Episode 15 - The Triumph of Tribble: A Hilarious Interview with QA’s Zero and Fark
Spend time with Mark and Brandon as they interview the HILARIOUS duo from STO’s QA department, ZeroniousRex and Farktoid5000! The “Blank of the Week” features amazing STO ship charts created by SpiderMitch, a STO fan and fantastic artist. This week’s news includes new information about the "Design the Next Enterprise" contest which is now underway, information about the Borg and Aegis loot sets, and the mini engineering report dStahl put out this week. Before we end the show, we continue our “Spotlight on the Foundry” and feature two listener missions: chemkarate and chooch99.

To get the missions you are making using The Foundry (Beta) featured on the show, send in the name and ID# of your mission, a brief description, and your @handle to priorityone@thequantumcafe.com. Mark and Brandon will personally test out your mission and give you feedback over the air.

Mark has a call out to all Priority One fans! Visit this thread to submit your ideas that you would like to see implemented in the game. We will make sure that this “wish list” gets passed along to the devs and that they get read aloud on the show.

    Partway in right now.

Grats to Zero. Lovely voice as always.

Fark rocks too and I like his "breaking IP".

Oh... And as a poor grad student, I would totally NOT be creeped out by Zero sending cookies. Just saying. Cookies. Yum.

Obviously, if you guys have followed some of my posts, I've gotten quite carried away doing impressions of actors myself. I can totally relate to Zero's story. I spent fifteen minutes in the car workshopping a bit where Will Friedle and F. Murray Abraham tell a Japanese folktale, playing both parts. The nutty thing is, this actually ties into my studies, so it's a justifiable accentricity but, seriously, why did I go for Will Friedle and F. Murray Abraham?.

And Fark...? Your voice is like a 50/50 James Roday/Ryan Reynolds. I want you on voice too, man.

If I ever had to work 170 hours a week somewhere, I'd want to work with you guys. You're all great.

I had a WONDERFUL time, thanks for having us on, Brad and Mark!

Also, even suggesting I sound like Ryan Reynolds is a huge compliment, so thanks for that too.

    Write that down.

In response to a question about bugs Farktoid said that they comb the forums and that if we see any bugs that we should post about it on the forums.

    What???

So the advice he gives is to post on the forums. Not to file an in game bug report, but to post our bugs on the forums. So... the QA guys still don't see the Bug Reports that we file in game?

Why doesn't Cryptic simply fix whatever the problem is with the bug report system? Why don't they fix it so that they'll actually receive our bug reports? It makes no sense to me to even have the bug report system in game if it doesn't work.

I loved when Farktoid mentioned Moriarity getting loose.

I love that the word "potential" automatically makes him think of Buffy but I especially love Zero's "good cop" routine with him, reminding him he needs to stay on IP. :-D

Wasn't sure where else to go with this without necroing my own thread (how old does it have to be for a necro? This is like a week old) but I just recorded a Patrick Stewart sample bit:

...Yeah, I look like a tired hobo. First blissful night of sleep since (grad) finals was last night...

I generally like the show, but can you guys tone down the editing? I find it frustrating that a guest's answer is full of that clipping sound from cutting pieces out. You guys ask some really good questions, and I would like to hear the full answer to the questions and not just what you feel is necessary for the audience.

This particular show seemed funny too, but due to all the editing, I often felt left out of the joke.

I know you are very meticulous bfelczer, and I don't want to tell you what to do with your show, but as listener this is often a frustration of mine.

Hi guys..clip..clip...awesome..clip..clip..That's it for today. :):p:cool:

This is a great point. None of the answers are EVER cut at all. The clipping sounds you hear are removing the numerous "ummm"s and "uhhh"s :) I always thought you guys would rather have that cut out than listen to them. It's natural for new guests not used to recording a show but I like to make them sound as good as possible.

And here I thought Zero had a bad mic. The cuts are especially obvious with her and part of why I half wondered if she wasn't some computer program Dan Stahl was trying out to punk us. Her voice sounds good. Without non fluencies, it sounds almost too good. Work in the cuts and she sounds like a highly sophisticated text-to-speech program.

I understand that, and if "umm"s and "uhh"s were excessively annoying the "flow" of the show, I would probably edit them out too. I'll say knowing this now does make it more difficult to critique your show. Though I don't think a few 'umm"s and "uhhs" here and there are that bad.;)

It's not just zero either. Sorry to nit-pick, but it can get a little annoying sometimes. That said, I have nothing else negative to say about the show. I really do like it. It's a simple and enjoyable show that catches me up relatively fast. And, with the exception of the cuts, you guys have great quality production. I definitely prefer it to the other shows.

Oh if you had to leave all my umms and ahhs in, the show would be like 3 hours long! I think its always best to take out lil things like that to make the show better over all, sound more professional and that we care and have a passion about it. Which we do!

Fark and I had SO MUCH FUN recording this, as you may be able to tell. ;)

PeregrineFalcon -- we do also check the tickets submitted in-game via /bug. It's just got a higher signal to noise ratio, since not everyone searches for existing issues before submitting their bug. On the foums, people seem more likely to repsond to an existing bug thread and say "Hey, me too!" So we can see at a glance that this one bug is affecting tons of people, versus it appearing like tons of people are experiencing different bugs.

I hope that makes sense. I feel like I started rambling a little.

As for the editing, it's probably for the best. I actually talk a lot like Shatner... pausing for... emphasis. It... helps to make... the point. Uhh, well... hmm, you know.

I've always had trouble to where when I try to search, I get nothing and on some of those things they are seemingly common issues.

    This. All. The. Time.

Maybe add more drop downs or something I mean seems like whenever I do a search even after selecting the mission it's affecting I get no reported bugs listed then I come here and someone has a thread with 40 people saying they've reported it...the /bug system has always seemed heavily flawed. I felt that way as early as beta for Champions and its the same system here with the same problems.

Help us help you help us. Give us better bug reporting and search tools.

    One more to this.

I can't tell you how many times I've tried to search for issues I KNOW are already listed, only to get no search results. I even had a friend file a bug report, then tell me exactly where he filed it and the title he used. I couldn't find anything listed in that category. I wanted to add a "me too" comment to it.

The ingame tools to search existing issues are entirely broken. That's why you have such a high "signal to noise" ratio.

Honestly though, the JIRA search tool that the players see in game leaves A LOT to be desired. On one of my in game bug reports; after I entered and saved it. I went back in to search for it by using the exact same subject - yet, after pasting that in the 'search' field and clicking search, the issue I just entered DIDN'T show up in the search. I tried again 30 minutes later, and nada.

So, I do have to say, IF Cryptic's JIRA system bug search tool actually worked, I'd use it as designed; but it my experience, (from STO closed beta to now); it doesn't, and never has.

Well then perhaps you might want to ask who ever is in charge of the in game bug system to fix whatever the problem is then.

I always search for the same problem before reporting something as a new problem, but lately the search function never shows me anything ever. Since I find it very difficult to believe that I'm consistently finding bugs that no one else has ever encountered (and in several cases I know for a fact that other people have already found these same bugs) then I would like to advance the possibility to you that there's something wrong with the in game bug search function.

Also, if a human actually looked through and responded to bug reports and closed the ones that are old and no longer valid that too might lower the signal to noise ratio.

By specifically asking people to post their bugs on the forums instead of filing an in game bug report it sounds to me like the QA people have basically written the in game bug system off entirely.
