundry is out of open beta and released, and maybe for Season 4.

It's definitely better than it was around the time of the Galaxy-X launch. That was about the time I joined. With Daniel Stahl as the producer now, the game as well as the concept for the game have taken a different direction. In regards to content, the STO team is now doing series--five to six "episode" story arcs that are have been pretty amazing so far. They've included some new game mechanics that were introduced via the series as well as new rewards. So definitely check out the Breen and Devidian arcs if you haven't already.
Season III moved away from the "content" heavy patches of I and II; and really supplied us with some streamlined mechanics, bug fixes, and the new sector space. The Foundry, fka UGC is currently on Tribble being tested. I've done one mission creation with it, and it's been awesome for a first gen deployment. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles yet--but over time its probably going to be a pretty powerful tool for 'us' to assist in content creation, especially with the KDF.
I mainly play UFP, but I do have a KDF General. There are some awesome PVE missions now available, but they're still far and few between. Gotta give it time though--the teams' done a lot for the KDF since the redirection--but the game as a whole is still under a year old and in its infancy. But the new direction is amazing, and with Season IV, there's talk of a new ground combat system as well as officer & crew management aboard your starship.
Not sure where you heard about a Tier 6 though. The level cap was increased so VAdm 1 is now available, but there are no new Tier 6 ships. The interim solution was to give us access to "Retrofits" for each class: Defiant, Galaxy and Intrepid class ships. Each loses a console, but that's been replaced with a special ability. Defiant now has a cloak, Galaxy comes with saucer seperation, and the Intrepid has the Endgame finale's ablative armor generator.
Unfortunately, I can't really tell you about PVP. I know that the que system was revamped a while back--but I rarely, if ever, actually play. I'm sure someone will comment on its current for you.
C-Store is always going to be there. It a component of not just STO, but of Cryptic Studio's business model. People complain about it, but really... there's nothing in there that anyone HAS to have. Like you, I'm actually fortunate enough to be able to spend money on the game, and honestly--the C-Store doesn't bother me. I've bought a number of items from it.
Hope that helps! Let us know if you have anymore questions.
I have plenty of things to do, but then, I usually only play an hour or two each night. I have both a Klingon and a Federation character and enjoy them both.
Don't know about you, Keypek, but not only is STO worth playing for me it's also worth spending the time going to the Tribble Server to participate in Open Beta testing of the Foundry tool set so we could design, write and enjoy our own STAR TREK stories and missions, whether Federation or KDF flavored.
Think of Cryptic what you will, in my book, they're already doing a good job.
Thanks for the responses all. Might give it another shot. And yeah I didn't mean to say tier 6 as I meant tier 5 with the upgradeable ships.
And yeah, I still think the Galaxy X, among other things, were very poor decisions on cryptics part seeing as how they released half a game with very little end game content. They needed to be worrying about that and not about friend invite rewards or filling their c-store with items at the time. Do I have a problem with the c-store overall? No. Just the timing and the very poor decisions made on this game in it's infancy. And if I had known that going in I wouldn't have bought the lifetime sub. But the past is the past hopefully.
Now having said that, I love everything Star Trek and would love to get back into the game. Sounds like there are a lot of new and cool stuff to do which is exciting. It's sad the Klingons still don't have a lot of content. And I do love me some pvp. But having a lot of end game content to play on my Feds would be sweet on it's own.
Glad to see they have added a lot of ships from the actual shows such as the Nebula (one of my favorites) and the excelsior. Now if they would just add the Dominion as a playable race so I can make my own Weyoun I would be happy.
I just came back after a hiatus myself. I left just after they introduced the accolades into the game. I've only been back for a week or so and haven't tried out all of the new stuff yet, but I'm enjoying the new missions and sectors so far.
It never stopped be "worth playing" it just didn't appeal to you. Maybe it just isn't for you or your needs.
Honestly that is an ignorant answer. When this game launched it was bad; barely playable. That was why I unsubscribed after the first month. Now the game actually feels like a finished product. You don't tell somebody he does not like cookies just because he did not think raw flour tastes good.
I was extremely excitied about re-joining about 2 months ago, and as my 3-month subscription is coming to a close again, I won't be replaying.
The gamne did make leaps and bounds from launch, but key items such as an actual pvp struggle between klingons and starfleet, UGC, and weeklies (every week) have not come into fruition, I will be leaving again. Sure we had the Breen and the Dividians, but that has been it. And the season three release did not bring us UGC which I have been waiting for from the beginning. So yeah I am leaving. Repetitive missions and objectives can be found in any MMO, this one is no different.
I do not recommend this game to Star trek fans, as it is more like "space commandos" in the costume of your choice.
When true "exploration" enters this game, maybe then I will return and recommend it to star trek fans.
If you are looking simply for a juvenile, space adventure, then have at 'er, it's right up your alley and a ton of fun.

Your statement like mine and the OP's is purely opinion. That does not make it wrong, right or invalid.

It is that type of post-modern thinking that has the world in the shape it is today. There really are absolutes in life and some opinions are absolutely pointless and invalid. The fact is that many people including fans of the shows, MMO players, and professional reviewers felt the game was extremely unfinished and very unplayable. Now that they have spent almost a year polishing and developing the game it is in a very good position to be enjoyable. To tell someone it is not his cup of tee merely because he felt the game was TRIBBLE in the beginning is not only disingenuous but it negates all the strides Cryptic has made to bring it up to par.

Said convincingly by the person with the avatar displaying a set of industrial sized gigantic hoots.
Its amazing how often we get these posts from folks lamenting about a feature that hasn't been implemented yet. Yet leave on the very verge of its arrival. You waited this long and you give up now? Because of UGC? You can try it, test it, experiment with it, touch it even. And now, your patience is at an end?

Some folks are just hard to please.
Strangly enough... I can't seem to test it, as it does not work for me. And for "getting these posts often" doesn't that support my position even more? That features not currently available, are still not available arguement, has been around since launch and has not gone away because it's true!
So what if my avatar has big breats... I happen to like big breats! The character portrayed is my cheif tactical officer (as I have labelled her at least, as "cheif of's" or "first officers" titles are still not available, a star trek STAPLE) hence supporting my "it does not feel like star trek" statement.
When it actually "feels" like star trek, I would love to return. As of right now... like many have said in many other posts... it does not feel like star trek.
ah yes.... I am computer savvy, lol. Sorry, don't mean to sarcastic... in the correct tab it says i have 2 characters slots available but cannot make a character.... i've been told by other community members that only "select" players can test UGC, while everyone else has to wait until sometime first or second quarter 2011 for the actual release.

I have heard nothing of this. If this were true, there would probably be a lot of fuss over it on the forums, which there is none. It sounds like a bug to me.
I seem to recall hearing it was down for a while not long ago. Have you tried anytime within the last week? I'm 99% sure it was been up at least that long, and if you haven't tried recently, you may have simply caught it at a bad time.
Bad joke about TRIBBLE aside, I'm honestly just trying to help.

Will I guess I am kicking up a fuss about it. I just checked again, and still "create content" tab still does not work for me, everything is greyed out , yet i hover over 'create character" (2 available) yet cannot create one as it is greyed out.
And i do appreciate the help... i started a thread about this the day after season 3 launch, and one reply told me about the launch time and select beta testers.

hmm seems odd. I would suggest posting in the foundry beta section of the forum, they may be able to help you there, as I am not testing on tribble
also just found this in the Foundry FAQ
Q: Who can use The Foundry?
A: Anyone with an active Star Trek Online subscription will be able to use The Foundry for Star Trek Online (Beta) Mission Authoring Tool, after agreeing to the EULA for The Foundry.
did u accept the EULA (and I have no idea where u accept that)

Have you tried Tribble Test Server, or are your tactical officer's TRIBBLE blocking your view?
hehe they do bounce alot... so pretty.... especially when she runs into combat.
I've been trying to get on there every day... yet can't make a character in order to start testing UGC (and yes I have available character slots)
did u make sure to press the tab create "create content" in the character selection screen? as shown below
