When will the Deep Space Science Vessel be brought to VA standards?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I was wondering if we might see the DSSV improved for Vice Admirals -- given more bridge officer and console upgrades, as well as a major boost in Turn Rate (at least to the Luna's TR 10 if not better). Most of all, I would love to be able to purchase the new DSSV with my free ship token once I reach Vice Admiral rank.

I would also appreciate it if I could use my 'Nimbus' ship costume on the new DSSV, please.

Thanks, Devs!
:)

The DSSV is already balance for VA as T5 ship, just like all the other T5's + retrofits. There is no T6 ships, nor T5.5's

It's just that I was hoping that the turn rate would be improved as we advanced higher and higher in the hierarchy.

I hope that adding a Borg or Aegis impulse engine will give the DSSV the turn rate boost that she needs.

Better yet, how about an altogether better Science ship to replace the DSSV?

I hope that a Tier 6 Science ship is on the drawing board at Cryptic and will be approved by CBS. Hopefully it too will accept the Nimbus ship costume (or -- better still -- be a beautiful objet d'art).

Just to clarify, the 'Tier 5.5' ships are no better than the original Tier 5 ships, they are simply another choice. They each have a special ability (cloak, saucer separation and super armor) which comes with a heavy price. (i.e. less hull, lower rank BOFF slots etc.)

Retrofits are T5 ships that sacrifice a Console slot for a special ship combat ability. In all other regards they're equal to any other T5 ship.

They're not going to make a better DSSV because that ship is already T5. The slow turn rate is there for a reason - though many of us assume it should be slightly higher then the current value.

Equal in ability, but they have very different playstyles and stats. Look at the defiant for instance. What T5 ship does that replace?! It is closest to the BoP which isn't even a fed ship. It has a much higher turn rate than either of the other escorts, yet much less hull. It has a different BOFF layout as well as different console slots. The refits are neither better nor worse than other T5 ships - but they are very different.

With luck, perhaps the Borg and/or Aegis impulse engine will offer a modifier to Turn Rate which will make it commensurate with the Luna.

Of course, an all-new Tier 6 Science ship will all the bells and whistles would be even better.

Of course, all the luna class ships will also equip Borg/Aegis equipment and they DSSV will be back where it started!!

Do you really wan't T6 ships though? It will mean that we will either get a very limited selection of T6 ships or we will have all the T5 ships boosted, but what would the point of that be? I hope we get more ships - but not ones that make our current ships redundant.

I'm certainly not advocating making the Tier 5 ships redundant or obsolete, but I do believe that Admiral (and General) - level characters should have access to the best, cutting edge ships available. Ships which boast *the* best Turn Rates. Even high-level Cruisers should get boosts in Turn Rate (unless the cruiser is so much larger and unwieldier than its predecessor).

Each tier should give us more Bridge Officer and console slots, as well as faster engines with better turn rates.

If people are worried about how such improvements will effect PvP, then I'm sure that the Devs can balance things out so that the improvements to PvE shipping will not impede things on the PvP side.

    I don't agree Rand_Altair

I think the top ships don't need to be "the best", they should be useful, and a skilled player should be able to win in any of them.

Edit: Whats this gender thing in your sig?

Edit: Whats this gender thing in your sig?
It has been my experience that it is more difficult to get female bridge officers than it is to get male ones. My character and ship concepts support an all-female (or mostly female, in the case of NPCs) crew.

It has been my hope for quite awhile that a mechanic would be introduced into STO which would allow players to choose the gender of their bridge officers when they first report for duty.

Apparently, I am not the only person who has expressed a wish for an all-female crew.

O, I had the opposite experience. Almost my whole crew is women. I thought it was a bug early on. Not sure if the devs ever tried to fix it.

From what I can tell its fairly random. With the one exception being generic aliens. You can only get female aliens as common. Uncommon or better are, and have always been, male. Its an old glitch thats never been fixed.

Who told you the Tactical retrofit has less hull than the other escorts? All three have 30,000 base hull strength. They have the same number of Boff slots. The difference is the extra ensign. (Tactical, Fleet-Engineering, Advanced-Science) The Tactical gains a cloak and slightly faster turn rate, and the other two gain console slots corresponding to their ensigns. But they all definitely have the same hull strength.

That really doesn't change his point. All the newer ships (Refits and the new Klingon ships) gain a unique power, but at the cost of something else. In most cases its a console slot. In others its something else. Either way, they stay balanced. You give something to get something.

Oh, I'm agreeing with you. Just didn't want people going around thinking that the Defiant wasn't a tough little ship anymore :D
