I am running out of toolbar slots and we haven't even gotten all abilities yet (Fleet Admiral).
I have to use the mouse cursor for too many abilities already because the "conveniant" keys (those easily reached without releasing the maneuvering keys) are already in use. Finding the tiny mouse cursor in combat when everything flashes (abilities, own beams, enemy beams) is another story.

I was thinking of fully automated (optional) bridge officers, firing their abilities whenever needed. But i guess the abilities you need the most right now would always be on cooldown then.
Abilities we want to be automatic could be right-clickable (green flashing) like our weapons. They either need an event manager to not fire off without a reason or we get one key for fire all defensive abilities or fire all offensive abilities. Right now it takes quite a while until i am done buffing up my escort for a massive strike. (AP Alpha, AP Omega, THY 3, CRF 3, Tactical Fleet, Emergency Power to Weapons). Those abilities could be unified into one key stroke.

Put your weapon ability icons (for your forward and rear weapons) in a tray besides the first 3. You do not need them in there since you can control your weapons from the three icons to the left of the tray. You can also put the abilities that you only use in sector space (such as transwarp and quantum slipstream) into a fourth tray if you need more space.

You can also right click on the weapon ability icons so they will fire your weapons automatically and all you have to do is pilot the ship.

My max level engineer has 1 or 2 slots free (on 3 rows)
My Rear Admiral Upper Half science has 1 slot free (on 3 rows)

And mind you, that's with sacrificing some abilities and hiding them on buried/hidden bars.

Aside from physically having the space to slot all your powers, it becomes difficult to manage all the powers (for me at least) because there's no spacing or grouping of powers anymore.

Simply not having the weapons or BO power trays disappear when expanding to 3 slots would make a world of difference. (science vessels with subsystem targetting powers, can I get a woop-woop?)

I'm a science VA and have all my powers on my tray and am only using 2/3 bars. I do not have weapon or boff powers on there as they already have their own section in the UI for them

UI scheme 3 lets you access #'s 9 and 10, but you lose the weapon and Boff trays, so you actually lose buttons at RA+ level. Why 9 & 10 are not on all schemes is weird.

And if you are flying an Excel, you have a bunch of extra Transwarps (total of 13, I believe). No way you can make all your powers easily accessible.

I wouldn't put those on my tray. Similar to the mage transports in WoW, I would just open up my powers tab to use them

If you go here: http://www.sto-advanced.com/?p=121 it tells you how to get both 9+10 and your boff powers at once. You'll have to keep hitting a key whenever you enter a space map though (mine is shift-c). Note that in the examples given, you can't just copy and paste it into STO's chatbox, you have to replace the quotation marks, the ones the blog uses and copies aren't recognised by STO so your macro won't work.

    EDIT:
Also, bar 4 is the shift bar (eg you access bar 4 power 1 by pressing shift+1). Not many people seem to know that, it'll give you a whole extra bar.
